I found a viral video on YouTube where an XRP holder claims that his long-accumulated XRP has been hacked. And it is a very large amount, 1210000 XRP, which is about $3 million at the current market price. He detailed in the video that these XRPs were held in his ELLIPAL wallet and his funds were stolen from there. It is really sad that hackers have ended a man's retirement plan. It is actually very important that when investing in crypto, an investor must have the knowledge to ensure the security of their funds. This crypto user actually made a mistake that allowed hackers to access his funds and empty his wallet and transfer the funds.

He has already released some more videos about what happened to him. But the biggest thing here is that he lost his funds.We need to learn from this victim, that if you invest your savings in crypto, you must always be aware and vigilant about the security of those funds.

The internet is becoming a scary place, it's now a homeland for scammers. One single mistake: your whole asset which you have worked for is gone, the way you are busy working tirelessly for the future. That's how someone is also somewhere planning on how to feed your retirement funds.

We all need to be careful. The old man doesn't even know how he was hacked as he lacks experience of the whole situation, so what was wrong is not even yet identified as to how the hackers were able to access the wallet.

FBI might be of help, but the help in tracking those guys down might happen when the owner of the funds might no longer be their to claim their wealth, as they will be working hard tracking those criminals and just waiting for them to make one error. They will help identify them. We have seen cases which took years before they were able to crack it down.

I feel really sorry for him, but he has been into crypto for more than eight years and he seems to know how to keep his wallet safe. He did everything he was supposed to do the right way from using a hardware wallet (although I’m not familiar with Ellipal and don’t know how safe it is) to backing up the wallet seed and keeping it secure. So, it would be really interesting to know how he got hacked!

He actually accidentally imported the seed phrase of the cold wallet, used it in the app, and made it a hot wallet. And as soon as the wallet was logged into the internet, the hackers who were already monitoring the phone got access to the wallet. This has been revealed in the initial investigation so far.

As far as I can tell, he may have been interested in logging into his wallet on his phone to monitor it easily. Because of this, he made his wallet a hot wallet by importing his seed phrase into the Ellipal Wallet app and gave access to the wallet to hackers. This is very sad.

Mixers have some level of traceability so there's still hope (most users withdraw fairly quickly iirc etc) and I imagine an amount of that size would stick out unless other tactics were also employed.



This is quite sad to see but I don't think that hardware wallet is that common. Security by obscurity is only good when you've got a multisig with something less obscure imo.

That was a lot to lose though it was a lot to put in too. I don't think XRP has seen the same return as other cryptos in the same time period (not sure why but it looks quite a bit lower).

It was a pretty fatal mistake to import his cold wallet seed phrase into the app, unaware that hackers were already monitoring his device. I feel sorry for him, as that was a significant amount of money and part of his retirement plan. Maybe if he hadn't done that, he could have used the money to retire in peace, but it's a shame that the money just disappeared.

This incident reminds us of the potential threats to the devices we use and why air-gapped devices are so important for securing our assets.

Damn, is he using android? because with IOS i doubt any random malware could get in since it prohibits side loading.
This is why i'm only using closed ecosystem like IOS for trading or any banking related purpose. Android with its side loading is just too unsecure for me.

Hey guys, we have a new update from the victim. Apparently, ELLIPAL responded to his email! You might wanna check it out, know how the scam happened and the whole story afterwards. Man this really saddens me ! He thought it was his cold wallet, but accidentally made it hot but importing seeds it seems! And orange for hot and blue for cold, who would have thought it was designed that way. He had no idea. I really hope he can get back his coins, if not all but some of it. He literally tried to contact everyone, from law enforcement, to youtubers, FBI, Homeland security, ic3..I hope his efforts pays off.

Many times people have a different mindset about crypto, thinking that if they go to law enforcement, they will be harassed even more by having to answer various questions. So he tried other ways to track the funds, but he failed and wasted valuable time. And when someone loses such a large amount of funds, that person naturally loses his or her common sense so that he or she cannot make the right decisions at the right time.

It is true that if he had contacted law enforcement at the right time and reported the hack, the funds would have been tracked quickly, and the hackers would not have been able to launder the funds so quickly.

But yes, in reality I have to agree with what was said above - Don't ever hold everything in one place.

If it was me I'd probably divide 3 mil amongst 5 exchanges and 2 custodial wallets. Also staking in some pools would be considerable, because what good is money when it's just laying around without use.

True - you might not want to trust exchanges because in history there's been some shady things, but I'm pretty sure top exchanges like Binance, Gate, KuCoin, ByBit and Coinbase aren't really going anywhere.

They may not go anywhere easily, but they can create any issue to harass you and even freeze your account.Therefore, holding large amounts of funds on exchanges is not a good idea either. Exchanges create so many kinds of drama that no one except the victim can understand how bad the pain is. When you have such a large amount of funds, you should always try to learn how to protect those funds. We can understand from this victim's story how bad the consequences of a small mistake can be. So I believe that exchanges can never be used for long-term holding.

I am replying this topic based on the title.. do you really think it was hacked? Maybe the owner might have misplaced the key where others could copy and made away there funds. Of course during bull season cryptocurrency holder are vulnerable to hackers because at then hackers are desperate to either hack people and made away with their funds. During bull run they always send phishing site or wallet , it could be app but immediately someone downloads and use the wallet you would see them losing their funds immediately without having control over there assets.
