A person who had his one kidney removed and other loans sharks still chasing him while his wife and kids cry at the corner would be a nice image.
But I still think it would be too much for gambling ads to have graphic warnings. A large text warning should be sufficient or if they are really concerned that ads are attracting more people that otherwise would not be, they could just ban all gambling ads like some country does. There are already restrictions to feature an adult and not suggest gambling as a solution to money problem. In the times of internet, the people wanting to gamble would find their way one way or another.

Call me radical or something, but don't think it's too much. They did it on Cigarettes, so why not gambling? At least in gambling, almost all of the people who will see it are adults. Actually, I remember reading articles about this in the past, and from what I remember, the number of smokers or at least the amount of cigarettes being smoked in the Philippines, has decreased a lot. It's expected that there will still be people who will smoke. But then again, I also remember that the possible reason for the big drop in smokers in the Philippines is because of the higher tax that was put on cigarettes, making them expensive. So, the graphic warnings might not be the main reason why the smokers dropped, but it also probably helped in some ways.

I think they’re just making things more complicated. Trying to overregulate doesn’t really help, especially when the real problem is corruption. There’s no need to overdo the warnings, casinos already have clear signs like “18+” or “21+ only,” and that alone tells gamblers they need to be of legal age before playing.

Besides, gambling is meant to be entertainment, so why keep adding more warnings?
It’s like they assume most people who enter casinos are automatically at risk of addiction. I think that’s the wrong approach.

Gambling is one of the most dangerous activities that exit, especially when combined with other addictive substances like alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.

Nonsense argument. Should they stop paying out salaries and retirement money too until they solve corruption?   Different parts of the government will work on different issues. This is nowhere near "over-regulation" territory.

It is not radical at all, it is sensible and your opinion is correct on this statement. People assume that adults by default understand the riskiness of different behaviors. This is an absolute delusion of stupid people. Most adults do not understand the risks of anything. Just because a person has read that something may cause addiction, cancers and whatnot that does not mean that they understand anything at all. Memorizing text is not understanding. Even graphic warnings are not sufficient for a lot of people.

Graphic warning might be effective to discourage non gambler to play and try gambling but for those who already gambling I doubt this graphic warning will fully stop them.

This method was already used to cigarette products but until now cigarettes consumption is high not to mention that we have sin tax already that increases the price significantly.

It seems like this regulation is similar to the regulation on the use of graphic content for smoking bans, intended to create a psychological impact on the public, making them more aware of the dangers of smoking and discouraging them from doing so. So perhaps this regulation will hopefully influence fewer people to try or continue gambling.

In my country (EU) for many years now there have been pictures on cigarette packs that are quite disgusting and show what smoking can do to your health, but as you say it hasn't really influenced people to quit smoking. Some have found an alternative in tobacco, from which they make their own cigarettes, or use electronic ones, which are especially popular among young people.

If you want to solve the problem of addiction to something, then you have to start doing it at an early age - but unfortunately, children of parents who drink alcohol, smoke or are addicted to gambling usually adopt their parents' habits.

Does the implementing body or those who think about this strategy find it effective? It was not too much because gamblers will simply ignore it, just like the other warnings.

People/gamblers don't change because of seeing warnings. They only change when they really feel too much disappointment and stress. Honestly, they are just wasting money and time on this, as it won't influence the mindset of the gambler. They will continue and fall into addiction.

What the government does to prevent addiction is to completely ban locals from gambling or impose bigger taxes. And give them another opportunity to earn money, so they don't have a reason to gamble for money.

If the government wants to implement it strictly, the local online casinos can’t do anything but follow. There are recent reports where PAGCOR said their revenue dropped by 49% after e-wallets removed casino links from their apps. It is not supposed to stop existing people. It does not work on more than a minor percentage of users, the same is the case with the cigarette warnings. Existing smokers just don't perceive them, completely ignoring them as if they weren't even there.

It is possible that the problem has escalated so much that the government decides to take such measures to reduce the number of gambling addicts. Warnings are only part of what can be done, but the question is how many people actually pay attention to such things.

As long as the measure is pretty cheap and not overly complicated, it should be tried or used as part of a comprehensive set of measures to combat the problem.

Restricting access of the youth to all these things is key. This is an issue that will take a several generations to solve. No measures can solve it within a short amount of time.

Without a doubt a big percentage of people should not be allowed to have children at all. However, the problem is that there is no good solution to this. Whether it is completely preventing them from having children or a less extreme measure that still radically invades privacy, any effective solution would turn the modern world in a totalitarian nightmare that is worse than 1984.

The Philippine government did it on cigarettes; they raised the tax, but that didn't stop addiction to cigarettes, so they recommended graphic warnings, which lowered addiction, but it's pretty different because cigarettes are a health concern. Still, when it comes to gambling, they have to do better because there are promised rewards in gambling, something that attracts gamblers.

It's all about taxes, the government is under pressure to look good and collect higher taxes, as we have been seeing for over a decade in most countries, cigarettes bring visual warnings that tell you about possible diseases and negative things, and no one has ever stopped smoking because of it, so it is clear that it is because of taxes, which is why I think the same will happen with casinos, people will continue to gamble the same, it could even have an opposite effect and end up generating an adverse reaction to what is being sought and people will end up even more interested in gambling.

I guess this question can be easily answered by those who live in Philippine. I'm not sure of the state or how bad online gambling has become in that part of the world, though I have seen so many threads that keeps emphasizing of gambling problems around that region. The thing is, putting a ban to online gambling might actually not be the best solution since people still find ways of doing it aways. Much attention should be channeled to underage gambling instead. And I just don't want to believe gambling isn't generating a decent revenue for a country that has large consumers.

And mind you, one reason I also feel putting a ban might not be visible is because I can remember reading a thread on this board that talked about two individuals using public funds to bet. If such people make up the majority in the Philippine government, I don't see them addressing this issue anytime soon.

We have seen, read, and heard countless bad stories about gambling addiction, but it did not deter people from gambling, because their reasoning is that's not going to happen to me. After all, I will win or play within my means, or I have plans that will work out if properly implemented.

Gambling is totally different; with cigarettes and alcohol, you are harming your body, and you just want the feeling. When it comes to gambling, there is an expectation of monetary rewards that fuels gambling addiction. Once gamblers taste huge winnings, they will ignore all the warnings.

The one thing that will stop them if they experience the lows of addiction, and from advice from their loved ones, graphics will not change their attitude towards gambling.

Higher minimum deposit amount into casinos can hinder people from gambling more than anything. Sounds like some busybody in the financial regulations department had an "epic" brainwave that gambling should be discouraged in the same way as smoking. Except I'm not sure it'll have the same effect because the outcomes are different - smoke produces a stench, it does discolour teeth, ruins your organs and is a source of cancer, but none of these really translate across to gambling. The most they can really do is show someone with empty pockets after a night out. It sounds a bit gimmicky and not necessarily well thought out, but maybe it was the idea of the year for that department and the leader was told to come up with something they've achieved this year.
