i have a simple question @wowdrop, if it costs €14.99 to open the playstation mystery box, but the cheapest item you can get is also worth €14.99, how do you make money?
actually, you are lossing money every time someone gets an item worth more than €14.99.
i'm getting "too good to be true" vibes here.
When comes to mystery boxes, companies which specialize on them usually buy merchandise in bulk, that merchandise is generally cheaper than retail price because it is composed by items which have gone from refurbishing, have been returned by Amazon clients or have minimum aesthetical details.
So those companies buy literal containers of merchandise which is difficult to sell in first world countries, but have value in developed countries. Depending on the company, packages are opened and reassembled to increase profits for the company (since the company knows the value of the content, so they can seel it for a higher price), or they could sell it still closed (as received from Amazon /eBay / Target /AliExpress, in that case the company just profit dividing the cost of the container by the number of packages and add their profit margin to each package, usually the biggest and heavier the package is, the higher the price for the person willing to pay it.
Some companies also go for the auction business model, in which they set up an initial price (in which they are already winning a minimum), give information of the package (dimensions, weight, country of origin, date) and allow users to bid for it.
did you visit the website? i'm pretty sure this isn't one of those companies you are talking about.
because according to their FAQ "All products are sourced directly from brands or their official resellers" "Yes, every prize is brand new and factory sealed. We do not offer refurbished or used items."
anyway, i went ahead and created an account to see how it works thinking it would be something like hypedrop and similar websites, and to my surprise they are not, they don't even accept crypto, only payments with cards in EURO.
i wonder why they are even here, where we all use crypto to gamble.
