My investment strategy in 2025

I have been buying and holding bitcoin since 2017.

I took some profits last year in December when the bitcoin price reached 100K but still held on to most of it.
I got scared when all the tariff talk started and I started selling a little more and more every month. By the end of
September I sold about half of my bitcoin and put it into gold. I was never a big gold guy but the price was on a
crazy run (and still is) so I felt that was the best way to start diversifying my investments.

Why gold? Gold and bitcoin are in the same investment class since both are considered a store of value.
Bitcoin is the only crypto that could be considered a store of value.

So to me gold serves as a good counter-balance against bitcoin's volatility by having both in your portfolio.

I probably should have diversified more back then and not held so much in bitcoin. It would have been better for my sanity.
But that is what I am doing now.

There are pros and cons to each. So why not enjoy the benefits of both? You don't have to pick one or the other.

One thing I don't like with gold is having to find a place to physically store and hide it. If you have a large amount
of physical gold that seems like a major security risk. It's not much different than keeping large amounts of cash
in your closet or under your bed.  The gold people always tell you to own the physical thing instead of a gold stock or ETF.
I understand why they say that but it's also one of the drawbacks of self-custody with gold compared to bitcoin.

It is fine for those who want to self-custody gold, but for me I prefer gold ETFs with a reputable brokerage.
Having to physically travel to a gold store or exchange to buy or sell is another security risk, and much less convenient than
buying/selling bitcoin on your computer. I wonder if there are criminals who hang out at these gold exchange places
waiting to follow you back to your house? It feels like putting a target on your back for the thieves.

Investing in gold is a good move, from what I've read about it so far. I do not own gold yet; I still don't understand the market enough. I only hold bitcoin. In fact, I had a lot of misconceptions about investing in gold till I joined this forum, but now I'm beginning to read and learn a lot. I can see that gold is outperforming bitcoin currently, but it was not previously so. Hopefully, I will understand enough to buy gold. I understand Bitcoin enough, though even though I have not been investing as long as you have, and I like to stick to what I know.

Lucky for you that gold is also performing very good in last 6 months. But we should not comapre bitcoin with gold. Both have completely different loyal audience.

I don't understand your point, and you're comparing gold and Bitcoin in terms of profit or security.
Because my goal in owning Bitcoin is to generate better returns than other investments, including gold, which doesn't generate significant returns, and gold is highly volatile, even stagnant. This makes it very difficult for me to generate profits, even in the long term.
Bitcoin is indeed highly volatile, but this can be avoided by implementing a long-term strategy and increasing holdings when the price drops or using the DCA method, and that has allowed me to generate substantial profits in the long term. As for security, so far I've never felt unsafe. Everything is fine, and it all depends on each individual's security.

If you want to profit from Bitcoin, I think now is a good time to accumulate or increase DCA purchases. It's a good idea, and you can normalize purchases when the price rises because now is the best time and discounts, and I still strongly believe Bitcoin will reach new highs by the end of the year.

DCA in physical gold investment is risky because you open yourself to attack. Instead of that, to trade gold through exchange fund or ETF gives you more security and better. The world is moving towards digital where you can do everything you require online, so to keep investing on physical gold isn't the best choice. Bitcoin stands out on this, you store in your wallet to the exclusion of others.

However, if you have been investing in bitcoin since 2017, you must be one of the whales and shakers of the market   I don't want to ask you how many bitcoin have you sold so far or still hodling.

In comparison, you only compare things that have same features and characteristics.  I no understand it's your personal assets and plans but many newbies are here to learn from us. So anything you write it for public consumption.
Gold is an ancient investment, Bitcoin is just a Genz investment. It's not up to 20years and we can see that it has supersedes many things in value and adoption.  Gold is a good just as Bitcoin is also good , for me I'll prefer Bitcoin investment to gold everyday. In the next 50years Bitcoin will top Gold in value. Is Better I grow with Bitcoin then gold.

The reason you moved some of your funds from Bitcoin to gold  is fear, you're panicking about Bitcoin price, that's why I said your l writing is for the public, and we have to criticize it. In Bitcoin investment once you panic you will need up selling your portfolio and you will lose more. But if you know the working of Bitcoin, you should never be panic over the price of it. The dip market is an opportunity to top up your portfolio.

Gold has always been one sort after asset for a long time far before Bitcoin. I can say that Bitcoin has done greatly by covering a huge grounds on Gold.
I believe every investor has the duty to do their own research but for me gold is not a bad buy but I will always pick Bitcoin over gold but if you can own both then by all means do as you please.

You mentioned a disadvantage for gold hoarding where as a physical asset if you hide it at home or in your room or under your bed then the chances of it getting stolen are very high. In this case you will be more likely to be kidnapped.
However, Bitcoin is an asset that you can store in a wallet, keeping it secure in a way that prevents it from being stolen or hacked by robbers or other means.
However, I am not saying that investing in gold is risky, but if someone wants to invest in both gold and Bitcoin, then they are definitely welcome. Both are investments that will be profitable in the future, but one will give quick profits, the other will give slow profits.

