I have never heared about tonkeeper, don't know if it's a popular (or even trustworthy) wallet... But a lot of (HD) wallet implementations work with seed phrases...

A seed phrase can be used to derive a master private key, and using a derivation path, private keys can be derived from said master private key... So even if you wallet doesn't show individual private keys, it should be possible to calculate them using the seed phrase... Now, in case of tonkeeper, i have no idear if this is how they work, since this is the first time i have heared about this wallet... Maybe others have seen this wallet in the past and will chip in?

tonkeeper has no private key option. you will only get 24 words Recovery Phrase. the recovery phrase is same like Private key. Private key is usually a 64 character hexadecimal string but Recovery Phrase is a set of 12, 18 or 24 words which when fully matched unlock the wallet. Private key and Recovery Phrase work the same to protect the wallet. So even if you don't have a private key, there is no problem, you can always access your wallet with Recovery Phrase. so don't worry about private key, just keep secure your Recovery Phrase and don't share it to anyone.

but it's not written anywhere how to decrypt the tonkeeper's seed phrase, which will decrypt into a private key.
there are no instructions on the official website. it doesn't say what method to use to decrypt, and even if there was a method, there wouldn't be anything to compare the decrypted key with to understand "is it the right one?"

Majority of the Ton wallets available such as Tonkeeper or Tonhub do not use a private key, they use a 24 word seed phrase instead which works as good as a private key. As long as you keep the seed phrase well, you have nothing to worry about and the private key is not needed. There are other wallets out there that uses private keys so you can chose from a variety of them if you are really concerned about it.

Seed phrase exist in 15 and 21 words as well, the 12 and 24 are just common among wallets.

The seed/recovery phrase and private keys doesn't work the same and doesn't protect the wallet. With recovery phrase, you can generate plenty of wallet address with their respective private keys which can be use to sign a transaction, it's the wallet that is used to store and manage the private keys.

I'm not sure what OP want to use private keys from Tonkeeper because the feature doesn't exist to see a private keys but with the recovery phrase, you can manage different wallet address. I haven't seen any software wallet that can reveal your private keys specifically for Ton wallet.

I've never heard of the Tonkeeper wallet. Is it open source?

The 12/24-word seedphrase is the ultimate backup wallet; it performs the cryptographic function to restore all private keys associated with the wallet.

However, if you're really concerned about discovering individual WIF private keys, you can import your wallet into Electrum (available only for Bitcoin) and there you'll be able to verify or export private keys. Keep in mind, however, that your computer may be insecure, in this case, it's best to run Electrum with the privacy-focused TailsOS operating system, it can be installed and used on a USB flash drive.

That is because of the designs made for their users to make it simpler, easier to use, and more secure. Most of the time, private keys are stolen through screenshots and mistakenly copied. To hide from the main network for security purposes, they give you the master seed, which can work the same as the private key for restoring your wallet. So, yeah, it's normal, not a big deal. If you want the private key, then you have to go through a long process, so it's better to use those seed phrases.

……….

Tonkeeper is one of the official wallets recommended by the TON project for accessing and using the TON network, if you check their site : https://ton.org you will find it there. I used to have it but not anymore..I still have some dust TON and its backup though.
Users of the Tonkeeper wallet can’t deposit Bitcoin since it doesn’t support it, importing on Electrum would not be necessary either..
The wallet only works with the TON network, and the main token officially supported there is USDT, so only TON and USDT can be used in the app (that was then at its early launch h) . I’m not sure if that has changed now.

I think, Tonkeeper don't have private key. I actually use Tonkeeper (extension chrome) and you need to back up 24 word seed phrase. Because if you need use again wallet, you need to fill seed phrase. That's simple dude.

Their sub-repo[*] contains several projects which are being worked on by different contributors. Only the web-based wallet is open source, according to their claims. This means we can confirm that they are open source only for the GUI (frontend). I can't confirm other components, especially the signing engine for all OS wallet's supported.

Tonkeeper is based on BIP‑39, so technically you can derive the private key from the 24 words seed phrase and mostly ton wallets including tonkeeper or related others are also seed phrase based, which means you cannot open the wallet directly using the private key (derived from). That’s the only problem, and it’s still okay that it is a non-custodial wallet, you have full control over it.

I have never heared about tonkeeper, don't know if it's a popular (or even trustworthy) wallet... But a lot of (HD) wallet implementations work with seed phrases...

Now, in case of tonkeeper, i have no idear if this is how they work, since this is the first time i have heared about this wallet... Maybe others have seen this wallet in the past and will chip in?
It is a non-custodial HD wallet, which now only works with seed phrases (UI built that way), though it a trustworthy to this date, never heard any scam news associated with it.

Afaik, these wallets and ton coin were not very popular at that time way back then, later after fragment.com was launched, it helped the blockchain gain a boost and earn some popularity in the crypto market, what that site actually does is allow people to literally buy and sell telegram usernames (marketplace) thru it. Then after integration with telegram so many mini play to earn games, airdrops, and mini such other apps were launched through telegram (epecially Hamster Combat......) players could receive their airdrops in their ton wallets within telegram.

Around 120 million players got airdropped hamster combat token, and the developers announced that those getting paid through tonkeeper would receive priority and slightly higher rewards, as they could collect hamster combat coins on the ton blockchain. For moving or swapping coins to other wallets required little ton coin for transaction fees, people bought ton coin in large amounts during time. As a result, at that time, ton coin reached the top 10 cryptocurrencies due to massive buying and the promotion from hamster combat. This is how they earned much popularity.

I love it ∞/21,000,000.

If by design it's make to be simply, they could have done it on the background for people that want to use the individual wallet. This is looking like a centralized wallets even though they claimed to be decentralized.
