Gamblers keep on chasing losses even at the times when they are losing because most of them can't accept losses. not being bale to accept losses is the reason why a lot of people end up trying to back what they have lost. Another reason why most people chase losses is addiction, not having any reason but just enjoying the feeling that comes with it even when it is detrimental to them. chasing losses doesn't always end well, in the long run gamblers that do this are going to end up losing more, it takes more from gamblers

That is true, and I think here.... do you know why people try to recover your losses? I see three big problems and these people probably have some of them: Loss aversion is the first and i Think the most common... sometimes lose $100 is very painful, worse than winning that amount, losing and still breaking even. That is why our brain does not want to "end the day" with that pain, with this loss. So, "he are forced" to keep playing to break even and balance the loss. The other is the dedication to time spended... If more time and money you put into a session, harder it is to accept that it is over. Think about it with me... if you play for 10min and lose everything, that is fine , but if you play for all day and lose everything on the last hour, this does not that have a greater impact? Like, you played all day and it was all in vain? That is to hard to accept. The last one is the illusion of control... there is the player who believes they understand the game and have mastered it after many rounds and has the "confidence" that they will be able to reverse the situation even knowing that the result is totally random. In short, I thought of these three. The game is treacherous for those who do not have good bankroll management and strong emotions to control their impulses.

According to research, chasing losses is actually more of a psychological matter, than it is, a logical one. Apparently, when you lose money, your brain triggers a so- called ' recovery mode' that makes you want to get/ win it back, just cause you don't want the day to end in the negative. It becomes less about the game and more about the chase. At that moment your ego's trying to fix the loss. This might look like a big motivator as the individual is simply refusing to give up, but, it usually almost always amounts to bigger loss, desperate moves/ decision, and more losses. Research shows that most addiction cases start from just one bad day of loss that was tried to be fixed/ repaired, instead of being accepted.
Wow, that is pretty eye opening and makes a lot of sense honestly. Having a bad day in the casino is never leaving you with a good feeling so its natural to try and seek the best outcome. Unfortunately that almost always leads to more gambling in the hopes that you will hit a streak and win it all back. Sadly that is just delusional at that point but only if you don't win of course hehhe ;P

This is something I used to do during my early days (15-20 years ago). I would say that it is a natural process. The first phase is that you win small amounts when you gamble for the first time, and it will encourage you to gamble even more. In the second phase, a big loss will occur and it will wipe out the gains from all of your previous games. Now the third phase is that you lose your mental stability and start chasing losses. And you end up with an even greater loss. Fourth phase is realization. You realize that you can't gamble without strict stop-loss targets and you either quit gambling, or be more disciplined from that day onwards. I am not saying that this happens to everyone. But it happened to me, and to 90% of my friends.

Sadly that is just delusional at that point but only if you don't win of course hehhe ;P Nah, it's not exactly an eye opener, everyone already knew it and how it will have an impact negatively, most of the time. In fact, a lot of people turned a blind eye tends to ignore it because the emotions takes over. Frustration makes a person think stupidly and wreckless, so, that is when being logical stops working, so does being concerned of how much was already spent and losing more doesn't worry them anymore. IMO, chasing losses is more of a physiological and emotional thing. The real recovery mode is not trying to win back what you have lost today, but calling it a day and not try to lose even more, rest, and then come back fresh in the next couple of days or so, is.

A gambler’s downfall often stems from a lack of discipline, which is why many continue chasing losses. Most gamblers I know—including myself—struggle to recognize when it’s time to walk away. From experience, it’s always wise to set clear objectives before playing: establish a maximum or minimum amount of capital, and once that limit is reached, accept the outcome and step away. The idea is simple in theory but difficult in practice, because the instinct of a gambler is to pursue losses in the hope of turning things around.

