The process was random memehunter. I was going to close the deal with 3 spots 100 > 50 > 25 usd but then it strike me, "why not add one more spot and make the prize 50 merits?"

I don't think there's any harm in it... If he finds the 4th best price prediction in his contest to be "helpful" and 50-merit worthy, then so be it.

And to worry about the font sizes he used is pretty inquisitional.

Basically it seems like he wanted to do something good and he's putting his own money on the line (at least thats how it appears), so I don't really see a problem here. I'd be more worried about alt accounts trying to take advantage of the prize money, but that's just me, and its why I don't run contests.

If mrust doesn't want his merit tarrif to appear high in currency terms, he should calculate it that way.
Imagine (the final (unilaterally) agreed merit tarriff is 18%):
$24.9 * 18% = ~$4.48

or if 50 merits count as more than the 1st reward value
$100.1 * 18% = ~$18.02

To be able to give away 50 merits, you need to earn 100 merits beforehand, right? It's just my opinion, but I personally think that if someone was making such quality posts that they earned 100 merits, although they can't do whatever they want with them, they definitely have the right to give them away in the New Year Price Prediction Game they're running.

IMO, Not if you are a merit source and bear some responsibility of meriting worthy posts instead of hosting merit giveaways in random ways as per your wish. I have no objection that he hosted it with his secondary account so that he can boost that account as well with this.

So, you agree that in order to earn merits quality posts are required. Maybe that is precisely why we don't see merit giveaways too often, because when you earn something through some efforts you understand the importance.

I wouldn't have known there's an event like this is ongoing if not for this topic.
I don't see anything bad about the option provided in the event, and I believe I once saw a topic created by user Nutildah where he gave people 25 merits or so for a certain task (which I don't remember correctly) when I was going through this forum.
What I don't like about the event is the chance of people like myself participating since it been a while since I have been stuck in this member rank despite trying my best to make good contributions and good posts or did I misunderstand the rule of 50 merit requirement since  Mrust_mobile never added if it's merit earned in the last 150days.

Look, I don't know anything about this, if that's true, maybe you are right in a way. I just think that if someone is willing to give away $175 of his own money and 50 merits in a Christmas giveaway, he should be praised for that, not criticised.

If there is no this thread maybe I also don't know there is an interesting contest in predicting bitcoin, instead of getting prizes from correct predictions in 1-2-3 and 4 50 merits that are discussed and questioned, this is good, at least he wants to make something new, test analysts and bitcoin price predictors.

This is very random, and the rules are clear, so this is very legitimate, just like other contests that use merits as prizes, this is much better than the merit help thread, although the number is still too much, maybe it should be more modest under 20 merits.

A 50 merit offer is preferable than $25, but that’s op decision, in every contest people offer what they can be able to deliver, maybe the 50 merit will be easier to deliver than $.

But the thing I'm seeing there is that his offers in that contest is expensive it would have reduced the offer in a way that it will be less easier to deliver, I many say in bitcoin price contest, this particular one you quoted op, is the highest in price I have encountered, maybe as I don't partake on contest regular.

I know, mate, you aren't talking about tag; you want discussion. I have also mentioned the previous discussion by theymos where he have been talking with a merit source. This means it should be applicable for general users as well, because theymos is more strict about the source's merit than general users. Users got merits either from Airdrop or earning, but merit sources have an allocation every month from the forum.

However, though it doesn't look good to give away such a large amount of merit, I don't think it's a punishable offence. At least merit circulation is increasing over the forum.

I will assume that mindrust didn't want to give a money price to the 4th winner that's why he just decided to add 50 merit as the price. He must have thought about it that merit system doesn't have any official rules of how it can be spent, the only rule is for members not to merit their alt.  Think of it this way, his 50 merit reward is going to go to a random person who falls In that 4th position and mindrust might not even know the user. I don't think that's a problem, no?

There's also no forum rules that kicked against merit reward in a prediction contest, does that not mean that it's allowed?

I know you can send merit to whomever you want, but this way? @mrust_mobile, so in your opinion 50 merits have less worth then $25, not to mention that equating merits directly with money should not be allowed in any way, apart from eligibility through normal forum requirements. It is not about the difficulty level it is about how much effort one should put in order to be eligible.
BTW, you might be right about my math aptitude, but I think I can calculate that you still need 21 merits to rank up right? Congratulation in advance, hope you will get it soon through this type  indirect merit phishing (taking advantage of being a merit source).

No one can ever guarantee their prediction. So winning a reward by making a prediction means winning by luck. I am not saying why you are giving merit as a reward, there are still some contests in this forum where merit is being given as a reward. However, you have made a reward calculation that is reducing the value of the merit system. Where the 3rd prize is $25, the 4th prize is 50 merits, then you are setting the value of each merit less than $0.5, which calls into question your activity.

Yes I did do that, I gave away a lot more merits than that to several accounts that were trying to rank up. Some of them turned out OK, some of them not. This was several years ago, like 2018 or 2019. I feel like the forum is plagued with a much worse alt account problem these days so I wouldn't run this contest in today's environment. (Also my thing wasn't really a contest so much as a "merit scholarship program.")

I know people just want to do something nice but it seems like any bit of goodwill exhibited here is instantly taken advantage of by people with no morals. Case in point the last pumpkin carving contest. Its not an excuse for giving up on humanity, but contest runners should be aware that such petty manipulators exist.
