‎Here are some reasons why it is not advised to share your hotspot when trading, saving/hodling, or transacting with BTC:
‎1. You face the biggest risk of network compromise or better known as the 'bad apple' effect, in which the person connecting to your hotspot could have malware, virus or spyware with even a packet sniffing node running on their devices knowingly or unknowingly.

‎2. The Man-in-the-Middle, MitM risk is more likely to affect the Hotspot User by inadvertently exposing their own data to someone else or to fake phishing websites and links that an attacker could use to steal credentials.

‎3. There is also the Legal Risk involved whenever we hotspot strangers or even friends who are into illicit activities and then use the opportunity to access bad contents or do scams and fraud because it could be traced back to the sharer of the hotspot because of the IP address tag.

‎4. There might also be the issue of loss of Bandwidth and higher data charges even though it might not be a serious concern, still it could slow down the rate of transactions volume or cause late execution of trade orders.

Interesting how a little bit of kindness just to hotspot a friend or strangers is now i big security risk, and from all that you have outlined is obvious that we face alot of risk with sharing hotspots with others.

I never take this serious until i read this thread so know more about thia malwares and other tools used to access our personal informations just by connecting to your hotspot.

How about with family? Some family members are even more dangerous than friends and even strangers.

We also need to be cautious with family members IMO, especially when you notice them having a dubious character. Some family members do not recognize that you are family and place no importance on family bonds; they will do to you even worse than strangers will, so caution is also necessary.

Sometimes it's better to say no. Especially if you are worried about safety, even if that person asks for your mobile hotspot, there are some reasons you can make up just for them not to connect. Just like me, I am always telling that I don't have "unlimited" mobile data, where it's true. It's just a pay-as-you-go mobile data, where it is extremely expensive if it is used for non-useful things.

Especially in the cryptocurrency market, where hacks, malware, scams, etc., are extremely common.

Good thing I’m really not used in sharing my hotspot. I just think that it’s invading my privacy, even when I’m still not a trader in the crypto market. I just don’t like it, maybe because I have also advanced thinking that he can easily access my personal account if ever, and now that I read your post, then I guess I actually have done the right thing.

However, regardless though, even if you aren’t a trader yet, still sharing your hotspot is  still risky as it is. You don’t need to do that, and you aren’t obliged to share it to others, knowing privacy and security are way more important than being kind.

i don't share my hotspot.  why don't you have one on your phone?  if you have connectivity, why do you need mine?
ill flat out tell them, no, the moment i let you on, any garbage you got on your phone, is now on mine / looking at mine and i have too much to lose.
if they get bent over it, again, why can't you use your bandwidth? why mooch mine?

what he said hits spot on.  made the mistake of letting a friend us my wifi once because his would not connect,  next thing i know im getting all kinds of shit on my phone because of the sleazy sites he went to on his.

you also have to remember, many of these 'free' apps and stuff,  the stupid crap you click without reading, says share this, share that, share camera, phone use, files, bla bla.   yah yah yah agree just gimme my free stuff !!   the moment you shared with him,  YOU just agreed to that spy scumware as well by proxy, because YOU gave him permission to be on your stuff.... with all his stuff.

can i borrow your phone, i need to make a phone call.   what's wrong with your phone... umm i don't want them to know it's me... oh HELL no you are not dragging me into your garbage.... literally the same thing sharing wifi.

I think it's more likely you're the one able to transmit a virus by hotspotting than from someone connecting to you. There's another big problem that you have to consider whether anyone can packetsniff insecure connections to your hotspot (particularly if you haven't set a password or the connection is insecure for some reason - like one of you having bad random number generation).

im not trying to pick on you here but want to make a point.

you think it works one way.  but you don't KNOW .....  that right there is the road to hell, paved with good intentions.

i don't understand a lot of the phone tech anymore, and it changes every other damned week.  this good, haha ok boomer, that was so last month  type thing    we don't know if we are safe or not because the tech keeps changing.  not to mention opening it up for just a second to let him 'discover' it because im too fkn stupid to know where to dig to find the password to my wifi / hot spot bla bla lets those who ARE evil and just lurking in too.

id rather be safe than think i am only to find out someone got in and drained my account.

then again that's another topic all on it's own.  WHY you carrying your life's savings around with you on your phone?  you should ice that where it's safer.   everything we do is a calculated risk and we daily are having to weigh, am i willing to take it, to do this or that.

at the end of the day, you don't have internet on your phone?  there ARE apps you can use the phone part for internet you know?  like the old cell modem days.

At the first place why you need to open your hotspot at the public places you have your own data connection so unless you want to connect other people right there also most of the hotspot now have their security and not an open password that could easily access. At the same time is avoid connecting to the public wifi because you dont know if its secured and if you are active person outside such as doing trading you must have this and not just reply on free connections.

No, I do not share my hotspot with friends or those whom I don't know. If I activate my hotspot, that is for my other devices and I always password-protect it. I don't want something bad that I don't know happens in front of me.

I don't show my trading activity in public because that can make people question what I do. Besides that, I do not talk about trading to others if they don't know trading.

If you are at a public place, log in your exchange accounts, open your cryptocurrency wallets is risky practice and it makes no sense to share your Mobile Hotspot to other people in such public locations.

You can use it very personally and privately for yourself and don't share it with anyone especially strangers. Make sure you set up a very strong password for your Mobile Hotspot too.

More important, make sure that you only use your hot wallets with very small funds in such public locations with their given Wifi or with your mobile hotspot.

I will never share my internet connection to stranger, after all it's 2025 and internet connection is very cheap, why should I need to.
You can be in a middle of isolated land and could still connect to internet using starlink.

If they can't connect to internet, it's on them. My device security comes first.
