You know, Gambling can actually increase economic activity, jobs, tourism, casinos, sportsbooks, etc.. If it is well regulated, taxes and fees come.
And look, this is a matter of choice, an adult who understands the risks, sets limits, and sees it as a way to earn income or just fun,  that seems legitimate to me.

Yes, it has its downsides. But everything has both good and bad sides. Even a knife has two sides. so why, is anyone stopping using a knife? has anyone banned knives?

Everything has its ups and downs and yes gambling isn’t exempted in the case and the issue with banning is gambling entirely is gradually becoming a thing of the past because now the government is beginning to see things from the economic importance gambling has to play in also helping to improve its economy.

One thing I have already settled my mind with is that, gambling addiction will not be easily eradicated if at all it will ever be so and that’s why, continuous teaching and preaching against addiction is advised because a lot of gambling addicts, got addicted and are addicted unconsciously and most of them do not even know they are addicts and who do everything to always gamble even when they are making losse.

So why is it different only for gambling?

The reason why gambling is different from that knife illustration is because a lot of people even in their clear state of mind, might get addicted without knowing they are addicted(they keep playing at all cost) but no one in his clear state of mind would cut a knife through their skin without knowing(not feel the pain).

It's actually depends on how you handle it, if handled well it can benefit everyone but if you use it for your own desire, you could destroy a lot of people. As you know, what you've said are true, but it's the leader itself that is the problem, some leaders were too greedy that they ignore the downsides of the gambling. In our country (a few months back before it was banned) online gambling is everywhere, celebrities and big names are promoting it, multiple commercials and an access to online wallets where you can easily play on... the result? A lot of people in the lower to middle class workers are relying to it that results on losing their salary and destroying their families.

I even witness students playing slot games using their allowance and the government only did something recently, honestly it needs balance. The government should utilize to increase economy's income but at the same time, they should look after their people.

For ages gambling has been suffering persecution till date yet the industry has been expanding and getting more innovative, it means that more people are gambling. I don't think that it is fair for any government to ban gambling in their country because of addicts, they should also consider the responsible gamblers that knows their limits. Except for religious reasons which I cannot question I don't see a justifiable reason why a country should deny people from gambling with their money if they want to. What a government can do is have strict regulations about gambling in their country and allow people to make their own decisions. Some people like to unwind with gambling using amount that they can afford to loose, denying them the freedom to enjoy themselves should also be put into consideration.

Nice question,but I don't know where they banned gambling in Nigeria but it shouldn't be banned because in life as you said many things gave good and bad side,and you make instances on knives,knives don't pay tax but in gambling they do pay task because many invest in it as a business but knives is not business but just for kitchen, business that brings problems to a country and if the government of that country decides to stop it I don't think is wrong because he is making a way to bless his people from gambling

If there’s any form of gambling that’s illegal then it should really deserved to be banned, but I think it makes no sense trying to ban gambling when it comes to casinos betting which is very open and legal. It’s everywhere online and have its restrictions in terms of age limit which means those under the age of 18 shouldn’t be allowed to gamble. The age regulations for me, is what they should look more into and regulate properly to keep those kids under the age of 18 away from betting and gambling instead of trying to ban gambling or betting.

Not just gambling but it is in some other areas. The reason is that humans are greedy, some are more greedy in a way that gambling turn to addiction for them because they like to earn money from it. We should blame these kind of people and not gambling but anyone that know that he is getting addicted to gambling should better stop gambling or seek for rehabilitation help.

Gambling can not be banned in all countries because government are making money from it while some people will see banning gambling as the government taking freedom away from the citizens.

I don't think knives are the best example if you want to compare gambling with other regulated activities. Which percentage of the times a knife is used, it is used to harm oneself or others? a neglectable one, and it's still forbidden to handle them in airports and even in public places, depending on their size.

It would be better compared with alcohol, for example, where anyone knows the effects not only on health but in the daily life, and while in some countries it is forbidden, in most is regulated (majority of age, not driving when drunk,...). So I don't think it's worth banning it, because of what the OP said about freedom, but some regulations are necessary.

Now if gambling is banned, the government will only lose revenue. Because  now we don't need to go to a casino to gamble. We can do it online. We can participate in gambling  anytime on our mobile. So in this day and age , it is very impossible to keep people away from gambling by just making laws.
But you are right that children should be kept away from gambling. No gambling  for minors. And this should be strictly followed by gambling sites. If casinos and gambling sites follow this , then maybe many governments will be interested in legalizing gambling.
