I had a truly alarming sight on my way home recently. I saw a guy actually placing bets on his phone while driving down the road. He was totally distracted, glued to his screen instead of the traffic ahead.

This is a massive safety hazard for everyone.It's not just reckless to me, it's a flashing red sign of addiction. A responsible, gambler knows the road demands 100% focus. If you can't wait until you're safely parked to place a bet, the compulsion is clearly overriding common sense and safety. That's a serious problem.

Gambling should be reserved for your downtime. If you absolutely must place a bet before you reach your destination, the only responsible choice is to pull over and park by the roadside until you're done.

I have not even done it before, when I am driving. I will not let anything to distract me while driving. I do not understand what could have made the person to bet while driving because I am not pressing my phone while driving, so there is no way I will know that I should bet or not bet while driving.

This is carelessness, there's no other justification for it apart from addiction and carelessness. Addiction since he cannot do without gambling at that point in time and carelessness since even if he wanted not to miss a bet, he would've calmly packed his car along the road and fulfill his gambling desire before continuing his ride.

This isn't applicable to only gambling, I've been offered a lift by a military man and I observed he was on video call with his wife. At some point I couldn't bear the unnecessary maneuvers along the way and I had to tell him I've reached my destination so I can drop off. I just learned two weeks later that he was involved in a terrible accident, although he survived.

This is a big problem many face ,many who actually want to know how betting platforms goes when they know how it goes this just one of the problem, asurming a car heat him they will blame the government of it ,but everything shouldn't be on the government but people ,how can a matured fellow be doing that on the road,this is ridiculous,he knows how to gamble but the sense of knowledge is lost ,not many that gamble responsibly as they said it ,that is why many lost their slips ,you need to relax why betting to focus not possiblelly on the road,may God help the brainless.

Even without anyone gambling it is enough of a traffic hazard the fact that people talk to the phone or text through it while they are driving. Where I live the number of accidents is always in the increase and the number one reason is the use of phone while people drive. When you add gambling to this it becomes enourmously dangerous as gambling raises your dopamine to levels you don't care much about where you are or what you are doing. I myself do gamble sometimes but only when I have parked somewhere waiting for my wife or someone else that I need to wait for, while driving I leave my phone in the place where it should be and don't touch it at all.

I have not even done it before, when I am driving. I will not let anything to distract me while driving. I do not understand what could have made the person to bet while driving because I am not pressing my phone while driving, so there is no way I will know that I should bet or not bet while driving.

Such character is not found in a sane person imagine driving and gambling when he is not the only driver on the road does it mean people are more concerned about money more than stay alive and healthy, you know the value of life that's why you will not indulge in such unhealthy act that could cost someone his life. You can't be doing such things if you are not addicted to gambling that person must be addicted and probably he forgot that he was driving the best thing is to call his attention or report to the police so that he can be arrested cause if he doesn't win the bet he may lose control and everyone inside his vehicle will not be saved.

The closest thing I’ve done is listen to the play by play broadcast of the sports I have bet while driving. Betting while driving is a reckless and absurd thing to do because you can do this anytime when you are free.

You can also use the side lane shoulder to rest do your gambling business and drive again when than.

Besides, It’s very hard to do it due to the pressure of gambling and at the same time road hazard. This guy should be reported to your drivers license agency.

We all know that ignorance to the law is not an excuse, even where we don't know what the law says, we can't be exonerated. I don't know if there is a country that allows a driver to be careless without adequate punishment if they contravene the law. To pack your vehicle while busy with your phone is the right thing to do and have been advised, so whoever jeopardizes the life of another because of their carelessness should go in with the law whether it is gambling or making calls. I have seen people being busy with their phones in their cars without packing. They are like "a cake of gunpowder waiting to explode". If anything happens to cause the death of another in such situation of negligence, I believe the driver offender would be charged for murder or mistake and those are serious offenses. It will be mistake if the offender has a drivers licence otherwise it will be murder, and that is capital punishment that can lead to the death of the offender. So gamblers need to be careful while driver, it is not ethical to draw up bet while driving.

I gotta admit, I was guilty of this once too. I used to check my phone during stop at traffic lights while driving because I was playing slots. It really wasn’t helping, it just distracted me. After realizing that, I stopped doing it again. I also did it before with sports betting, just checking the scores to see if my bet was winning, but yeah, still a distraction.

