Hello everybody. So after some dark times, I'm back.

Please, mods, I'm not sure where I should post this. If I posted it on the wrong board, my apologies, feel free to move it.

I'm fixing to buy a hardware wallet, so after some reading, the SafePal S1 wallet keeps popping up as the "best one for wallet security". So here are a couple of questions:

Is it really safer than the rest?

Has anybody here had any experience with it, and/or the S1 Pro, X1? Any pros/cons?

Thank you all in advance. Smiley

Personally, I've no experience with HW from Safepal. However, a few years ago, there was a discussion on this forum regarding this matter, but it seems that the discussion on the topic is no longer as active as before. You can check it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5257785

Then, HW related discussions should not be here, because we have a dedicated board for all HW discussions, you don't need to move this topic, because I've reported it to the moderator to be moved.

you don't need to move this topic, because I've reported it to the moderator to be moved.

Oh, thank you! I don't have a clue how to do it, so that takes a weight off my back.

I can not recommend Safepal because it is close source.

Why not go for Trezor? Trezor is open source and support many altcoins.

I do not think the topic needs to be moved if OP wants altcoins hardware wallet. So already I know that I should not post about bitcoin-only hardware wallets which are the best hardware wallets so far.

Their website says they are open source, but I don’t know the exact details. Some wallets make this claim, but they are only partially open source, with the secure element usually being closed source.

Safepal is a very inexpensive hardware wallet, but I don’t hear too many people recommending it. It is not compatible with many popular third party wallets like Rabby and Metamask, so you will be forced to use their own software. I tried their mobile wallet once and didn’t really like it. This requirement of only being locked into their ecosystem made me not want to buy one before.

Just like the Trezor you mentioned, Safepal also supports many altcoins & Bitcoin (BTC). The reason I suggested moving the topic is because @OP could get more relevant answers from users who frequently visit Hardware wallets.

Their website says they are open source, but I don’t know the exact details. Some wallets make this claim, but they are only partially open source, with the secure element usually being closed source.

From what I read from some reviews on the internet, Safepal is open-source, but not completely open-source, only some parts are open-source. Based on tests conducted by WalletScrutiny, Safepal S1 only passed 8 out of 10 tests. It's better not to use this HW if we have other better options.

The wallet was close source before until they make a model I think last year or last two year, but despite the claim that it is open source wallet, according to wallet scrutiny, Safepal devices are all close source.

Just type SafePal here for you to know if it is open or close source: https://walletscrutiny.com/

Safepal is close source.

Is it really safer than the rest?
No, safepal is not the safest nor most secure for anything.
This is just another closed source device that had serious security flaws in the past, and I honestly don't trust them.
Few years ago I wrote a topic about this so you can take a look if you want:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5317884.0

There are plenty of good open source alternatives that are not expensive at all.
Trezor is about to release new device in few days, Satochip is good if you want card format wallet, Keystone is better than safepal as airgapped device, etc.

Thanks to all!
I just read the topic MAAManda linked (thank you). Very informative.
And I've also been playing with the walletscrutiny site (and loving it). It's gonna be a bit harder (or a lot), but I think I'm going with the Trezor.

Thank you  all for the replies. I'm gonna lock this thread now, not to keep duplicate threads active.
