People nowadays tend to be easier tempted by materialistic things. Wherher it’s the brand new phone, or a brand new line of clothes, a new coffee shop or restaurant to try. Everyone wants to buy it immediately but the question is, can they really afford it? Are they living above their means? Do the younger generation have their priorities in reverse by succumbing into luxuries?
What I've noticed from the people around me is that they actually can't afford it, because their income is still below, or even far below, the standard. Yet, they aren't reluctant to take on debt or use PayLater, which has become a major problem in my country. Almost all financial platforms here offer paylater and in my opinion this is worse than credit cards because the limits offered are very high which will trap people into continuing to go into debt until they are unable to pay it because they are tempted buy items that for some people are cheap but for paylater users are clearly luxury items.

In every generation there's good and bad apple, as for current younger generation, you may think all of them are spending lavishly without control but it's just loud minority if i'm being honest. I've seen many that invested their money, and don't really give a damn about luxurious things. A brand new phone isn't really luxury in my opinion, with minimum wage you can earn it easily. I'd only call people living recklessly when they got into a debt just to live lavishly and that's where it becomes problem.

That’s a really good point. Social media plays a big role in this too, people constantly compare their lives with others and feel pressured to keep up. It’s not always about wanting the product, but wanting the lifestyle it represents. Sadly, many end up in debt or financial stress just to look successful instead of actually building stability.

These days, many people have so imposed fake ideals on themselves that they simply follow them without even understanding why they're doing it. Instagram shows girls in swimsuits, iPhones, and yachts. And every girl wants the same. Parties and alcohol, being independent—I can understand all of that, but I like the idea that many girls who should be proud of their cooking skills and their ability to be interesting are being forced to accept these ideals of a girl in a picture who doesn't care about anyone and is only interested in herself. Selfishness is imposed by social media. And this leads to the degradation of society.

The younger generations are coping their celebrities and influencers on how to live a luxury lifestyle. The people that has billions in their accounts are not are into luxury buying buying like those that have nothing and want to impress the people seeing them. Some people will not listen and will not use their money well especially investing in things that will be profitable for them. The younger generations are in a big dilemma if they don't focus on things that will help their lives and become a better people in the society. After buying and those luxury shoes, dresses, cars and in a big multiple houses, what will be their fate when they die? This world is vanity and Solomon that enjoyed luxury with thousands of women hanging around him, he saw everything and enjoyed life but still express his thoughts that Vanity is vanity.

Man, I don't know, life is short, if one wants to indulge in luxuries, let 'em be, sure you shouldn't be enjoying luxuries on cc/loans but as long as you can afford 'em, who cares? There is specie of people who save/invest for imaginary future while being frugal in present, I ain't fan of 'em; sure I don't say forsake future planning altogether but have balanced attitude, enjoy luxuries and save/invest as well.
You are right, but you should be capable to afford those luxuries first before you start getting them...a lot of people are not really where they want to be financially but they spend more than what they make just for little pleasures...to live life to the fullest you must take things one step at a time, live within your means and gradually grow from there...the fact that life is short doesn't mean you shouldn't plan

A person will try to do what he thinks is most necessary according to his needs. But in the current social situation, due to prestige issues, he becomes interested in buying even the things he does not need very much. But there are definitely some complications in this type of purchase, especially for people with low income. I think that first the basic needs should be met and then it is better to indulge in luxury. Otherwise, due to this ignorance, he may have to go through various financial complications in the future.

There is a reason to live a simple life even if you are a billionaire, and there is a reason why you should look richer than you are if you are not that rich. The real rich people do not have to dress to impress, their bank accounts does that for them, they are super rich, and could go to any restaurant and order anything they want and leave a %100+ tip if they want to. That's the real rich people, because their money talks for them, so they do not have to wear super expensive clothing.
However, a guy who rents an expensive sports car, for the day, which he can barely afford to have just for even one day, is doing that because when he goes for a business meeting, he may want to look richer, so that the other side would trust him, compared to shitbox he drives, which would make them doubt him.