So I hope anyone caught not paying attention to driving because of gambling gets penalized too, same way as those who drive drunk.

I remember a similar thread about a driver who gambled while driving. But the reason I remember it so well is that I already wrote my story about how I once found myself in a similar situation when I was riding in a taxi and the driver was watching a football match while driving. It was an indescribable experience; I prayed to arrive at the destination unharmed. Therefore, of course, every activity and interest requires a place and time, especially in those moments when the gambler is responsible for the safety of others.

even if he wasn't gambling it is still extremely dangerous because one shouldn't be on his phone or distracted with something else when driving we have seen many road incidents this year and it can be frustrating to see some drivers be irresponsible

i do remember there was someone who shared how he saw a jeepney driver place bets on his phone while he is driving for those who do not know jeepneys are public vehicles in the philippines used for commuting so there's a lot of passengers riding the jeepney but he was still distracted

it is not just about gambling but the fact that they are distracted while driving that is concerning

This is beyond control. Even though, pressing a phone is highly not allowed while driving, talk of placing a bet. To be honest, this is a very big offense because this shows that he didn't go through driving school, because had he done so, he would have known that taking a phone call when driving is not acceptable. Though, I don't know why most gamblers normally forget to gamble responsibly, because this habit shows irresponsibility, and even though it can lead to incidents on the way.

I’ve never seen anybody gambling whilst driving, which is really bad by the way. I used to work with a guy though who would constantly be betting on horses in the office.

He would have his internet explorer window up but small and if the boss came in, he’d quickly minimise it. My desk was behind his so I could see him doing it.

If you can’t go to work or do basic tasks without gambling then maybe you need to address it and seek help.

He might have almost missed placing a bet on the match he liked, so he forced himself to place a bet in such a situation. 
Of course, this should not be done, as it can endanger oneself as well as other road users. 
There is a possibility that the person is already addicted to sports betting, and therefore cannot manage the right time to place a bet. But we do not know the truth; hopefully, we do not witness such a thing.

Actually, he is addicted to gambling, that's why he is gambling while driving. Although I have never seen anyone gambling while driving but  I have seen some people gambling while ignoring customers in a tea shop.

A few days ago, I went to buy cigarettes in a tea shop, and I saw him gambling without paying attention to me. Because of this I went to another shop. I think he lost one of his regular customers because of this.
In my opinion, gambling should be kept in the gambling place and work should be kept in the work place. Be it driving or running a shop.

I do gamble when driving sometimes but I’m playing slot games on auto spin with music is on so that I can heard when I hit a big win or free spin.

I have a cellphone holder near the infotainment of my car that holds my cellphone so that I can easily access it to click when needed for the free spin.

It’s not distracting because I only make a glance on it when the sounds of big win occur. But this story of full attention to screen is to the max level.

How did you know it was bet that the guy was placing with his eyes glued to the phone or were you sitting inside the car with the guy that was driving? Because you can hardly notice what someone who sited in the driver seat is doing with his phone unless you are sitting directly next to him in the same vehicle. And if you were inside the car why didn't you stop him because your life is also endangered. If you were not in the vehicle, you can't really be sure it was bet he was playing while driving. Although be it gambling or not, we shouldn't be on our phone while driving, it is not a good practice.

Not only gambling, if you are driving you should stay focused on what is in front of you since you just don't know what might suddenly appear or happen on the road, because once you are distracted, you could potentially lose your life. it's best if you want to place a bet, you need to take a more appropriate time, at least put your vehicle aside first, and then you can access your account. but I think that betting is not an urgent thing, so it should be postponed or done at a safer and more appropriate moment.

You said passengers? Which means the driver was even driving a commercial vehicle with other people in it and I guess non of his passengers noticed because if it was to be me, I would give the driver a slap to reset his sense of thinking.
No matter how often one gambles, we should not risk our lives trying to gamble and every human in their right senses ought to know that, driving demands maximum attention same as gambling and we should never try to divide our attention while driving because we might simply just end up in situation worst than we can even imagine.

I do not see any justifiable reason to gamble while driving and if you must place a bet, then you should park and clear well from the road so we don’t only cause hazard for ourselves but for other motorists as well.
