Is meta the right place for this? Correct me if It is not. OK so I have been seeing few accounts on the forum painted as hacked or sold because they change password and also email account and something came to my mind instantly. This is about my own account, as you can see in the picture below I somehow ended up with a dummy email address on my account and trying to get that fixed made me realise that I will be painted as hacker too because who would believe me that I change my email and password to get rid of the dummy email address on my profile. This also got me thinking how many people on the forum have been accused wrongly for this, now tell me, what is the right procedure to go about this? Or maybe I should just focus on my present log in details to avoid wrong accusation? How to go about it, someone should lead me if they think I am wrong.

Sign a message from the btc address you used before (should be used in the forum and needs to be a fairly old one) saying you are changing your email address and you are still the original owner of the account and nothing bad will happen.

Changing the email and password alone does not mean that the account was hacked. Members who investigate hacked or bought accounts look out for other suspicious things too before tagging the account.
The challenge you will have is when you try to recover your account incase it's hacked in the future because they usual require the old email address. Perhaps signing a message from your staked btc address might be of help.

There are many people that change their email on this forum that people do not suspect that the accounts have been hacked or given to another person. Just as JeromeTash posted, other things are used before making such conclusion. It can be account just woke up from long sleep and followed by other suspicious activities like posting on a different local board or having entirely different posting styles from the original owner of the account. Also if the account is trying to scam which the old owner was not doing but reputed. Or if the account is spamming, unlike what the real owner was doing.

People write in different ways use different clauses , phrases and have varying sense of humour. All these are part of what I'll in simple terms refer to as a measuring factor that is considered before they tag an account as hacked or changed hands. Sometimes they try to scam unlike the previous owner. Sometimes other forum users may have had off forum contact with the genuine user before the hack so they could via that confirm it's a hacked one too.

Why do you think that no body would believe you? You have a reason for changing your email and password, other members normally change their password or email too and don't get accused for anything unless there's a phishing activity going on in the account. From the picture you posted, your account email is showing inactive and you need to change to a valid email address but if the security of your password is still very strong, you can just change the email without changing the password.

OP, your topic raises concern because someone might decide to take a break off the forum for years and decide to log in again which some things about their account must have changed, such as the boards they make posts often and their writing pattern. It might be mistaken for a bought account since it will appear that the account have changed hands but i think that changing of emails and passwords becomes more suspicious when it has to do with an established member, maybe from Senior Member rank upwards. Sign a message from the btc address you used before (should be used in the forum and needs to be a fairly old one) saying you are changing your email address and you are still the original owner of the account and nothing bad will happen.
What if he hasn't used any of his btc address in the forum before? and again what if he has lost access to the btc address?. Most people did not use a valid email address when opening their account just like OP, so they might want to change their email address to a valid one in case if they forget their password they can easily change to a new one.

You could stake your bitcoin address on this thread to confirm that you are the owner of the account. There has to be a series of suspicious activity on the account before it is flagged as bought or hacked. Like others have said it’s not just about the change of email address, the inactivity period of the account also matters. I think more importantly, people look out for changes in posting style and pattern.

I am just pointing out the safest way to move forward. If he didn't stake any address before then obviously he will have to just change his email, password whatever he needs to change and hope to receive no bad trust ratings from the dt. I don't know the user, and haven't inspected his actions so i don't care if his account woke up recently etc. but dt members will look for these patters and if they find anything suspicious he will receive a neutral tag at best.

You only get accused as a hacked account if your posting habit and way of posting changed or obviously posting malware links, phishing links, send multiple unsolicited messages, ask loans suddenly. That is an obvious hacked account. Regardless of that, you can just prove it if you stake address just like mentioned above.

Anyways, changing an email address and password might look a bit suspicious, but that should be the work of the DT members, they are very active in doing their findings and giving negative and positive trust to members of this forum.Hacked accounts might be very easy to identify because most hackers intentions are to cause havoc on the forum by sending unsolicited messages to users about scam projects, then while account that has changed hand can also be known easily because the way the previous user conveys he's sentence would be absolutely different from the new user.If you're actually the rightful owner of the account you can change your email address and password because they're other methods used by DT members to trace bought and hacked accounts.