That may be a very good step for some views and there is nothing wrong with that because we must realize that in the end it is a matter of choice.

Regardless of whether you choose gold, bitcoin or even both it depends on your own confidence because quoting from what you said these two investments are still one of the best investments that can indeed be done to hedge our finances.

When indeed we want a slightly more comfortable risk then gold is the main choice but if you want to have a slightly greater risk but in terms of profit it can be unpredictable from the start we start then bitcoin is the best thing we can choose.

The price of Bitcoin fluctuates and it constantly creates new records in a circle. And this requires a long time, so investing in Bitcoin must be long-term. And the market has both bull and bear seasons, so no matter what the investment is, you should not invest all the money at once, but invest according to the DCA method so that it does not face major losses. Because when you invest all at once, if the price of Bitcoin goes down a lot, it will create a panic in the mind and create a fear that will make you emotional to sell Bitcoin at a loss. OP, I don't know what made you draw this comparison between Bitcoin and gold. If I should let you know Bitcoin is the store of value you would have for the future, you would think of making huge profits than gold.

Let's think it this way, if you had gold not Bitcoin in 2017, would you have made the kind of profits you made from Bitcoin since buying it in 2017, to sell some part of it in December last year when it was $100k?

In 2017, the price of one gram of gold was $40.68; currently, it is $80.35(the price doubled). For Bitcoin, Bitcoin started the year price in 2017 at $998. 20, ended the year with a price at $19,345.49. From your explanation, you bought and hodl Bitcoin from 2017 till you sold some in December 2024 for $100k.

Well from what I picked from your topic I think you are trying to show up the move you have made in between Bitcoin investments and Gold investment and how good it is to you ,and it's a kind of advising to people who may likely want to ,or seeking for other investments to go into.

But you know that in every investment one needs to consider the risky attach to it before embarking on it,so as to be able to make a wise decision on which one is less risky compared to the other.

And in the other way round i still like how you were able to point out the risk attached to the gold investment, when you take about the risk of keeping the physical gold and about selling the physical gold in the gold market,both of them are very risky compared to Bitcoin, because the risky of the physical gold is dangerous to life,in the sense that sometimes it involves lost of life and assets meanwhile in Bitcoin it can only be the lost of assets, because the risky of gold involves physically attack which may lead to killing of the owner on the process of trying to snatch the gold from him or her..

Now that the price as not pump enough yet since the price decrease. You have the opportunity to top your investment and if you have not yet start investing this is and opportunity to invest before the 2025 ends because anything can probably happen to the price of bitcoin, and he can increase massively before the season ends so we should not take any chance we get to invest in bitcoin as play. Want scared some people they don't want to lose when they invest and that can't happen you need to sacrifice if you want to achieve something.

Gold is good investment but bitcoin as take over it may people don't really used gold now anyone that understands bitcoin will always go for it because that is the coin that can make you rich as still minimize your risk and things will still be going well for you, he just for you to have patience in and invest for the long and you will surely achieve your goal. At the time I started buying gold I did not believe the price would keep going up like it has.
At the time it was around $3300 per ounce. I started dollar cost averaging a little into gold etfs
around April. It took me a few months to get to where I am now so it's not like I dumped
it all into gold all at once.

I thought gold already had a huge run and would probably top out around $3500 by the end of the year.
But of course it has gone up even higher than that and now above $4K already. I did not expect that at all.
I know I didn't want to keep my bitcoin profits in cash because cash is a melting ice cube, so gold seems
like the best logical alternative to diversify into.

All the gold people are expecting a big correction for gold but they have been saying that for months and it
still didn't do that. It seems to only be going up at least for now.

Financial planners always tell you to diversify and be more conservative with investments as you get older.
If I was younger, I would probably keep holding everything in bitcoin but at my upper middle age I should probably
take their advice. I still have about half of my holdings in bitcoin but it has varied lately between 35 to 50 per cent.

I get it as well while others like the gold etfs rather than getting the physical thing and they've got the same reasons about they don't want to own the tangible thing for them to keep it.

I might start buying a few gold coins at Costco or something just for the heck of it. Then I will really start to feel like an old-timer.

Many gold people are expecting the price to keep going up well into 2026. They are saying probably $5K to $6K.
They might be saying that just to pump their own bags, but then again this prediction doesn't seem unreasonable given the huge
macro-economic uncertainly with dollar devaluation and the forty trillion national debt, endless money printing and spending,
Trump tariffs and all the other crazy stuff going on.

Every time Trump tweets something crazy it crashes the market but that only causes gold to go up even higher.

Diversifying is good. I'm always in favor of having a diversified portfolio. However, the ratios matter here. I think Bitcoin should have a high weight in every portfolio. Gold is a safe haven, but its growth is slow as well. Bitcoin is now less volatile, but over a 10-year period, it will still yield more than gold. I don't know how large your holdings are, but if it's a significant amount, I completely understand moving to less risky investment instruments. I hope your investments turn out the way you want in the long run.
