One business strategy is seeing what's usually trending or popular among the masses and build products around it. For example, the young people seem to be enjoying matcha more and more these days promoting it as a lifestyle. Hence why we see more and more coffee shops offering matcha drinks. People incorporating matcha into their food menus as creatively as they can.

Now I ask what kind of businesses do not need to follow a trend because they are always on trend? An example would be supermarkets. People always need food. Food will never go out of trend so it can be a good business. A laundry shop is another example. People wear clothes and dirty laundry always exist which is why people will always look for laundry shops. What other businesses can you think of that people will always need?

As a good business and entrepreneur person, you don't need to trends otherwise, you will just end up in an unnecessary market competition that you don't have clues of how to attract customers or how to manage the business.
The right format is to consider a business you have and ideal of how to run it, the area to set it up and know what the people in the vicinities lacks.
You must also have good marketing skills in other to exploit.
Following trends never the best but it is as good as when it is trending, you should be among the first so that you can earlier lay good foundation that would to be earlier committed with customers and make hay to be creative in other to stay trending because, trends usually fades when there are no more new ideals to keep it going.

Business Models that has to do with long term problem solving are usually and mostly not timely or following with trends as you said, if you have a business model that is based on problem solving, one in which you found common or peculiar to a certain society and you see that your business will be an offer of permanent solution, you establish a business that is there for them to meet these needs daily and solve the challenge they would have had arising from this need, that will definitely get you incorporated into their routine daily and you see that you didn't just get some random trendy business but a solution that even others may copy in the long run to become solution providers around that region, the challenge with such business model is that they are mostly limited to the are of which the problem they are offering solution to is localized because not all regions suffer same problems.

A restaurant, Laundry and coffee shop as mentioned in your post are really smart solution providers, i will want to add that if you can incorporate door step delivery, that will be a bonus as almost everyone even the middle class wants to get things brought to them and them having to go find services, everyone literally wants things in a way that will make life a bit easy, so if you can ease them so forms of stress they most likely will be willing to pay to take that burden off their shoulders. You can go ahead and look at the tech space, spot challenges and try becoming a solution provider and you will be in business as long as the problem exist and as long as they want to attempt preventing such problem from arising again.

There's plenty of businesses that "buck the trend" or basically ignore it, or others that might try to capitalize on it in small ways. Just think of a company that produces toilet rolls or toothpaste. If they've established a good reputation the probably won't feel the need to improve or change the product much, as it just does the job. However they might add some "we use sustainable paper". It seems like the latest trend for food is to have protein somewhere on the label, but that actually turns me off buying it strangely enough.

Always on trend can be interpreted in multiple ways. If someone is creating a new product and that is probably his only product then it is not good to have such idea because when you are making it successful there will be a new trend and there will be a new product so you will never become sustainable with such strategy.

Nothing is always on trend because "need" itself is historically contingent. Any item that fails under the category of the things that are needed for daily survival can serve as a medium through which businesses are built around and it continues to last long regardless of the season. the challenges that is associated with building a business around things that are trending is that the trend last for a while afterwards it comes down and then it becomes easy for you to go out of market if there is no solid plan in place.

take for instance, we are in the festive period and there are a lot of things that moves market but then, it only moves market temporary. after this season, those going into such things will have no choice other than choosing another line of business. know this fact, there is still a way of doing business that is not a respecter of seasons and at the same time going into seasonal business once they present themselves.

Educational services like teaching and day care will always be relevant.  So one could start a school or a daycare centre that will offer educational services. The curriculum or syllabus could be changed periodically, and teachers will always get used to the new scheme.

Hospitality businesses like hotels and apartments will always be needed. People will always demand accommodation and other related services. All you need to do is always upgrade the facilities and offer quality services.

