I tried this on my phone and my sister's phone, this is what I got on my phone and my sister phone:



When sms is not necessary, I think Telegram only just give sms as an excuse. The second is about fake accounts which I think will be because of scammers. But scammers will always still have their ways on Telegram.

Do you think this is enough? I do not like this restrictions against Nigerians.

Initially I was shocked why only we Nigerians have to pay to open a TG but later it became clear that you mentioned Telegram Premium account, which in fact would definitely require a fee It should be known that this is a subscription-based service for which we have to pay a weekly or Monthly fee. However, if you want to open a normal Telegram, there is no fee required, because it should be understood that this is a free application.

Did I just hear you say Telegram restricting Nigerians? Because I think that's a false information, because what you just posted is a fee implemented by Telegram who people who wishes to have access to it's Premium features, such as sending messages to users who aren't on your contact list. (e.g to reduce the rate of scam on its platform).
However, Telegram is still a free app that can be download and use for your communication among friends and family members for free without paying any fee, unless if you wants it's advanced features that a fee will be required, such as unlimited storage, unlimited posting and more other features.

Telegram is not restricting only Nigerians. It is a general feature on the platform to prevent scam and grant only access to authentic and verified users.

You can try to open new Telegram account to see what I am talking about. It will be 1 week free premium account but it is now mandatory for new Telegram users from Nigeria. I also think it is also an effective means to advertise their premium service.

Have came across it too but I guess the payment is for the premium for one week.  Is like paying for a Portion of the premium package .

I won’t blame , after telegram going boom last year a lot folk had to register due to the fact that folk was literally making money from doing telegram mini app airdrops , and then a lot users had to pay for premium, to have more chances to make something good from the particular airdrop they where farming .

But now that no one is hearing about those mini app any more , a lot of telegram users are now inactive there , which means and most folk are not seeing any good reason to do telegram premium.
