New emails from the Epstein Estate, released this week by the House Oversight Committee, reveal that the financier and convicted sex-offender Jeffrey Epstein assisted MIT Media Lab Director Joichi Ito in the funding of MIT’s Digital Currency Initiative, and that at least some of the funding was directed towards Bitcoin Core development.

Even if he was found to being a contributor to the development of Bitcoin Core himself.  Serious question.  Is a good contribution brought by a bad person to the code supposed to be denied and ignored only because the person was bad?

MIT Media Lab only funds a small number of developers. Epstein was friends with and associated with many high profile people. He donated money to many causes to gain favor with powerful people. Bitcoin can’t prevent bad people from supporting it, even in a minor way. There are much more important things which the media should be focusing on, in relation to Epstein, than trying to attack Bitcoin.

Epstein's impact was limited strictly to financial support, which might have benefited a few people personally, but it had no influence over development. The bigger story is the prime ministers, presidents and other politicians who knew about the trafficking and still chose to be involved with him, with some even being directly implicated in his crimes.

Frankly speaking, there are a few points, which should be considered separately here. This will certainly be used to portray a negative image of Bitcoin in the media, who will always seek to attach some form of crime to Bitcoin. This is their old pattern. However, the actual question on this is how rational it is to directly correlate the development of Bitcoin core with the studies or work that MIT donated to at that point. In large institutions the donations usually originate in various ways and the recipient will be quite unaware of the complete history of the donor.

The other thing is that the association of bitcoin with such events changes the primary focus in the wrong direction. The past activity of any individual does not determine the birth, growth or worth of the technology. The truth of open source projects is that it is not the contribution of an individual.
Personally, I think that such news will be utilised by the media to instil fear yet its influence is minimal. The history of Bitcoin is full of these events which were later proved to be misunderstood. There is therefore no need to panic but the information should be checked with a calm mind.

What I am reading about this is also how Trump might be linked with the Epstein case but Trump said he has nothing to hide, that Republicans can vote to release Epstein file.

With all I have been reading about Epstein case, I do not see how these should be linked with bitcoin. If bitcoin fall, not because it has anything to do with this.

We can't control the lives of individuals involved in Bitcoin core development, and they could be involved in scandals or other criminal activities. While that's unfortunate, I don't think it's something to make a big deal out of, as it has nothing to do with the integrity of the Bitcoin protocol itself.

I can say that Epstein may have sought to gain influence or connections with certain individuals, but the Bitcoin system isn't dependent on any one person or group. It's much larger than that, and the impact of any one individual cannot be attributed to Bitcoin as a whole.

Epstein was known to be very close to the MIT, but I doubt he cared about Bitcoin at all.

This is a classic example of writing misleading narratives where the objective is to try to convince the readers into believing some interpretation of the story that's much different from reality.

In my opinion, we return to the question of the free circulation of money. In my view, money must circulate freely. Financial flows cannot be immoral or criminal. It's people who are immoral and criminal, not money (money is just an abstraction).

The assumption that financial flows cannot be immoral or criminal implies that compliance procedures, anti-money laundering (AML) procedures, and so on are completely meaningless. Therefore, it is completely irrelevant whether he financed Bitcoin Core or any other company. In any case, only specific individuals, not companies or the money associated with them, can be guilty of crimes against individuals. 🎯 It is possible that the underlying motive behind this entire scandal is the goal of discrediting Bitcoin. To be honest I did not even realize the Bitcoin price fell around this exact time.  I really believe it is only a coincidence.  And what can I say, people who know no thing about Bitcoin can not wait to read the latest negative news so they can spam all the comment sections about how intelligent they are.  And they will do the exact same thing after the next Bitcoin Bull run.