I think op is not referring to market competition or anything related to competition rather taking advantage of these trend in order to earn better profit else thinking outside the box might not earn a good income compared to the needful business choice. Everyone ought to understand first the basic business choice needed in the location for example not every trend can be 100% supportive definitely different location with a different business choice for example op mentioned supermarket and let’s assume the site is located in a rural area, I doubt if the profit earn will be same compared to those living in the urban center. Trends come and go, often quickly. If you hop into it with a business in mind, just make sure you can recover your starting investment before the trend loses popularity. Or, better yet, make sure yours will continue thriving despite the trend dying. Here in my city, many joined the matcha, milk tea, coffee bandwagon. Many lost money in the process. Its height was the pandemic. It gradually lost its hype post-pandemic.

Nope supermarket isn't an always on trend business, if the producers can distribute directly to the consumers, they don't need supermarket (distributors).

Always on trend businesses: real estates, farm, limited resources, and health. These businesses almost have no way to replace them or they're the first hand suppliers, so many people are completely depends on them.

Now I ask what kind of businesses do not need to follow a trend because they are always on trend? An example would be supermarkets. People always need food. As a good business and entrepreneur person, you don't need to trends otherwise, you will just end up in an unnecessary market competition that you don't have clues of how to attract customers or how to manage the business.
The right format is to consider a business you have and ideal of how to run it, the area to set it up and know what the people in the vicinities lacks.
You must also have good marketing skills in other to exploit.
Following trends never the best but it is as good as when it is trending, you should be among the first so that you can earlier lay good foundation that would to be earlier committed with customers and make hay to be creative in other to stay trending because, trends usually fades when there are no more new ideals to keep it going.
Sometimes starting a business that meets the exact need of a particular population will need lots of marketing strategies before the targeted audience even realizes the need of your commodities. Although if they eventually do the returns are always massive but trending business most times don't need that pronounced advert to make to grow because the population are already familiar with the product, it might only require proper visibility. I think both ways work it only depends on the approach deployed.

Food or clothes laundry is not a trend because i think these are daily needs which every people will need that and in my country there are plenty of the bussiness like this even it was dominated by big companies and if you were want to starting new bussiness and entering those industry i think you should be ready to compete against big companies which the risk is your bussiness will go bankrupt

Laundry shops simply do not exist in my country. Everyone has a washing machine where I live.
Perhaps the term "evergreen businesses" is more on point than "always on trend". Trends come and go, no trend can last forever.
Drinking matcha is a trend and it will go away. Everything around food and clothing would fit into the evergreen business category. The problem is that those niches are extremely competitive. Small businesses like dentists, plumbers, auto repair and house repair would never run out of customers. If something has to be fixed, someone would be willing to pay money for this. There would always be demand for people, who can fix broken stuff and solve problems.

Following Trends = fast rise fast sink. In my experience in business, especially in urban consumer markets, trends are often false signals for business prospects. Virality often creates a red ocean (thin margins, low differentiation, and vulnerability to defeat by more capitalized players). Don't forget the current VUCA environment: trends change rapidly, consumer preferences are unstable, behavior is difficult to predict, and many market signals are unclear. So without specialization as a core strength, following trends is akin to gambling. My principle is that adaptability, efficiency, and clear value are far more decisive for survival than the latest hyped product.

Specialization = Branding Foundation = Business Resilience requires a branding foundation: specialization. Those with a clear positioning, building brand equity from unique value, focusing on serving recurring segments, consistent quality, and differentiation will survive because specialization creates brand memory, trust, and generates repeat orders, creating barriers to entry, making it difficult for competitors to copy. Even in the VUCA era, people still seek reliability and consistency, not just the latest trends. (My own experience with my young daughter building a small food business)

Those with sufficient energy, courage, and capital can build businesses that serve basic needs, recurring habits, and infrastructure functions because these are businesses that are always needed without following trends. In times of economic turmoil, businesses with basic needs and essential services tend to grow steadily, even when hyped businesses collapse. In a VUCA world, it's not the type of business that determines survival, but rather clear positioning, specialization, streamlined operations, and a consistent brand.