Don't you have a dreamt car in your mind and a perfect home to spend your life but the question is can your afford it? There is difference between selttling for what you can afford and liking something. Don't you think everyone has the right to like something, because they can't afford to have it doesn't mean they must not want to have it, the only way I can consider it been appropriate is when you want to have something you can't afford at that particular time. We need to set boundaries and the things we do, it's not a must that we need to have what we want. In fact, there is a difference between need and want. Priority have to be given to the things we need and what should come later but then again, even if we need something, it has to be what we can afford. There is nothing bad in needing anything you desire but can you afford that thing, if you can't afford it then you don't need that things, it's a want.

It is better you look poor any many people think you are an average person that may never have much to offer than when the society see you like someone that have wealth but in reality, have nothing much to what people are comparing him with. Wealth is something that will be visible when you have it but you can also camouflage it like someone that have sufficient riches. Humbling ourselves is the only way we can help ourselves to grow and become a better person in the society. Nothing much nothing less!

A rich person can, of course, show off their wealth without buying expensive clothes or expensive cars. Many wealthy people don't do this, but I've seen some wealthy people drive subpar cars, but they travel to the world's best destinations, eat at the best restaurants, and treat the staff well and tip them well. As you said, those who try to impress people with luxury don't exactly pay attention to someone who rents a car or tries to pretend to be rich, and people understand that.

People are too confident buying anything they want for free and they don’t receive any consequences for it. There would be a time for sure where people will start to get jailed for abusing the system.

Paylater features have been abused too much. People are too confident buying anything they want for free and they don’t receive any consequences for it. There would be a time for sure where people will start to get jailed for abusing the system. In my opinion, luxury goods don't kill directly, but the culture of showing off and the social pressures it creates can be a social poison, especially for children who are psychologically and economically immature. My country is in a state of emergency due to online loans, most of which are illegal. I'm also concerned to see the increasing number of children committing crimes, including murdering their parents, extortion, bullying, and even murdering their peers (elementary school children). Luxury goods are often not purchased out of functional necessity, but as a symbol of social status (a marketing strategy of Veblen Goods, where demand increases precisely because of high prices). Children and adolescents who view luxury goods as a social identity begin to judge themselves and others based on what they have, not who they are. Social media distorts consumerism and high living standards as the norm, creating pressure for many to pursue social status instantly. Finally, the phenomenon of consumer pressure becoming the basis for crime, and the expression of social frustration manifested through crime. While my country's traditional culture is collective, upholding the values of family and togetherness, the digital era has given rise to a modern culture of individualism, where personal existence is prioritized over contributing to the community. The culture of flexing on social media contradicts the values of acceptance, mutual cooperation, and simplicity that were once deeply rooted.

People these days do not matter anymore on the thought that if they can afford it or not, but as long as they can ride with the trend and taste luxury, that’s already what matters to them. And for that, I think having this social media is a big influence to them, that they end up pretending and faking their real status in life.
Luxury definitely kills if people prefer this kind of mindset. That’s why it’s not surprising anymore why a lot of people stay poor despite how they show off on their social media accounts.
I have no problem with these and so should you, because they are not using my money or your money to buy whatever they want, the only way any of these can feel so wrong to me is doing crime jobs and still have the gut to show it off. There are many bursted crime lords that exposed themselves because of their lavish lifestyle, how can you live a crime life and make money off it only to come on social media and start impressing others? The nerve is uncanny to me. People work hard for their money, and if they feel like buying expensive things is their way of enjoying their sweat what is my business in that? The will still resume work on the following monday morning, it is their body, sweat and business, not mine.

One can survive even without having experienced it. However, since we also want to experience comfort, pleasure and convenience, we aim of having luxury in life. But we should work on it first and save on it first in order to afford them without taking a loan or compromising other expenses just to achieve luxury in life. Yes, life is short, but that does not mean we should target living in luxury. If we can live a simple life, much better, but if we can afford also some luxuries, maybe for self-satisfaction, that could also contribute for a healthy lifestyle.

Almost all financial platforms here offer paylater and in my opinion this is worse than credit cards because the limits offered are very high which will trap people into continuing to go into debt until they are unable to pay it because they are tempted buy items that for some people are cheap but for paylater users are clearly luxury items. Similar cases around me, people are using cc/loans/pay later schemes to purchase things AND they pay off these credits by another credit scheme and eventually get drowned by interest rates. When I hear their horror stories, I find myself glad that I have kept myself away from cc/loans, although I use pay later on ecom sites, but I figure I should be cautious with 'em too.
