The Bitcoin I Forgot

I started mining Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin back in 2016, when I was still in school. I didn’t have much money back then, so I couldn’t afford a good CPU or GPU mining machine. The mobile phone and computer I had weren’t powerful enough to make any real profit from mining, so I eventually lost hope.At that time, I had about $0.50 in my Coinbase wallet. Since the amount was so small, I couldn’t even withdraw it. If I calculate now, the coins I mined back then would probably be worth at least $100–$150 or maybe even more today.

Anyway, I completely forgot about everything after that. I finished my studies and started my job in 2021. But I never thought about saving any money in Bitcoin.

Had it been you knew bitcoin would have been this far and great, maybe you could have done something more crucial to secure the future, but one thing we must as today appreciates about bitcoin is it's consistence increase in value, which means that opportunity in making an investment is never ending, only if we are able to see the advantage in today's opportunity by investing to smile tomorrow.

Perhaps it's because none of your friends are involved in Bitcoin, so even though you've known about it for a long time and even mined, when not many people talk about Bitcoin in your environment, you slowly get carried away and then forget about it. Sometimes, our environment has a big influence on how we think and make decisions. When those around us don't see the same potential or even underestimate it, we often start to underestimate ourselves. Only after time passes and Bitcoin value increases rapidly does regret set in, not only for the missed financial opportunity, but also for not trusting our instincts and beliefs from the start.

Did you sell those BTC? Did you lose access to that Coinbase wallet? 100-150 USD isn't that much, but you could invest that money in your side hustles(if you have any side hustles).
Every Bitcoiner has regrets about selling BTC years ago, when the price was under 10K USD. Many Bitcoiners have regrets about not starting their Bitcoin journey at an earlier stage(2010-2013).
I've had more than one BTC back in 2015, but I sold it at 300 USD. Nobody expected back then that the BTC price would reach 125K USD.
If I kept this 1 BTC in my wallet for 10 years and sell it this year, my life would be different. The past is gone and there's no point having regrets.

It's the same thoughts for those who have known bitcoin early and yet, they have missed the earlier opportunity when it was so cheap. Now, congratulations to you that you have graduated and started a job. It's never too late to start accumulating with the salary you have. We only have one thing to do is that's to move on and you'd be fine with the next plan you have and that's accumulating. Learn from the past mistake that you have been through and never do the same one for this day and until the next years to come, you have that moment now to correct it.

There is no point in crying about the past and what you could have done but didnt,
there is a good percentage of current Bitcoiners whom this or similar has happened

Whats important is that you realise now that having FIAT in a bank is not the best plan
for your money because inflation is eating away at its value.

Start today with a positive move in Bitcoin and look to the future, move FIAT into Bitcoin
and take full control of your Bitcoin with a hardware wallet.

Blaming you for not being a prophet who could see the future is pointless, alot of people have made mistakes and there is no way you could have known bitcoin would be this successful, that past of yours wasn't entirely your fault, your future will be though, instead of bothering yourself about what you've lost you should be more concentrated on what you still stand to gain, you still have a ways ahead of you so there is absolutely nothing wrong with you deciding to start putting your money into bitcoin now, if you don't then another 9 years from now you are probably still going to start another thrend  about how you missed you opportunity to buy bitcoin in 2025 AGAIN!
So just start investing now so your thrend in 9 years will be about how much bitcoin you've accumulated and how much profit you've made from it.

Many here on the forum, big and small, regret some of the actions that could of been taken.

I think bitcoin was not worth much as at that time and one who is not well grounded on it's strong foundational structure can be easily distracted and loose focus in it, but nigga you lost track for so long, I see you were not interested in buying and  holding earlier but only mining, else you would've got some quantities and hold for a while and may have enjoyed some good profits from your investment.

You still have the opportunity now to continue from where you left off in 2016 as an investor and employ DCA strategy to try gathering some good stashes of bitcoin for yourself and hopefully in the near future you may still have a chance at getting profitable with your investment into bitcoin.

You are not alone in this as there are tons of people with same regrets, but ever having the mindset to realize the mistake done years back and want to start fixing things is what takes one to the next level.

I started with this forum in 2016, as the first place I started hearing about Bitcoin before gaining admission to study, my time in school, I was still active with the forum, I graduated before I started earning little by little, but the expenses of living could not allow me to continue with the forum, which made me to stop accessing the forum for about 5 - 6 years before coming back in late 2024. During these years, I was not able to save a penny in Bitcoin.

My return was my strength, because there is no time tagged to be too late, despite there where lots of good periods gone without positive actions taken.

I think this won’t be the last time in life when a great opportunity to make a good profit turns out to be underestimated and passes by. It happens, especially to those who are actively looking for opportunities. Don’t get upset; that’s just how life is. You still have time to analyze your experience and find your own way to become successful and wealthy.Don’t stop, when you do nothing, you definitely get nothing.

