Almost all world governments don't give two shits about the people that voted them into power and only care about themselves which is why they wouldn't really care about regulating food prices in any manner whatsoever.

The whole idea itself is very difficult to execute on a global scale thanks to various factors such as price differences etc.

The government doesn't care because they have stolen funds that they keep for themselves and their family members they are not affected in the high cost of food prices they may pay little attention when people complain. Regulating the good prices would be a better idea if they cared but how will that work when almost everything is imported in my country and the import duties are on the high side if the government start regulating prices they will have to reduce the amount they charge all the importers.

You are rising a deeper issue of rising prices in our country. When leaders are unaware of the struggles of citizens, they don’t think about their improvement or better lifestyle. Its a reality that whoever get money he forgets his reality who he was in past years. Price regulation looks very good but just to listen as Government has to import products which are expensive in the market and the other burden is the heavier taxes on these products. By adding these taxes and the produtcs price, the price at final we get looks very expensive. We blame over government for that but a thing which is expensive in global marker will automatically has a high price to import. All these things can be imporved with comprehensive strategies. We have to invest in our own country in agricluture, offer subsidies and reduce dependency. If government hasn’t took any initiative, the prices will further increase and it will be uncontrolled.

Regulating the price of food items is not enough to reduce inflation, because when we talk about inflation in a country, is something that affects the People's cost of living, when there is a hike or sudden increase in goods and services and not necessarily only food items.

When there is inflation in a country or any given area, sometimes survival can be difficult, because your income might no longer be enough to Carter for your needs, and in that case, you have to leave even below your income in other to survive, and when your income is not huge, you will be forced to feed from hand to mouth.

There are certain things that can cause inflation in a country or in any given are, for instance, when the demand of a particular product is higher than the supply, this can cause inflation, and more also a country's monetary policy can equally cause inflation etc.

Inflation can have negative effect on the citizens of a country, as it leads to high cost of living, so therefore all necessary measures should be taken to reduce it, if it cannot be totally eliminated.

Politicians, ironically, do not know what is actually going on in their countries. Their kids are rich. Their kids are comfortable. They are out and traveling. They do not have to deal with government's slow processes because money is king and it gets prioritized everywhere. They eat good food, they live in big houses. They are ought to be humbled soon.

The politicians knows everything that is going on in their different countries they just act like they don't know because they are comfortable likewise their kids who do not stress to get whatever they want delivered to them they can't feel concerned when it's not touching them. Yes their kids have access to eat good food, they go to the best schools, drink good water they surely do not care to know what's happening to the people who voted them into power.

Instead of regulating the price of food government should rather invest in the economy of the country.

On the contrary, what the government should do is facilitate the private sector so that it is the private sector, through its own initiative, that produces food in free competition, simply ensuring that there is no abuse or fraud. Government investment is extremely inefficient (although there are some exceptions).

There is no more efficient way to lower product prices than by letting producers compete with each other rather than crushing them with regulations and taxes.

Needless to say that these arguments are based on the age old doctrines of the classical and Keynesian Economists. Which fo you think is better, should the government regulate food prices in order to fight inflation or raise economic growth factors?
Never let governments be involved with the people. If governments can decide on the prices or increases, they will want something more, and more and more. Same goes for taxes, even a 0.1% tax that is "temporary", will become a 20% permanent one in a decade if you let them. That is what French know very well and riot whenever there is a tiny little thing, not that the tiny thing matters, they do not care about that exactly, what they care about is government getting involved.

Like retirement age can be increased just 1 year, and if they do that and let them then next time it will be 2 more years and 2 more and suddenly you are retiring 8 years later than you normally would. There isn't really anything can be done about it and shouldn't be doing this at all.

Actually, price control is not the solution to the main problem but often has the opposite effect. I saw as a child that when the government suddenly fixes the price of some products, it becomes difficult to get that product in the market. Traders reduce supply for fear of losses and the common people are forced to buy it at a higher price. The middlemen mainly benefit here they stock the product. And later sell it at a higher price.

