The media as a watchdog to the society

The media is believed to be the hope of the common masses. Looking at the media, we know that the primary duties of the media is to create awareness on happenings around the world. High-lighting essential and sensitive matters and also informing and educating the society about the outbreak of pandemic, epidemic and hazardous phenomenon. The media always connects the government to the society, it is seen as a watchdog to the society by check mating the activities of the government. Some criticisms are raised by some individuals against the media, alleged that the media are being influenced by the government. As a member of a society this calls for concern! And I would like us to bring in our individual opinion.
1. Is it 100% true as some allegedly said?
2. Is it proper that the media is influenced by the government?
