First Month in Bitcoin: Here are the surprises I got

I've really dedicated the past one month to studying, reading, watching videos and following discussions concerning Bitcoin especially in this platform and to be honest, it's really been eye opening and very humbling. Some wrong impressions I had about Bitcoin are corrected and I feel I know more about it than I used to hear.

A few things that surprised me the most
1. The importance of security: you need to be very careful with your Bitcoin account cause your keys = your coins
2. How deep Bitcoin history goes: from Satoshi's whitepaper to forks and halving events
3. The freedom that comes with Bitcoin: no bank problems, no policy and all those shits that comes with fiat
4. And the most humbling is PATIENCE: When I found out that patience is the key in Bitcoin, I just opened my mouth and couldn't close it. Cause all these while, I thought you can just acquire a Bitcoin and boom!!!! you're a millionaire or billionaire depending on your currency but Bitcoin is not a "get rich quick" scheme and I just learned that.

I'm still learning everyday, especially since I got introduced to this platform and I'd love to hear from the older members too. What shocked you the most when you first started your Bitcoin journey?

That's good that you've realized that whoever is happy with the profits they've made from bitcoin, it didn't happened overnight. We don't know how each of us have been holding for so long and what challenges we've been through. It's not only about holding but also the other aspects and factors that we meet upon doing it. The social pressure, the emotional breakdown and mostly financial challenge that stops us from doing it. The misunderstanding of many that are not yet in it is that bitcoin is a get rich quick but it's not. Because we've been through those scams and schemes and thought by just investing alone it will grow our money automatically without facing any risk.

I'm still learning everyday, especially since I got introduced to this platform and I'd love to hear from the older members too. What shocked you the most when you first started your Bitcoin journey?

I think by investing a decade ago makes me think that there were few people that knows it. And until now, the same thing is what's on my mind although the adoption has grown, think of it that the world and its population is a lot, still few people know and own bitcoin.

The most important things are private keys. If you have private keys, you own your bitcoins. You only have private keys by using non-custodial (self-custodial) wallets.

Your "boom" made me laugh. I once thought the same thing, but it wasn't even about Bitcoin; my hopes were for other cryptocurrencies. It's good that you realized it quickly, although if you think about the idea that if everything were that simple, there would be no poor; unfortunately, that's a utopia.
Yes, patience is key now, and it's better to take small steps, investing little by little, than to stay put and wait for a miracle. Join the community; I'm sure you'll not only get help here, but you'll also become much more financially educated.

Did you ask for advice? After reading your first posts in the Nigerian section, I would advise you to never trust your device to store your information, passwords, or anything related to finances. Saving your seed phrase is especially important.

The moment I started as a newbie and after some time realized that I've turned to be an experienced member with time to an extent, what you become is predetermined by you, when you asked most of the reputed members here as well, some of them would have something to share from their experience on how they once started small and with nothing, but their commitment and hardworks really pays to what they have achieved from it today, though it may seems tough and uneasy, but I can tell that it's really worth it at last.

I think the most important thing for me here is security.  Most beginners are not informed about security; they just know that they have to buy bitcoins and wait for it to appreciate. Lack of security consciousness has made many beginners interact with scammers and lose their bitcoins to them.

Many beginners do not know that as common as charging their devices in public places or using public WiFi can put their assets at risk. How about the fake emails supposedly sent by the exchanges demanding for private details? These are very important things every newbie should take not of or they will lose all that they have worked hard for in just one day.

Bitcoin is most popular for security, if you notice then you will definitely see that security is most important to every person. Your key is your Bitcoin, the more Bitcoins there are in the wallet and the key is the owner of that Bitcoin. Currently, Bitcoin is reaching the peak of popularity, behind every reason is the demand of people for Bitcoin. The more demand there is on Bitcoin, the more valuable it will be to people.

It's not called bitcoin account but bitcoin wallet. This is why you need to use a noncustodial open source wallet where only you have the private keys. Account is for an exchange, never store your funds in an exchange.

For better security, you should buy a hardware wallet if you can avoid it. Foundation Passport is a good hardware wallet for bitcoin only. You can use Trezor wallet for bitcoin and altcoins. It's good to use hardware wallet for your huge funds and long time savings.

Interestingly enough, I have spent virtually a month in this Bitcoin investment, and as a matter of concern, I have been reading, interpreting, and as well made some posts accordingly. Consequently, this one month of experience has really helped me to understand the the following:

1. Bitcoin is real, and reliable as against my previous thought about it.
2. This awareness has really improve my reading, and writing skills.
3. Though a newbie, but I have confidence, having witness numerous investors here etc.

I didn't ony remember but I also realized how the lack of having a basic knowledge of Bitcoin and the crypto space can mess someone up if they go into it, oh! How time travels, I was also like that years ago, having no basic knowledge, I thought crypto can make me the billionaire I dream of becoming, but being on this forum helped me in my growth process and so many other human factor that guided me as I become grounded in the basic knowledge I need. @OP, you are not done learning, continue learning for there are also the technical aspects of Bitcoin and there's no limit to the knowledge you want. Like other people already said, your security is your private key, you must not joke with it to avoid being in a bad and unrecoverable lose. If you lose your Bitcoin to scammers, it's not coming back to you, so you have to protect yourself and your Bitcoin.
