According to what I found out, people playing football are more than people that are playing basketball ball, less number of people can give the players or managers thought of easy possible manipulation.

Also that manipulation in basketball can easily be done without people suspecting of any manipulations unlike how football matches are.

If you go to very lower leagues in football, there are manipulations there.

I think one reason is money itself. If this young players knows that they can manipulate the result in their favor and then have a lot of money in return, they most likely they will do it.

Specially those who think that they might not have a career in the bigger league - the NBA. So they might be just willing to be greedy and try to game the system by colluding with someone outside like in a point shaving and win money. So it's all about greed for this player.

That is not just with basketball but also with many other popular sports like tennis and soccer also. I think everyone have witnessed at least one some sort of surprise results in any of the above mentioned sports. This has started in early 2000 when gambling started to instill its roots online and ever since we have seen at least a couple of surprise results every weekend when major tournaments have been ongoing. The fact that it happened so often means only one thing and that is gambling or gambling companies definitely are interfering with the sports and what these 6 NCAA players have done is the peak of such interference. You already know that even soccer is also getting corrupt this time but the reason you can not compare it to basketball is because there is more structures in soccer that can not easily be compromised for fixing to take place. Many factors makes basketball susceptible to corruption and the major factor was mentioned by Oshosondy. The small number of players in that sport makes the sports very easy for corrupt people to gain access to those players and even officials of the game. Another factor which contributes to the corruption is the nature of high goal scoring and fast pace of basketball, it makes it very easy to fix the game.

Basketball is a simple sport to corrupt since an individual player can affect the game as compared to in football. One can alter the spread by a missed free throw or a foul without it being noticed. College athletes are also less challenging to target since most of them are not well paid and therefore, easy money is alluring. And, with lots of live-betting, fixers do not have to do with rigging the entire match, just some of the statistics. It is the reason why basketball becomes one of the most manipulated sport.

I think that’s because it’s basketball that gets reported a lot when players get caught in different leagues, whether local or major. But I don’t really think it’s any different with other sports. Fixing still happens, we just don’t notice it.

It’s not the sports organizers who are tolerating it, it’s the players who are breaking the rules because of greed. Things like point shaving are already common, and even these player props can be affected. If it were the organizers doing it, that would be way worse. We bettors would be losing our money for sure, because those stats could be controlled if there was already a script they needed to follow.

Corruption is in all the sports and with a larger number of participants in the sports, it's less pronounced for sport's like football just like it is for games like basket ball which has a smaller population of participants. Greed is eating deep into the minds of most of these sports personnel that's why even with the amount they are earning, they are still not satisfied and still tries to cheat process just to get extra funds. It's not just about the game but the fact that people are becoming too desperate.

That’s an unfortunate event indeed. I always assumed football was the most prone to match fixing, so hearing that basketball cases are growing is surprising. Where did you find this, I will be interested to read it because personally I believe football still has a higher susceptibility rate than Basketball, and the corruption will be higher as the league it is in becomes less popular. That is, the lower leagues are more likely to have corruption in any sports, football, basketball, cricket, boxing etc. The reason for that is mainly because the lower leagues has less attention on them, and the officials there including players are not as well paid as the players and officials in the higher leagues so likely they could more easily be bribed.

The fact that football seems to be less corrupt than basketball may be due to the fact that basketball is a less popular sport and there are fewer amounts of money circulating there. But no, this is a weak explanation, because the amount of money there is less, but it is also a lot of money. Or maybe basketball players have lower moral principles than football players? Are sports functionaries in basketball also immoral, unlike sports functionaries in football? Well, that's a completely ridiculous explanation. Then maybe we just don't know about the real level of corruption in football? Maybe.

Not sure why but maybe because of the player stats betting, wherein you can place bet on player stats such as score, rebounds, etc. and from this any player can limit themselves or give information that they will limit their stats to someone they trust and they can place bet on it, so basically it's not that hard to personally exploit the match, unlike in football that player stats were basically who will score, that's my take in this topic but not I'm entirely sure how it works behind.

Any game can be manipulated, even the sport bets we think has the highest viewers and soccer to be precise has a little possible tendency of being manipulated, however, we should not set our minds on such, because that does not make any sense to say that something happens and we lack the evidence of proving it to be true, basketball may not be the only one affected in this case, there are many more, but still yet, the level of all these corrupt practices are still not worth saying they are considerable enough to be noticed by all.

I believe it is mostly because basketball is heavily dependant on the state or actions of few people in order to change the outcome of the match.
I believe the fewer people involved in a match, the easier it becomes for the match to be fixed, that is why there is even more corruption in the world of boxing and professional fighting, because you only need to convince a single person to fix it all, in basketball you would only need to convince one or two player to under-perform to change the outcome of the match.

Football is more difficult to fix, since there are more people involved and football players in the most famous and prestigious leagues have more to lose than players in small leagues.

I'm not disputing with you that the basketball games are manipulated because it's a game of interest and a lot of individuals are investing in it just like the football and other sports. But when you say they're the most corrupted sport games, then I'll disagree with you not until you've proved it and I'll urge you not to assume because you've had some few encounters in the basketball leagues and then assume they're most corrupted. We see such rigged matches in the football and as much as football games is most dominance in the sports games, It could be suspicion that they'd do this rigging even more than the basketball. Maybe you haven't paid attentions on the Minor football leagues.

Football is a game where underdogs more often beat the favorites than in basketball. How many times have we seen surprising results in football? The team that is actually worse, scores a lucky goal, then they defend well, and take home the three points. If you are the star attacker in your team and you deliberately play bad, your team can still get a lucky win without your effort.

It's pretty much impossible to score more points than your opponents in basketball and beat them if you are the worse team. If the better team ends the game with 112 points, you don't just magically score 113 or more by share luck. That's a lot of points you have to score to get that result. If you are usually the superstar performer who scores 30-40 points or there are two of you who are indispensable to the team, it's easier to manipulate results. You directly influence the result and performance of your team. Your 30 or more points are expected for them to win. They can't just replace you with someone else who will score those 30+ points.

Then there are things like not defending properly and deliberately allowing the opponents to run past you. In football, you have 9 other outfield players who may still step in. The field is bigger. In basketball, it's a much better scoring opportunity if one person in the team isn't giving his all.