I think that investment in the economy does not mean just pouring money long term development in production, infrastructure employment and technology. When these increase supply also increases competition is created in the market and then prices naturally stabilize.

Food, basic human necessity, must be affordable especially by the poorer citizens & have nots. When the prices of ood spiral, survival becomes difficult and the standard of living reduces. Price control can make the market prices of goods stable even during crisis, such as, drought or wars, preventing inflation and protecting citizens from hunger. Supporters say that government intervention is essential and not just for economic reasons, but for social stability & human dignity. But, critics argue that instead of distorting the market, government should tackle inflation through better farming policies, investment in food production, improved infrastructure and so on. They see regulating prices as treating the symptoms, and not the disease itself.

Needless to say that these arguments are based on the age old doctrines of the classical and Keynesian Economists. Which fo you think is better, should the government regulate food prices in order to fight inflation or raise economic growth factors?

There's a lot of things that needs to be regulated asides food prices, talking about Nigeria specifically the government seems really confused, I honestly don't know what their issue is. The president hasn't solved one problem since he got into power, he only makes everything worse. Instead of focusing on how to grow the economy he's trying to implement taxation of over 25 percent for every citizen, tell me how this makes sense. The major problem is that economy food prices is secondary

should the government regulate food prices in order to fight inflation or raise economic growth factors?
The government can regulate food prices to suppress inflation, even though it seems difficult, if the government does this it can certainly improve economic growth nationally and internationally.

But it is difficult, the government not only regulates the prices of food, fertilizer, vitamin medicines, oil, seeds and everything related to agricultural and food needs, it must be regulated as cheaply as possible, is that even possible......!
I don't think the mafia is playing in order to make high profits, if the mafia is within the government of course the country's economy will be destroyed, only certain individuals will be spared from inflation, the small people will scream at high prices, so it is difficult to regulate food prices, if the mafiafertilizer is not eradicated.

Needless to say that these arguments are based on the age old doctrines of the classical and Keynesian Economists. Which fo you think is better, should the government regulate food prices in order to fight inflation or raise economic growth factors?

Where there is no government regulations of the prices of food, citizens take advantage of such situations to exploit their counterparts who are not informed about the state of prices of such goods. They form associations and have a common goal which makes it hard for citizens to see the lapses in this, to know that they’re been taken advantage of because of their naiveness and government inability to regulate prices of goods.

Raising economic growth factor is another important aspect for the government to do in order to tackle inflation. The two points you’ve mentioned are both important for the government to tackle inflation. Inflation is an important aspect of economy that when not handled well will affect the lifestyle of the masses into showing disarray in the government. Regulation of prices and improved economic factor are both important to tackle inflation.

If you control the food prices, then the farmers and manufacturers will go out of business, which results in less disruption of supply and demand of food prices that will increase the food prices this time not due to inflation but due to the high demand and less availability, do you think this is the solution?

Governments should not intervene in this matter or they should cover the loss made by the farmers that again goes from the tax money and economy will struggle.
How do you think governments are planning controlling retail prices? Because your idea of solution seems weird.

Governments have tools to control food prices. It doesn't happen by setting price caps that farmers or retailers can ask. It already is happening by subsiding farmers and logistics, cutting taxes on food and agriculture etc.

There are honestly many ways to do it that are all boosting economy.

I am not proposing a solution here, rather explaining what will happen if government set the cap values on the food items. It will just create opposite result of what they expected because farming is already not profitable and if governments make the life of farmers harder they simply chose not to farm that will create lesser supply and increase in demand so disrupting the price cycle.

And yeah the right way is to subsidizing the farmers in possible ways which means government gives them a hand to bear their burden.

It is not simple. If you intervene in food prices, farmers will find it difficult to add value to their agricultural products in order to make a profit. You also have to consider the costs of farming, from fertilizers and pesticides to other necessities, which are expensive in order to maximize yields. So, it is tantamount to killing agriculture when inflation is high but food prices are suppressed, unless the government provides subsidies to farmers, which means the government must spend more money to pay the percentage of subsidies to farmers so that they can continue to plant.

