Years back,we have witnessed some presidents/ heads of state of government stayed above the stipulated tenure of there offices.it occurred mostly during military governments era which was prevalent at the period .in these 21th century, the case of military take over of government have drastically reduced if not completely eradicated over the world paving a way for Democratically elected governments whose terms of office are either pegged for four years or five years as the case maybe. He or she can stand the chance for re-election for second terms of office which will be determined by his leadership qualities, good reforms and policies and masses happily endorsed him or her by casting there votes massively for the re-election.automatically that will be the final terms of office no matter the quality of his leadership.
It baffles me the reason 92 years Paul Biya, the incumbent president of Cameroon got elected for his 8th tenures in office which has triggered a political turmoil in the country.

It's true that most countries have two term of 4-5 years to be in office if elected into a public office, but I noticed that Cameroon has 7 years for each tenure, which makes it 14 years if you were to be elected the second time. The case of Pual Biya seems different and I really don't know what is going on over there. I think he has been in power since 1982 and I don't understand how that is possible. I think I will take out time to go read more about him to understand how that is possible for him to be in power for that long. My opinion on him is that he is a very greedy person and he has refuse to leave power which causing a lot of issues in the country right now and I don't even think he really cares about what is going on in the country.

Now, actually, it's the 21st century, and you're writing about the 25th century.

This case of long stay in power is a big problem in most countries of today and the issue is that during this long time in power, those presidents build both the legislature and the judiciary in their favour making it very difficult to displace them easily from office. Ever since I was younger I have always heard that the name of the cameroun president is Paul Biya. At a time I started wondering why he has been the only name I hear as the president of the country and sometimes too I doubt if I'm correct about the information or whether he has already handed over power. Until recently, I noticed he was seeking re-election and I started wondering why he wants a re-election at 92. This made me want to know who this Paul Biya actually is and also realised that Cameron makes use of a unitary presidential republican system of government from my research by the ruling party which also kept the party in power over the years. Libya has always had the issue until 2011 when the country was forced out of an Authoritarian system of government through the US intervention leading to the overthrow of President Muamur Gaddafi. I think the masses has a role to play when it comes to revolution. Most of the power mongers won't easily give out power until the masses stand up against it. Paul Biya's re-election is another big hit to democracy following series of reports of election malpractices. However, 43 years gone. Until their system of governance is amended, he may still lead up to 60 years in power if life permits him.

How do you mean?
Go and correct the original post. It should be the 21st century and not the 25th century. Libya has always had the issue until 2011 when the country was forced out of an Authoritarian system of government through the US intervention leading to the overthrow of President Muamur Gaddafi.
I don't care about how long a leader rules a country. My focus is government ensuring that the people enjoy a high standard and that their human rights are upheld in the country. Muammar Gaddafi ensured that Libyans enjoyed the best standard of living. Libyans were living better than most European citizens. In the case of Paul Biya, Cameroon is a backward, poor, underdeveloped and corrupt country. He deserves to be booted out of power.

The people are the ones that have voted in their leaders into power, so their voices should be heard when in unity and if they all come out to demand for what they want, it also depends on the kind of leadership they practice in such country, but on a sincere ground, people have been tired to an extent over a prolonged leadership tenure, while in many countries.
They have change in power after every four years or the current leader go back for the second tenure which is the last one, they those that had a life long kind of leadership thinks they needed a change, then they can begin to fight it as a right to express what they wanted through peaceful protest and engage the social media for the world intervention.

It could be understandable if a president that has already ruled for 41 years is the people's favorite and they want him to continue, political analysts from other parts of the world can make an exception. But when the electorates are tired of their leader and they don't vote for him to continue in office but somehow elections are rigged then it's a slap on democracy. It is sad that most of these countries that have dictators are very impoverished, corruption will be the order of the day in such regims, the leaders will not want to relinquish power so they won't be probed. The way out for countries like that is for them to have a revolution otherwise there is no hope for them, if the dictator dies his son or corrupt associates will take over and rule for life.

It can only be before but will hardly happen on this time because whenever a president have stayed the way he or she is supposed to by the law, there is no way they would give him another year or few. Military rules is something that doesn't happen commonly and whenever they take power you wouldn't see any president that would be ruling the country other than the military, in my country the only sector that allows civilian in the office are state governors while the the federal is taking over by the military. Perhaps is Cameroon system of government that permit them to come back and contest for an elections as many times they want after ruling so that is why he could have ruled this much because he wouldn't be contesting all the time if it was twice to rule in that country.

It's really surprising in this 21st century that democracy has covered everywhere around the world, but still yet someone will still hold power for that long as if it's like a family business. You see when or during the military regime there is nothing like election they just rule as they like. Now we're in a democratic system of government where the voice of the people are suppose to be heard, president rule for 4 or 5 years and if his government is good for the people they will vote him again and after the person has completed it's ruling you step down for another. In the case of this Ghanaian president Paul biya it's a suprise to all because as a 92 years old that will be resting at home will still have the intention of contesting for an election, turning leadership as a family business or something. I'm saying that let there be a change, real one at that and not someone that has turn leadership to life time business or till he dies.

honestly all this leaders who stay too long in power just weaken democracy instead of strengthening it when one person rules for decades it just limits new ideas, accountability and fair competition. Paul Biya’s case in Cameroon is a clear & perfect example ! at 92 and still in power for the 8th term it raises serious questions about democracy and leadership renewal in Africa at large not just his country. Power should not be a lifetime position true leadership is about building systems that can survive beyond one person. african nations really need stronger institutions that make it impossible for leaders to manipulate constitutions or elections just to stay longer in office

My brother, the issue of Paul Biya is one of the clearest examples of how power can indeed corrupt a person, a people and a nation if there are no serious institutions to check it and to reconfirmed what you said the man has actually done roughly over 40 years in power since 1982 and you would not even call this by luck, he has actually built the system and the institutions around himself where loyalty has been made far more stronger than competence and the election of the country, designed in a manner at which you can say it is just a formality to continue to legitimize his continously stay in power and rulership.

The problem is not how long they have spent in power but what they have achieved during their time in power, if the so called leaders have the interest of the people at heart then that's fine but they are wicked, corrupt and mean no good to the people they are leading this is common in Africa their leaders are too old and wicked they need to leave the seat for the younger generations. Imagine a 92 years old person leading a full nation when he's supposed to be in elderly people's home being taking care of by others but he's still in power looting the treasures of the country to his next generation this is unfortunate.

When I read this post, I unconsciously remembered Russian President Putin and Chinese leader, if we look at the history of their rule, both have ruled their countries since 2012. While in many countries, presidential elections are usually held every four years. But when you look at Russia and China, from the perspective of the people, they are the pride of the country. So why is there less dictatorship in these countries and these two countries are making progress every day? Is there military rule in these countries? Recently, when Trump threatened China, you saw how they agreed on everything. As long as there is no corruption and dictatorship, the length of the government is not a problem. Many countries that have a four-year presidential term and know that their time is short, they commit all kinds of corruption as much as they can.

There restless feet will one day stuck into a snake pit, using the military to attack innocent protesters is very bad, though I also understand the aspect that things used to got escalated from a peaceful protest to crisis and taken violence and rebellion against the government, but still yet, the police are not expected to shoot, instead try to scare the people away, while the zombie military should also apply their sense when sent on an errand of no return.
