From the experience of few people that I have witnessed, not matter how careful they are, gambling always messes up their day, I had a colleague at my formal work place some years back, this guy always leaves his duty post to go and gamble and if I don't cover up for him when ever be leaves, he will definitely have issue with the supervisor. Someone also got sacked from their job because of gambling. If someone is gambling and also working, one of those activities will always take more of their attention and if it's gambling that is taking more of their focus, they will definitely have a problem with their job.  Personally, I would rather stay away from gambling for days or weeks instead of gambling while at my work place.

During works hours there should be some safety rules if you are gambling when are supposed to be working you can make some mistake that can even make you to even regret it, your attention can be in the games you play while you forget about things that you should be doing in a place of work, you may not be concentrating too well and when you are focused it's possible that some danger and damages may occur which may lead to been sacked, just as the scripture says that there is time for everything a time for work should be a time for work then when gambling time comes too we can gamble.

But for a gambler who is really addicted to gambling, I don't think there is anything difficult for them because they will find a way to just do what they like to do, especially if the addiction is already there in their personality as an individual gambler.

It could be the classic scenario of someone dealing with much hardship in their life and choosing gambling to be their escape from reality, it does not necessarily means that person is addicted to gambling.
I have seen people in very similar situations and yet they have found time for themselves to partake in hoobies which have nothing to do with gambling, like drawing, reading and playing video games.

In the end, we all are human beings and we have activities outside gambling which we like to partake in, and even if we are in very difficult situations, we will find time to do them.

If you have free time during working hours, like when you’re sitting and waiting for something, you might allow yourself some gambling, since it won’t take time away from anything important. In that case, it can simply fill empty space and help you cope with boredom while waiting. But if you have important tasks to complete, you need to set your priorities correctly and focus on what must be done. Otherwise, you risk losing your job as a stable and consistent source of income.