Market prices depend on supply and demand, and inflation can be an additional trigger. When a product is in high demand, it will lead to scarcity, which will result in a shortage of products and possibly an increase in prices. The government must have a strategy to ensure that supply is always secure so that the needs of the community can be met.

I think that it depends on the country. Which one is the problem, rent or food? In Europe, I think that rent is a problem because rent prices are too high and half of your salary goes into rent. Austria has the best rent system as I know, their rent prices are regulated and you can easily pay a rent. Regulating food prices is good too. I support moderate regulation because you can't really let the capitalism work on its own because when rich people get richer, they make poor more poorer and create a very huge gap and unfair conditions. Too much regulation or subsidization isn't good because it's getting abused too but moderate subsidization and regulations sound fair to my mind.

Instead of regulating the price of food government should rather invest in the economy of the country. Because inflation is the reason why the prices of food and services increases and until the problem of inflation is tackled food prices will not be solved.good economic policies will lead to a stable economy were there is stability in the Prices of goods and services. Government can't be talking about regulating the price of food in the market when they have not done enough in terms of investing into the economy.good economic management will lead to a stable price of food and services in the market.
The government's main focus should be on the economy because when the government pays attention to the economy, the prices of food items and everything else will automatically come down. But at the same time, it is also true that people are suffering a lot right now because we all know that food is one of the basic needs of people, so if they cannot fulfill their basic needs, then in fact, the economy will not matter much in the future whether it is good or bad. So I think that the government should definitely pay attention to the economy, but at present, the prices of food items need to be brought to a tolerable level, because when the government fixes its economy, it will be seen that not only food items but also other basic needs such as housing, education, medical care, clothing, and everything else will come down to a lower level. Through this, the situation in the country will come to a balance because on the one hand, investment in the economy will increase, production will increase, and on the other hand, the government will help the people by temporarily controlling the prices of food items if necessary.

Your question is very important. Thinking about controlling food prices does not mean that the government will stop anyone from "making profits", so leaving its price completely to the market will not work, as it will go beyond the purchasing power of the common man, which is creating an economic and social crisis. In our society, a few profit-hungry big businessmen control the supply of food, as a result of which they increase the price as they wish. When food prices increase, inflation increases, so the government should always operate mobile teams to monitor.
Govt intervention doesn't mean to deploy the profit of farmers. But it means to take action against those who believe on hoarding and pick all stock from the market just aim to increase in prices and gain their highest profit. Here for the middle class, or lower middle class govt should take action for the availability of food on reasonable  prices. Corruption and hoarding are the main factors that affect consumer purchasing powers and create inflation Prices should not fixed because it discouraged the supply competition. So prices should be upto some extent flexible so that margin of competition in bringing good products in the market should be sustain. But too high prices, here role of govt is essential. Govt should set strict measure against those who hoarding and corruption. While on the other side they should give subsidies to the farmers to maintain the balance in the economy.

Regulation of food prices in the way you describe simply doesn't work. "Food must be affordable" is a bit silly because there are all types of food and you'll find in most country that the staple, like rice or wheat, is actually very affordable but would make for a very diet lacking variety of necessary ingredients. What is the threshold we go with anyway? Should a family have 10 or 15 kids and the government be expected to accommodate the lack of birth control being used and parents who don't have the means to support that many children? It's a dangerous argument and you end up in a place dangerously close to communism which eventually fails

I guess it's impossible to beat inflation since it's already part of the country's economy. Though we can make it partly reduced, but still inflation is there and people would see it as a daily barrier when buying basic goods and services. Since we can't fight with it, maybe it's a good thing to grow your own food at home and encourage backyard planting and farming, in which you could limit your expenses and buy only those aren't available at home. That's why its more encouraged to have a bigger space at the back of your home so you can grow your own food sources for free.
