It's a matter of responsability to take the job seriously, without going for distractions like gambling meanwhile. I share the same view as you on this matter and I think gambling should never be mixed with worktime. We are being paid to do an excellent job by a customer or employer, and it would really bother them if the quality of our work decreased due to gambling. I think there is a lack of consideration for who the person is woking for when he insists in gambling during worktime.

The thing is, our work is our livelihood, our professionalism is at stake if we don't do our jobs properly. If for some reason we're at work and we see someone playing online, we obviously think that they don't care about their job, they don't take it seriously, and much less do it properly. That's what I would think. So we can't act like that; that's what free time is for. I think there's time for everything.

I would not suggest doing anything else when working. Even if the work you do seems to run on autopilot from your brain, dont get involved in something like sports betting in parallel, it can be devastating in case something goes wrong.

Indeed if you lose money you will feel bad then the mood to work will go down and you will feel irritated when more work suddenly piles up on you.

You might win something and that will elate your mood so much that again you will not feel like working. Either way it is bad and not recommended.

There’s some work has breaks or idle time like main when I’m already uploading and transferring files on company hard drive which take some time to finish while I don’t other things to do.

However, I don’t intend to gamble at since I don’t want to risk my job over just a piece of entertainment that I can do at home during my free time.

All I’m just saying is it can happened due to idle time at work and user has some urge to gamble.

I mainly gamble on weekends. But there are some exemptions. Since there are UCL games today, I might have to place some bets today. Now, the problem with gambling while working is that it could change your mood.  You could be too excited about a win, and it will lead to a mistake. Losses could also lead to anger, which could lead to misbehavior. Gambling is best done when you want to get entertained and not when is actively working.

Just sharing my experience lately. I’ve been really busy with some business problems I needed to fix, but at the same time, I was also betting on sports .. kinda multitasking while trying to manage both.

At first, I thought it was fine. I was watching games, checking scores, then going back to work. But honestly, it didn’t go well. I noticed I couldn’t focus properly on the bigger issues I needed to solve. And when my bets started losing, my mood just dropped even more. Instead of relaxing, it added stress on top of everything.

I'll tell you about my personal experience. I work in IT, mainly in development. Sometimes, when working on complex tasks, I experience a kind of “mental block,” and I need to “distract my brain” somehow. There are many options, of course, from simply lying on the beach and doing nothing to... well, let's say placing bets
 
For example, I chose the following options:
- either switch to another task with completely different logic and goals
- or play chess online
This approach allows you to remove the block on a specific task, relax your brain, but not turn it into “cotton wool”
In my opinion, betting will not relax the brain, but will strongly draw it into the direction of betting, expectations of winning, disappointment from losing, etc., i.e., it can be more destructive than helpful. But that's just my personal opinion.

I don't want to mess up and try to do that on my duty time. I'm okay doing it outside my duty so that there won't be any consequences at all.
So aside from losing money, I won't put my job at risk by doing that because I also respect the company that's feeding me and my family.

Humans tend to be more productive when they’re giving their 100% concentration to something, so even if they lose the slightest bit of concentration, some just end up messing things up big time. Gambling itself is also something that requires somewhat of a concentration and mental energy, so doing this under work pressure wouldn’t produce much of a positive result, so yeah I agree with all you’ve just said.

I agree with what you said. It's possible that those addicted to gambling can't control themselves and gamble at inappropriate times. I believe that's a personal right, and the consequences must be accepted. However, I would suggest that it's best to only gamble at the right times.

I think there are people who gamble at thesame time handle different activitie and still be productive in what they do. But some people can't do both. As for me I like to settle one activity before embarking on another. For example if I have serious work to handle, I will make sure I settle it before gambling. Because doing both may cause dippresion to me when I am losing.

I agree with you, I have witnessed all these things and have slightly had my experience too in regards, that's why I find it difficult to gamble when I'm supposed to be at work or during a periods that I'm very engaged  in business activities. If I bet during those time and it doesn't go well, it will likely spoil my mood and make me unhappy. I just prefer peace of mind over pressure, so I normally play when it's best time to do so.

Your working time is certainly for your job, and you should dedicate your time and effort to your work. If you sneak gambling activities into your working hours, it actually shows that your performance is not good. But it all depends on an individual's circumstances. Especially, different types of jobs certainly have different ways of treating their employees.

whoever that chooses to gamble during working hours don't actually no what they are doing and they don't value the job they are doing because if they do , they won't make the mistake of gambling during working hours. Gambling during working hours is a sign of gambling addiction and this can cause them there job.

Gambling is best done at your leisure time  when you're not doing anything because that's your free time and not at the middle of something important or on your way to an important place. This is because you will not be able  to make the right decisions and enjoy the fun since your mind is not settled but in a rush.

I have played a lot of times but only in times where most of the work has been already completed and I didn't need much focus to attend work matters. I never won anything to begin with every time I played at my office as my colleagues were always distracting me with their jokes they made every single minute, and yes we were a great team as I am not there anymore. I tried to focus on poker while playing at work but all that laughter made me confused and I kept making bad decisions which ultimately led me to losing money always.

What I need to have in my mind before gambling while working is that I do it to have relaxation while doing my work so I should accept any result.

What about people who constantly go out to have a smoke? What about moments when I need to visit restroom? And finally when you are at work, but has no work to do (for example waiting when other employees do their job so you finally can start doing yours) and cant go home. You say that "your working time is for your job", but people dont work without pauses whole working day. Right now there are 30 minutes left for me to work, I have done all tasks, and while waiting for new (I think I wont get any today), I read forum and write this post. I could have opened casino page and start slowly playing.

I don't agree with gambling while you are working because you risk doing your job badly and also betting badly.
There may be times during the day when you have little work to do or your work for the day is finished and you could gamble a little. But I ask is it really necessary?
Gambling should be seen as a pastime a form of entertainment where you put in a few pounds that you would otherwise have spent on a few beers. So, for me, if you feel like gambling while you are working, you are starting to have a problem.

I have never experienced gambling while I was working but I did gamble when I was on office but I did it during a break. I do gamble while doing a task as part of my job at home but it does not affect my mood because I can control my focus and my mood. What I usually do is that I do not watch the game I play when I play it while working, or in other word is that I listened to the music of the game only while I was doing other things in my laptop. Play the game automatically (usually slots) then focus on what I do (work), check the game few times only until the automatic spins stopped.

People do all sorts of activities during their work, gambling is not even that ridiculous as some people here claim. If you have a perceptive eye, you will easily notice that some people are working while under the influence of alcohol, others under narcotics and even others under illegal drugs. If they can hide it well, some people are going to do it and they are doing it. In an utopian world the workplace would be very efficient and engaging, so there would be no need to engage in any risky behaviors or side activities and people would not do it. But we do not live in such a world, so things are going to depend on situations. For example, there are some shitty workplaces like night guard, where they just watch TV all night long and don't even have regular scheduled patrolling. Whether the guard watches TV or places some bets, is there really a big difference? There isn't. People that get too focused on such activities tend to behave the same way regardless of activity, so if you easily zoom out into watching TV the same will happen with gambling. There is no added risk when interchanging these activities.

However, the same can't be said with those that are not engaging in any such behavior. If a person is not doing something like that already, they absolutely should not start in any case.
