I was a perfectly verified member of bybit NL. Recently migrated to bybit EU. Now they blocked my account from making any withdrawals at all for no clear reason. Read their email below. They want me to make all sorts of photos and video's in which i say things i dont agree with. They could even use these video's later against me if they want. Their claim is that i failed their "verification" which consisted of making photos of me holding my passport and me holding some piece of paper with text on it. Also they wanted my bank statements, which i supplied. I supplied them with all of these nonsense, and they still reject the verification.
Email:
Dear Trader Thank you for supporting Bybit EU.
We have detected multiple unsuccessful verification attempts on your account, indicating unusual activity. For your security, we need you to complete an additional verification process to ensure the integrity of your account. Once this is completed, we will lift any restrictions on your withdrawal functionality.
If you have not performed any operations on your account, please click here to ban your account or follow the step-by-step guide here.
If you made attempts and failed multiple times on the verification, please reply to this email and follow the three requirements below to lift the withdrawal restriction:
(1) Recall and resubmit the exact type of identification document previously used to complete your KYC verification on Bybit EU.
For example, if you have previously used your national identity card to perform your KYC, our team requires you to resubmit the same identity card (front and back) in the reply email. Submitting another document other than the one registered in our system will be rejected by the Bybit EU KYC team. All information available on the document must be clear and legible, preferably in HD resolution. The team will also pay particular attention to the image clarity of your facial features. Facial features are clearly shown. The photo/document uploaded needs to be the original file, printed documents/photoshopped documents are not acceptable. Please make sure there are no watermarks in the photo.
(2) A selfie video of yourself holding a piece of paper containing a handwritten date and the Original ID (Has been used for KYC) together.
Please indicate your request in a handwritten note and the date should be the day you take the selfie video. For example, "I confirm that I made attempts and failed multiple times on the account verification recently. I have provided the required documents on [day/month/year]. Please lift the withdrawal restriction on my account." Read out the above message loud and clear in English (If you are unable to speak English, you may read in your mother tongue language) Your facial features should be seen clearly. Please ensure that the handwritten note and the identity document in the video are readable. Please don't cover your identity document and handwritten notes while taking the video.
(3) Confirmation for withdrawal function unban request To lift the withdrawal ban on your account, reply to this email with the following 'self-disclaimer' text: "I confirm that I made attempts and failed multiple times on the account verification recently. I have provided the required documents on [day/month/year]. Please lift the withdrawal restriction on my account."
Please provide the required document by replying to this email. Your cooperation is highly appreciated. Thank you and we look forward to your reply.
Thank you.

I just found out about this migration. They clearly stated that your KYC failed and you need to resubmit with the same ID you used previously. The video verification request also seems to only require standard KYC ID, and they didn't mention any request for bank statements (did I miss that?). Questions: - What is the total loss?
- Did you do everything they asked (in the email request)?
- If your account (NL) was perfectly verified, how did you (by)pass the video verification request?
- Was it because you refused video verification that they asked (in another email) for additional verification, such as bank statements?

With my experience in using Bybit, this is what they often do, whenever they observed a change in IP address, then they quickly responded to log you out and requires that you re-login your credentials, they don't block accounts except there is obvious violation other than this they have noticed from your account, try engaged their customer service and hear their ownnside of the story.

What's the scam there? they want you to comply for another the same set of KYC to prove that it's you that has failed to login multiple times and as well as for the migration. I've got an account there, also kyc verified. But I have never experienced that I was asked for the second time but maybe the trigger is about the failed login for multiple times. Well, you are free not to comply with it if you don't agree with them. But the problem is if you still have some funds left in there, you'll have to comply for you to withdraw it.

