It is getting close to Winter, so it is time for us to take a nice winter exercise challenge.

For the winter exercise challenge, whenever you feel a bit cold at home, you should warm yourself up by doing some exercises at home. For me, these exercises include free weights, stair climbing, lunges, squats, pushups, running, etc. You should continue to warm yourself up until you are almost to the point of sweating. Repeat these exercises whenever you feel cold.

Some additional rules for the challenge.

1. Take cold showers. Warm showers make the bathroom all wet and gross. Warm showers and the people who wake them are disgusting. Warm showers also waste energy and need to be banned.

2. Do not use indoor heating. If someone else in your household demands indoor heating, consider a breakup or disownment since this challenge is far more important than any relationship you might have.

3. If it is colder outside than inside, consider opening the windows to let the hot air out.

4. Do not wear too many layers of clothing. Wear whatever clothing you would wear in the summer except perhaps gloves for the hands.

5. These exercises are meant to supplement but not replace your normal exercises. Unless it is dangerous to go outside because you can slip on the ice, you will still need to perform your regular exercises.

6. Being obese is cheating. Don't be obese.

Disclaimer:

1. I am currently in the state of Florida. This means that this challenge is easier for me. But that does not matter because I would do this challenge even if I were far up north.

2. This is a challenge. It is not advice meant to make you healthy. Do this challenge at your own risk.

Regards,

-Joseph Van Name Ph.D.

P.S. Why should you do this challenge? There have been plane crashes and landings in the Potomac and Hudson rivers. In 1982 Lenny Skutnik jumped into the icy Potomac river during one of these crashes to save a woman who was drowning right after the plane crash. If you ever need to jump into an icy river or lake, you should be prepared to handle a bit of cold and do some physical activity.
