Can We Really Mine Crypto on Phones or Is it just Hype?

Many beginners often see mobile apps that claim one can "mine" crypto on phone. even i also liked the idea at first, but after careful observation or learning more, i realized that most people misunderstand how it really works.

A real mining needs strong computing power to secure blockchain and also process transactions. A phone do not have enough power or such capacity to compete with real mining hardware. So if an app shows that you are "mining" without using much battery, without heat, and without slowing your device, then that is not real "mining" or probably not doing anything.

Instead, some of this apps are only giving you tokens that they created for their own project. The problem is that many of these tokens never even get listed on real exchange. So your balance might just look bigger everyday, but you cannot sell or withdraw it. Some apps even delay withdrawal for weeks, months or never allow at all.

I personally tried Acurast. Yes it does allow users to earn some crypto by running tasks on their phone, but the earnings are very small. You need a lot of patience  before you see any value. it is quite interesting for learning, but not so reliable for someone who needs urgent money.

If a phone mining app:

    1. has no transparent team or real product,
    2. asks you to invest money before earning,
    3. promises very high rewards,
    4. or has a token that is not listed anywhere...
    
...then it is better to stay away from such.

Well phone mining can actually still help beginners understand crypto, but it is not a realistic way to make income for me personally. People should do more research and be careful before trusting any app that looks like an "easy money" opportunity.

It's obvious that it's a hype. Or maybe there could be certain projects that you have mine, but the return is not that big in my opinion. And it could depends on the specs of your mobile phone before you can used it to mine crypto.

So it might not be worth the risk, you can mine but at what cost to your phone? Or how big you're going to mine? Maybe it's going to be peanuts unless you used like a hundred if not thousands of phones. So there is still that money as your initial investment and the return is not that good.

It's pretty much the same as picoin, which mineable through your phone. Don't be fallen to this hype bro. Your phone can be burned someday, and there's no guarantee the airdrop will be worthy with your effort. you farm it so hard, but yapper who is the one to receive bigger reward than you.

Just use your logic mining with your phone won't give you like hundreds bucks. you may be only able to get two figures only as the maximum price for your effort.

People who wasted their energy through this crap phone mining are worthy enough to be called as dumb people. They were getting fooled by the developers behind it.

The only coin give profit for what so called mining is Pi coin, but don't get deceive on it since what they do its not like those traditional mining that you think since you need to do something to generate some results on their app.

But others? I think they are just offer fake promises to their prospects and they are just trying to sell the idea of its easy to mind in their phones while in reality its not.

You cannot mine bitcoin with phone. You can mine some tokens on phone, through their airdrops but does it worth your time, money and energy.. NO. If you even mine PI coin with uout phone to me it's useless because the faith of your mined PI is in the hands of the community to release it for you or not.

Mobile devices aren't designed to mine any coins here in the crypto space, OP, and if there's anything that has done it, others would mention Pi coin which mines its own coin.
But the question is, up until now, is it still mining on anyone's mobile device?

Technically your smart phone is a computer itself nowadays with processing power that can be used to perform heavy computation (like the games you play on your phone that are having increasingly better graphics).

But in my opinion the real question is not whether you can mine on your phone but about whether you should. Your phone is not designed to perform heavy computation for long periods of time. It heats up, your battery drains fast and the lifespan of your device may be reduced significantly. The cost versus benefit is not good enough to make it a wise decision to attempt such things using your phone.

Ask yourself, how many of the crypto you mined on phone are successful today and you will be surprised to know that the ratio is like 1:100. This simply mean that it is all hype and nothing more. After the success of NOT and few others, every other thing that followed turned out to be garbage including Pi that was so hyped. Such offers belong to the micro earnings niche of this industry. Nobody is going to make a considerable amount of money this way. In the best of the scenarios, you are going to make only dust of crypto by mining through your smartphone.

In my opinion, it doesn't worth in anyways, because you are being paid in unknown altcoins. These tokens have no value. It's different from the early days when micro earnings industry paid in BTC currency, so even if you were earning dust of satoshis, it was still better, because you knew to be paid in a solid, strong and trustable cryptocurrency.

Be careful with mining apps, because besides not being paid, you can also have your device infected, personal data stolen and even face a physical damage on your device.

You should know that mobile phone mining is just hype, around ending of last year, and earlier this year, there was hype on telegram mining games, people were mining on telegram, some people were playing games and generating coins, but immediately the hype dies down, you won’t even hear anything about those coins again.

Some of those telegram coins got listed, and some scammed their users, they didn’t list, and even the ones which got listed, some of them are dead already, and some of them their price crashed so hard. Since the hype has died down, those coins that pumped during the hype are also going down with the type. If you hear anything like mining with your phone, then don’t always expect anything from the project.

Perhaps we should listen to the seniors above, as they've tried to explain the conditions and realities to you. Even if there's a seemingly legitimate offer to download and run, it's best to ignore it. However, if you're curious and want to try it, it's perfectly acceptable to test its viability.

I think this all started with a project electroneum that also had its launching in the forum. And that's why I think that many projects that have seen its sort of success, they can use it as a hype to make people believe that they can mine their phones for crypto. But it's not real and they're only using it with some graphical display and they're not truly giving the essence of mining for them. For the experience, it's good for the ones who want to try it.

Mining through phone is just dumb honestly. Phone isn't made for intensive task such as mining that need continous compute, even miners with GPU compensate with industrial air conditioner and advanced cooling.
A phone with no passive cooling let alone active cooling, running on a chipset that's more of a burst computing for short period of time rather than continous computing like a true mining rig. Just feels so wrong.

Good understanding. I see you understand a bit about mining. From what I've read above, I understand that a phone, whether it's an older or a newer generation, requires a lot of battery power for mining.

I think you're trying to direct readers to learn about the mining apps you mentioned above. But remember, there are many other ways to make money in the cryptocurrency market besides this process, and it's very easy for those who understand and understand the direction they're going.

You have put the question into a perspective to make it clearer for anybody that wants to attempt mining on their phones, it is not whether you can mine on your phone but whether you should. Even if you can mine on your phone is not designed for heavy computation, it can heat up and drain battery life which will surely affect the lifespan of the phone. It shows that it is not cost effective to consider mining on phones which are not specifically designed for such purposes. Phone power has minimal capacity for mining so it is not a good idea for the safety of your phone.

Considering that Bitcoin uses proof of work, we cannot mine it by phone except we set up a mining rig for it, which could be quite demanding for us, as for other cryptocurrencies, they uses proof of stake for their mining, so I wouldn't know if they actually require mining their own coins on a phone, the ones inside of are not that legit, cloud mining, which they often failed to reward for their mining as they used phone for that.

Thank you for the explanation and advice, I completely understnd your point about being cautious with these so called mining apps. I haven not heard of the token key one before, but i will check it out just to understand how it works, not to invest or expect any profit.

I also agree with the seniors points most of these mobile mining projects are more about promotion than real blockchain mining. Still it is good to experiment carefully and learn from the experience. I appreciate your input, it helps a lot.

I think the time to mine real crypto on phone has past, that was in the early days of Bitcoin when a lot was not required to mine a block. What they call mining now are not what we used to know as mining because it has gone to helping the creators of those schemes build social media accounts and playing games in exchange for cryptocurrency that may not even be listed in exchange. I remember wasting my time in Hamster and got worthless token after many months of doing what they said was mining.