When you start using a centralized exchange like Bybit, you have to accept that these types of verifications will happen. I don't like Bybit and I don't like KYC. But if you want to play in their backyard, you will have to do it on their terms.
I don't see a scam in progress here. They have asked you to upload the same government-issued document that you used for KYC the first time and a selfie, showing you holding the ID with a written note. This is what CEXs do. The confirmation that you want to request an unban of your account is new to me, but that may be because I don't use CEXs and haven't for a long time.
If you have previously uploaded your documents to them and undergone KYC, where is the problem doing it a second time the way they have asked you to?

What's the problem with submitting and complying with the requirements they requested? No one can help you bypass this except yourself.
Why are you afraid they might use the selfie video against you? This is just a procedure they use to verify your identity and confirm that you are the legitimate owner of the account.
Therefore, you must submit the documents and video they requested. Just make sure to record the video in good lighting. Stay away from Photoshop or any photo editor and make sure the documents are in high-quality, without any glare.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of centralized platforms; you are forced to comply with all the terms of service, especially after the transfer to the European (EU) version of the platform.

From what you portrayed it seems that your verification failed, and you attempted so many times to ensure the verification went through, but the thing is that, you would have followed the instructions given by the customer service of bybite, I could remember when I encountered exchange issues, the support team asked me to verify my documents with drivers license and national identity card, which I uploaded everything, but they demanded for selfie with write-up on white paper to claim ownership of my documents, I did it...And it was tye last thing I did and I got verified...So I will advice you not to miss up your documents during KYC, and you have to follow the instructions of the support team for the selfie so that your problems will be resolve.

You are holding my funds hostage. Unblock the ability for me to withdraw right now, or I will start legal action. I have supplied you with photos of me holding my government issued passport, as requested. I also supplied you with photos of me holding a handwritten note where i wrote some sentences that you requested. Now you keep asking for more and more nonsense. I am done with supplying you with such nonsense. You are holding my funds hostage for no reason, unblock the withdrawal option now.
I am not your personal video creator, i am not going to make a video for you. I am willing to send you photos of what you are requesting such as passport or other documents. I am not going to make any [incorrect] statements on videos or text
I sent them this message. I will not make any videos for them, this whole idea is fucking retarded. I was a verified member of bybit nl, and now i am suddenly the biggest criminal in eu? Yeah sure..

You are holding my funds hostage. Unblock the ability for me to withdraw right now, or I will start legal action. This forum is not affiliated with Bybit, and there's no official support from them here. There doesn't seem to be any other way than video verification for self-resolution, or you'll have to pursue legal action. Their service, their rules. -snip- I was a verified member of bybit nl, and now i am suddenly the biggest criminal in eu? Yeah sure..
They might actually consider you a criminal trying to steal from the original owner. Nobody knows.

They probably requested the video to verify that the documents are indeed yours and not someone else's.. These requirements are certainly applied for all their clients in the EU. In my opinion the only way to resolve this is to comply with their request. And once they release your funds, don't use their exchange again. Regarding your previous message, I dont think they'll take it seriously, since you agreed to the contract that grants them the authority to hold your funds, as outlined in the [ General Terms]. They may take action if complete documents are not provided or if there are suspicious activity or security concerns, etc. I understand your annoyance and frustration with their numerous and perhaps unreasonable requests, especially considering you provided them with your government-issued passport and a photo holding a handwritten note. This is why we always recommend against storing our assets in these CEXs platforms for the long term, as they may take further action at any time due to regulatory requirements.

I understand you sent them this message, but i can assure you that they wouldn't be one bit worried about this. What are your chances of winning a legal battle against an institution that has huge resources, you'd run out of yours before the case even gets started. And then there is their terms of service, which gives them the "right" to do something like this. That said, i understand your frustration. I do not like KYC and i do not like how centralized exchanges implement it, but it is what it is. If you want to use their platform, you have to be ready to be harassed in this way. At this point it is either you forfeit your funds in the platform, but that wouldn't make any sense because you already submitted the information they are requesting from you a second time, in addition with the selfie and the self-disclaimer text (which is absurd by the way). So that leaves you with one choice.