It is not only the fact someone changes their password of their email account, people who tag other's accounts also keep an eye on their behavior. For example, the boards the person used before and started to participated on after the change of password, the languages which were used by the account and the languages which are used after the changes done. Obviously, if I changed my password and email out of nowhere and I started to write in Russian (something I have never done before), then it is obvious someone is using my account in my behalf and using my identity for possible nefarious intentions. If you have a signed message registered here in the forum so you can prove your identity then you should be okey, just open a thread on the Reputation section of the forum with the signed message and the new email address so people will know it is you and not other person who got your account.

That's unless their behaviours starts being...different. We've seen cases where accounts suddenly started asking for loans, participating in local boards that weren't of their country of origin etc. For instance, I believe I've also stated it before, I will never ask for a loan, I wouldn't do that under any circumstances. If for whatever reason my email and password are changed, and a loan is asked by myself, it would be fair to assume that I no longer have access to this account, doesn't matter how and why. Changing email and/or password might be suspicious in some cases, but it's not always the case. The forum displays the warning (along with woken up accounts) for a very good reason, to protect others in case it's something malicious.

OK so I have been seeing few accounts on the forum painted as hacked or sold because they change password and also email account and something came to my mind instantly.
No, thats not true. As far as I know, nobody has ever been suspected of having their account hacked or sold just because of changing their email address or password. Many members do this without any negative reaction. This is about my own account, as you can see in the picture below I somehow ended up with a dummy email address on my account and trying to get that fixed made me realise that I will be painted as hacker too because who would believe me that I change my email and password to get rid of the dummy email address on my profile.
The admin did this because your old email in your profile wasnt working. Check out what theymos said about it here: This is something we recently started doing. If email sent to your email address bounces with an error message like, "This email address doesn't exist", then your email may eventually be changed to u...@bounces.invalid. (It's not possible for users to change their email address to something ending in .invalid, so this can only be an administrative change.) Because your old email didn't exist, somebody could've registered your non-existent email address and used that to steal your account.

Sign a message from the btc address you used before (should be used in the forum and needs to be a fairly old one) saying you are changing your email address and you are still the original owner of the account and nothing bad will happen.
Actually if he has participated in a signature campaign with wallet address, that would have been better or self explanatory for this particular account to sign a message, but I can see that the account is still a new member, and maybe it has no address for now to sign a message, for op, account can be hacked, do not argue about it because things happens in the forum, don't doubt anyone .

Why don't you create this thread with that said account, because as it is, one can tag the account already as alts since you made the thread with your member account, so what you are running from in changing your email and password will stills definitely meet you now or later with this action. Also if your complaint is about the email, if you change your email alone and not together with password immediately no one will suspect you of buying the account.

If there is nothing suspicious about an account, even if email just changed there won't be any wrong finger pointing at it. At least we all know that the admin auto change some users' emails that are invalid for security reasons, unless when the account just woke up, change password and email, then there could be need to be asked for verification to prove ownership.
You don't need to participate in a signature campaign first before you can have an address attached to your account, the forum has a thread where users can set their address, and one can still participate in a signature and not be able to sign in message because they only use an exchange address you can't sign in message with a wallet you don't own private key to.

I didn't quite notice when this trend of changing password and email means a hacked, stolen or sold account. It was a normal thing back 2021. Also if your complaint is about the email, if you change your email alone and not together with password immediately no one will suspect you of buying the account.
This is not a good defence. If someone suspects that their account is compromised or about to be compromised, will itake sense to change only email and leave the password? Changing of password and email could be a pointer to hacked or sold accounts, but it is not an absolute evidence.

Yes we are just saying, but needless for the ops to make this thread, since obviously we know changing both email and password for the right reasons as a Forum member is never a threat for account hacking, and no tag for such actions unless the activities of the account exposes more evidences and characteristics of a bought accounts or hack accounts.

While this might not be strange, I suppose the thread for which you are referring that most of these paintings is done is on the reputation board. Due to privacy reasons and many unregulated activities for which the forum rules stays clearly out of, there is a need for certain issues such as account hacks and sales of accounts leading to change of hands to be reviewed by certain users for the protection of unsuspecting forum users. It’s for general safety hence, suspicious behaviors get flagged. You are not flagged for changing your password and email under normal circumstances. The thread highlights conditions under which this might happen and you always get the chance to prove you are the original owner of the account which could advert any damage and repair your reputations.
