What's the state of Testnet3? How do we get more of those Coins for testing?

I've built a bitcoin app that I would like to test. I've gone through the faucets that I can find and have been collecting some coins. Unfortunately, the testnet3 transaction fees seem to be high, so i'm limited in my testing? How can I go about getting some more testnet3 coins. I understand the community's desire to keep these coins worthless so Im not looking to pay for them. Would love to hear your thoughts on the state of testnet? I remember see users here in the forum lending some testnet coins from users who collected significant amount of them. After completing testing, the user should send them back to the lender who will keep lending them for free. I guess the amount will depend on your trust history in the forum. Since you are a newbie, don't expect to get a large amount. You can ask for lenders in the Services board or in the Beginners & Help board.

Those coins should stay used for free, for testing purposes only. Thank you so much as you encourage not to trade them whatever the how important the need for them.

Testnet coin used to be given free of charge in this forum and many other places I know but with time people started to abuse them by selling them without returning to them after use. This is why most of those services where testnet coins were given freely were shutdown. Your best option is to use what coupable said which is to ask for it in the boards he specified, maybe you will see someone that will be kind to give you some.

It would be better if you mention the site you built in order to increase the chance for people to give the testnet to you, some people need evidence if you really use it for testing purpose.

These test coins are often called tBTC for Bitcoin Testnet and while you apply a Testnet Faucet you would get only small amounts of test coins for free. These coins are strictly for testing purposes and have no real world value as you know, so it would make sense if only the developer service board option would help with advanced developers knowledge on this subject of interest.

Seeing you already have a Testnet Wallet Address, try to visit a faucet on any of the Testnet faucet websites and enter your address. The last step would be to request coins and be patient to get it because it may take up to 24hours, also depending on the network congestion at the time.

I have my testnet wallet, not sure if i currently have any left tBTC inside it, your reason for needing the testnet coins should be more clear, how come you've used up all you've gotten from different faucets.

By any chances, if i'm allowed to take from faucet and give to you isn't considered as doing something wrong, i may consider but you should know to return it, i will allow someone to say something about it before considering.

You can buy them all day long on the altquick exchange for about 200 sats per TN3 coin.  But also because of this you probably can't expect any significant handouts anymore.

I don't have spare testnet3 coin, but you should consider using either testnet4, signet or running your own regtest network? Last time i tried, it's easier to obtain testnet4/signet coin from faucet compared with testnet3. regtest is also good alternative if you don't need interaction with other node.

Why testnet3, though? Block rewards have dropped to near zero, and it might soon be abandoned by Bitcoin Core. Testnet4 solves the mining vulnerability that went the network decades into the future, and I'm sure you can get dozens a lot easier than in testnet3.

Checking on Altquick, it's also cheaper than testnet3 for some reason.

Testing with your real bitcoin, you must be kidding. Any mistake made will lead to loss of coin forever which is the main reason why testnet coin is best.

I also wondered about that. My best guess is his tool configured or only works for testnet3.

It's a shame, you could have run your own regtest or signet network[1] instead. While these days you could make TX with 0.1 sat/vB, the cost could accurate faster than you think.

I agree. You can't know what will happen with your coin in any app that is up to tests and scenarios to go through.

And I wonder what is OP's app or service, but that's another story

1. Try other faucets: Check out faucets like testnet-faucet.com or bitcoinfaucet.uo1.net. Some may have different limits or release coins in intervals.


2. Ask the community: You can also get coins from other developers. Since you’ve shared your address, someone might send you some.


3. Mine your own coins: If you set up your own Testnet node, you can mine unlimited coins for testing.

1. Op is looking for a large number of tbtc so he has to spend a long time collecting them from faucets. He already knows about this option.

2. Same reason as suggestion one. Community can't help with tons of tbtc unless he is a trusted user. His best option is to introduce his project to the community.

Just want to say thank you. Some friendly stranger sent me a whole 1 tBTC! and few others funded some more coins! I will be sure to pay back the favour in due time.

As for my project, its honestly just a little learning project on for my own curiosity. I am playing around bip 44 derivation paths where a "partner" can sign up and be assigned his personal xpub. This would derive all their different addresses for their different needs. The whole purpose is to prove out and test different use cases with different derivation paths.

I saw your other threads about that project with non-standard derivation path.
Since it's for learning purposes only, there shouldn't be any issues with it.

However, if you're planning to make a similar project with real Bitcoins, you must stick to the standards.
Check the list of BIPs and see if there's something that fits your project; if none, you may propose one (refer to BIP02).

BTW, I tried to send you a small amount with 0.2sat/vB txfee, a few nodes relayed it, but it got dropped after a few weeks.
Funny thing is, that should've worked if it's in mainnet where nodes are usually more strict, some node owners and miners must have abandoned testnet3 already.

To get testnet BTC, you can request it in one of the threads in this section bros. I've seen a few, but I only found 1 thread recently:

@OP mentioned in his thread that the minimum requester rank is Member, but I think there's no harm in trying to contact him & explain why you need the testnet BTC. Additionally, the testnet BTC that a requester can get is 1, no more than that. 1 is more than enough I think for just testing purposes.
