“Ballad of a Small Player” is an adaptation of Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel of the same name and is set to debut with a limited theatrical run beginning October 15, 2025, ahead of its worldwide release on Netflix on October 29. The movie follows the life of Lord Doyle, played by Farrell, as he grapples with addiction and debt as he tries to keep his head above water in Macau’s casino world.

with these shows available in big platforms, many people are able to watch shows about gambling and casinos. have you watched any of the shows mentioned and do you think there is accuracy in what is portrayed? we know that hollywood can exaggerate a few things to appear entertaining so what do you think are things that hollywood always gets wrong when it comes to gambling or gamblers?

Kakegurui is one of my favorite gambling anime and become popular on Netflix before. They do have a live action adaptation due to its popularity and I believe a gambling based game or a risky game type movie like squid game is very popular genre nowadays.

I still don’t watch this movie I have a lot of backlogs series to watch but I will do add this on watchlist if I will stumble on it on my suggestions.

Those extreme luck they are showing that later on planned way ahead of time. Like the film of Will smith and Margot robbie betting against Chinese gambler about what’s the player on his mind.

I haven’t seen or heard of any of those films until now. Maybe I’ll check them out if I find myself with some free time and nothing else good is on.

I’m not a huge fan of gambling movies and shows, but I do make one exception for Brewster’s Millions. That is a classic movie that everyone should take the time to watch.

Ballard of a small players sound good. Today is 15th of October i will check em out. In the meantime i have never watched any of the other two movies you mentioned. They may portray real experiences of gambler and many scene in those movies can be easily relatable.

Hollywood movies are not as bad as we think they are. I found most of their movies, educational beyond entertainment. Although, some parts are meant to crack the ribs using fictional elements.

This is an entirely whole new thing and games to me, infact I am learning already from the comments and the thread, I will take further time to learn more about this and also know if I have unknownly come across them in the past.

Hollywood is one biggest global movie hubs that we can see a lot of talent and and unknown movies that can interest one so much.

Thanks for sharing this OP. Although I haven't watched much, I've always enjoyed the movie 21, a good gambling film. For series, as others have mentioned, both anime and live-action adaptations of Kakegurui are entertaining.

I guess what's missing with gambling movies is the part where there should be "addiction" to gambling and how they would deal with it. Plus, exploring the differences between cultures could be a good approach for a movie or something.

We'll have to take a look at those productions. I think that an audiovisual work shouldn't be taken too seriously when compared to reality. Reality is simply more boring, and that's why cinema resorts to exaggeration in most of its films and series. However, there are many films and series based on gambling and addictions. I remember that the last film I saw on the subject was Adam Sandler's "Uncut Gems," which, if I remember correctly, is on Netflix.

I didn't know about these three series that OP mentioned until now, but I'm curious, so I'm going to watch them because the theme is really fun
Whenever I watch a movie that features casinos and gambling, it makes me want to gamble too, hehehe
Especially if it's in Las Vegas or has lots of slot machines or roulette

Gambling stories made into movies. I have watched a lot of those types of movies, but I still cannot see how realistic it is. I know some directors use stories from real people, and there are those who would use fiction for their movie. Still, they will need an ending for it, and I doubt a real person has that kind of ending just yet, or if yes, I highly doubt it is that good, with how they portray it in the movies.

They are just movies, I'd like to keep it that way.

I have watched the Kakegurui anime and the Bet series that is based on it. The live series is intended for a younger audience so I would only suggest the anime for most people. It is very good, even if you don’t know much about gambling.

Gambling is a hard topic to make a series around, that’s why we don’t see very many. I always think of gambling as being intense and fast paced, which makes it more ideal for movie plots.

First time of hearing about this though I do not use Netflix that much
and if this program could be feature in other local sub channels it would better
 to follow up since I haven't watch it for the first time.
Of course Hollywood are too manipulatives to make things
that aren't real to be real just attract and catches people's attention.
