It is very difficult to let go of a loss, especially when it is a large amount; there is always that feeling that makes you believe you can recover your loss in gambling. When gambling losses are significant, you can't just forget about them, and this is the reason why gamblers need to set limits that they can afford.

Gambling with an amount that you can afford to lose makes it much easier to forget about it, because initially, greed wasn't in the picture. Greed is one of the reasons why people go for larger amounts, and when they incur a loss, the only option seems to be to chase after the loss.

Inexperienced gamblers easily to after their losses and this is very common, likewise some gamblers with good experience sometimes still go after their loses too, and for some, especially those with lots of money to throw away, it's a kind of fun because no matter the amount of money they end up losing by the end of the day, it's absolutely no problem to them..

But where there is a big problem is when someone managing to feed decides to chase after their loss, not for fun actually but because the money they lost is one they can not afford to lose and to get it back, they think risking more money is the way to go, unfortunately for those in this category, things like this never seems to end up except for those who might get extremely lucky in the process.

I've experienced this myself many times. But I was surprised when I talked to fellow gamblers and bettors, and we all agreed that if, for example: you lose 45 minutes out of an hour and then win for 15 minutes, you'll be in a good mood by the end of the gambling evening.
But here's another situation: if a gambler wins for 45 minutes and then starts losing for 15 minutes, you'll be in a bad mood. It turns out that the end of the gambling evening is the most important stage.

Well, I would not judge gamblers who chase losses to quickly, or so hard, personally. Because in the end, we all are adverse to losses, and nobody likes to lose money to their bad luck.
If one cares for the money one is depositing on any casino to begin with, then there is something wrong going through one's mind.

Your system/budget is basic, but effective, if you keep yourself stuck to your plan you should be okey. To some people 5% of their money is still high enough to cause mental stress, though.

According to an article, this behavior is associated of having Alexithymia, a personality trait associated with poor emotional processing.  It said that this is corrolated to chasing losses.  

Indeed, gamblers do not like losing and they tend to device ways to recover their losses thus resulted in chasing losses.  Aside from that the article also stated that people also chase losses to trigger the feeling of Euphoria when they are able to get back the money they lost.

This vicious cycle will not stop unless the gambler accepts the loss and moves away from it instead of trying to chase it. That is the wise way of facing it, but most dont like it.

Ego alone isn't the reason why most people do chase after losses, there are people that really don't care about pride. However they still chase after losses. The reason why most people do chase after losses is because of too much expectations, they have put too much hope in gambling that if things didn't go the way they actually planned quitting or taking a break will become a problem. Chasing after losses is a very challenging issue among some gamblers and can wreck some gamblers of their hard earned money, more especially those who are not buoyant enough. Sometimes its easier said than done, as most of the gamblers hardly accept losses because all they want is to make consistent gains. But the nature of gambling, once you bet, be ready to lose, as not all can be lucky with gambling.

That's right, it's in the human nature and instinct that once you lose, you have the desire to win it back and sometimes what comes to my mind is "I won that before, I can win that back again" actually it's the common mistake most people do and most likely the beginners thought it can be learned the hard way. Personally I've experienced getting lose, chase my losses and lose more, even though it's in the human nature to try to save it, it's really good thing to accept it just like what you've said. It's hard to do but if you managed to get through it and became normal to you, you'll enjoy gambling without of fearing to lose since you can control your emotion and your finances/bankroll. Yeah, that is true. Some times it is not even about the money anymore, it is pride. Nobody likes to accept that they have messed up, so they will just keep playing, with the hope to fix it with one win.