Why you start mining? For making money? Yes I can understand the frustation by earning few cents with this action.
I could not get wrong, but even in the past this was the payrate for a solo miner with small equipments. If you think that some faucets have distributed few btc with a single click...
Probably here there is the lesson. Finally we have something that is really valuable, even a small unit could be valuable. Please accept a suggestion, start back from this point ...

Forget about things you could have done in the past and you did not.  I do not believe there is any of us who did not have similar moments in their life.  Some people did not purchase Apple or Nvidia or Intel Stocks decades ago although they had the instinct to do it.  That is a missed chance but it is still better than others who were Rich, purchased Stocks at the wrong time and became broke in months or even days.

Bitcoin is STILL showing significant positive price changes.  I understand you did lose an opportunity to turn your nothing into a lot of Money but realistically you would have most likely sold WAY before 100,000 Dollars per piece.  And then you would have cried about not holding on to it until today.

What makes you believe Bitcoin is not going to double or triple in the next few years?  It has a proven history of doing such things.  Why would you be late?  Would you like to earn nothing and keep whining or do you actually still believe in Bitcoin and want to catch the 'last train'.  It is your choice after all.  But understand one thing.  No thing is guaranteed.  Particularly if you are emotionally weak and will quit immediately when you see Bitcoin going down by a few percentages.

If you had known about Bitcoin and had your money saved in Bitcoin instead of banks, you would still have come up with this story of forgetting your seed phrase, selling Bitcoin for a low price, or forgetting the logins to your crypto exchange, where you store your bought Bitcoin.

Do you know why you will experience either of the situations or something similar to what I explained above, because by then you won't really know the concept behind Bitcoin, or what you really have to do to become a millionaire in the future. That makes the story always end as missed opportunities of becoming a millionaire in the future

This is the same story of many people today, they had Bitcoin but couldn't hold and are now regretting it. I don't think it helps anyone to dwell in the past, instead, think of the opportunity you have now to still buy Bitcoin and hold for years to come and see that you have not missed Bitcoin already. If you give yourself 20 years from now and you consistently buy as much as your finances can allow, you will magically forget the mistakes of the past.

This question can be continued for a long time. This is the kind of question you ask yourself after you realize your mistake. Or when something has changed globally.
Don't think about missed opportunities - while you're crying, someone will find a new opportunity.

PS. My friend mined BTC in 2012 or 2013 if i remember correctly. I watched on it but it wasn`t interesting, it wasn`t about money. Both of us don`t cares about it. He got some money for electricity bills, i mined later altcoins. We search other opportunities.
PPS. In 2021 in checked all exchanges i ever used and i find about 0.01 BTC on one of them. When i used that exchange BTC cost was about $5.000-8.000.

Because you are busy on your career and probably you didn’t consider Bitcoin as a good investment or else you will just keep accumulating it during 2016 even without mining equipment since there’s faucet, captcha and other paying services for minimal job that can generate Bitcoin aside from mining.

I don’t understand how come a 0.5$ worth of Bitcoin stuck on coinbase and where do you get that dust amount. You have a lot of time back then but you just earn 0.5$.

I do faucet on that year too and I earn much higher rewards. Clearly, you don’t have any motivation to accumulate Bitcoin back then.

At that time your knowledge of Bitcoin was very lacking so it was quite natural that you did not consider saving your money in Bitcoin, and it seems that many people have regrets like what you experienced, but all of that is in the past, and there is no point in crying over what has passed. and now you understand how important it is to invest your money in Bitcoin, and have experienced for yourself how Bitcoin has developed from the beginning you knew it until now, so just start everything again from the beginning and make sure that this time you are consistent in investing your money in Bitcoin.

Almost everyone here has that kind of story here, we know about Bitcoin in it early years or at least when the price is just around < $1000. But we would never know that it will grow this big, and there are people who sold it early because they think it's a fad.

But moving forward, we have our regret story. Yes, you and many of us here could have been millionaires. However, we can't really go back in time and save Bitcoin so that by now we are rich. But we still have time though to invest, maybe we will not be as rich as what we wanted, but still a profit is a profit.

unfortunately, it is always years after when we can now see and understand things more better and clearer that regrets as this comes to mind but sadly, what is gone is long gone and there is nothing we can actually do about it rather than making use of the opportunity we have at the present to sow for the reward we hope to get in the future to come.

like the popular statement you find in most places on the forum goes, The best time to invest in bitcoin is yesterday but that is long gone so the next best time to invest in bitcoin is today and that is all you have left. no amount of regret can bring back what is long gone and that s a fact but we have today to make decisions that stands to better our future such that we do not have to regret not acting now that we have the means to.
