Because many graduates are now entering jobs once filled with school leavers ( drop out), the fears that many graduates will be underemployed have increased. Most careers are already in knowledge-based white collar occupations. The need for young people to be educated to their full potential is even more important than before. Graduate recruiters are now rarely satisfied with a degree on its own. Courses vary substantially in their intellectual rigour. It is also widely felt that standard are not consistent among the various, shall we say, computer institutions and universities. Consequently, employers are starting to favour specific institutions/ universities and types of course.

Moreover, recruiters expect graduates to have some general working related skills as one of their selection criteria. Because, these skills can be applied in amy job, they are usually described as " transferrable skills". These dexterities include team working , leadership, social skills, good oral and written communications, problem solving, business awareness, numeracy, the ability to prioritize work, effective time management, computer literacy, and so on. Training in transferrable skills is now being built into a slowly growing number of degree course because people are increasingly likely to have to move between various employees during their careers. To have portfolio of skills and experience which can be applied in any job is a vital asset. Nigerian graduates on the one year compulsory  National Youth Service Corps ( NYSC) scheme are also oriented towards such desirable and clever mental proficiencies.

Computer literacy is becoming ever more important at work. Because, constantly updated information is increasingly easy to access on databases and from the internet worldwide. Generally, employers feel that thee are now too many qualifications and that there is a need for rationalism. Because the pace of change is constantly celebrating and organizations have to adapt faster than before. It is now widely accepted that people have to undertake lifelong learning.and training.

Up until recently, "training" was give to employees by their employers. Today, this is largely only true of trainings for job in hand. Those who hope to make career progress are increasingly expected by employers to identify their own training and career development needs and then to ask for appropriate training and work experience. People are expected to take charge of their own careers.

Graduates are not only underemployed but are already somehow unemployed.
As for employers wanting a would be employee to have all the skills and like how many years of work experience from not more than 30 years graduate I use to wonder where and when they expect people to get all that experience to just come and serve them. For sure some experiences are basic but some are not.
Just imagine how years of experience and level of experience with amount of proves that will be required if a company here is hiring someone to handle their crypto space?

whether underemployed or unemployed the fact still remains that there is a very huge vacuum in the labour market market in Nigeria which I believe is a function of unavailability of jobs in the society and also the unpreparedness of the job  seekers (graduates) whom are always depending on the government and private sectors for employment.

I believe obtaining a skill and being productive before leaving school could afford you the opportunity of being self dependent thereby creating an opportunity for yourself and probably others instead of seeking for jobs that you may never find anyway!