~ With all the loss you will be looking for a good win to make you feel better and you will end your day with a good note.most times this kind of thinking, at the end of the day will turn out to be something that will trap you down and to bring yourself out from it, you have to get real control of yourself to know when you will move on or stay back for the last win.
We don't even need control, be ready to accept that we lost that will make everything else easier. That is where people starts to struggle they don't want to end up as loser but we are not a loser just because we accepted the loss, the win and loss are inevitable so having unnecessary ego is going to hurt us but no one else.

For me I will say the first reason why people would always chase losese is because of understanding, the way you understand gambling, the expectations you have on gambling can be a reason never to let go in gambling. Some gamblers started gambling think gambling is easy and they can get any amount they want. Understanding gambling cant be predicted and a game of luck, will give gamblers the right way on how to go about gambling.

IMO, sometimes it's not about greed, when someone loss and want to recover his losses, this a sign of lack of discipline not greed. Greed when you win but not stop, you prefer to play more to win more that a greedy position. but when losses, emotion making gambler lose his control and discipline.

In physical casinos, I know some gamblers who chase losses because of competition. When they see that another gambler has just won a big amount, they would want to keep playing, thinking that they can also win. The feeling that you can recover losses when you keep gambling,, even when it harms your fianance is the main cause og gambling addiction.

i guess you have just described the reason why gamblers keep chasing loses. of course without being told everyone should have known by now that when a gambler loses, it triggers that anger of wanting to win back, and not letting go off the loses will results to more loses, addiction frustration and emotional problems. if gamblers can be able to take a break when they noticed they have loosed, maybe they cant lose more. but that instinct keep telling gamblers to continue until they gamble and become penniless.

people do not like to lose at all. when they lose in gambling they feel that playing one more time will fix everything and bring back what was lost. this hope keeps pulling them back again and again. slowly it turns into a habit and then into addiction. at that point people stop thinking logically and start chasing the feeling gambling gives them. but in reality chasing losses only increases the loss. over time people lose not just money but also peace of mind confidence and the trust of loved ones. stopping is not easy but being able to stop is the greatest strength. the person who understands in time and regains control is the real winner.

That's why it's important for a gambler to have a budget for a daily gambling limit. It will help you stick around a defined amount. Even when you have losses and are still chasing to win. Even responsible gamblers chase, trying to recover what they have lost, at least not to go back with empty hands, but there are limits to it; they have a target for the day, and once it enlaces, they stop and wait for the next day. While calming down to make better predictions.

Initially it may be triggered by emotions to want to gamble again, but why do they chase their losses because they cannot lose the money they have lost before so they continue to chase that loss, they want their money back through the luck they hope for, whether there is a problem with the money that is clear when they start gambling excessively they use existing funds, such as emergency funds, funds for treatment and the like whose designation is important people who are addicted will use any money to gamble and when they lose they panic and continue to pursue it.

From what I have learned, there is always a desire to regain what has been lost, especially when it is a significant amount. It is difficult to completely avoid this feeling, and it is also quite difficult to forget it before everything is replaced. This is one of the things that drives us to continue gambling, but in reality, the losses we experience are never truly replaced. There was a time when I experienced a loss and, in order to recover, I kept making deposits until I went all in at the end of the game. However, I think luck was on my side as I managed to win a large enough amount to replace my previous losses and make a small profit. However, a foolish thought suddenly crossed my mind: “How can I play for hours but only make a small profit?” I continued playing and lost everything.

We should be very careful in gambling and we have been warn to always gamble responsible and also use what we can afford to lose so that we won't have this thinking or mood of trying to recover or get back what we have lost and I also believe that if we gamble responsible and use what we can afford to lose I don't think we will be tempted to gamble more or try to recover. Winning is not certain and that should be the more reason we should not take it in our head because it is like dreaming.

It is indeed very difficult to keep calm when you think about how much money you have lost in gambling and maybe you wanna give a last try to recover it. The problem is that most people never really mean a "last try" yet they continue with conscience or unconscious about what they are really doing trying to recover such loses that bring further ones. I have been myself in that position and the only way I have found out to work so far is to keep the money in your wallet and see the difference compared when you used to deposit money in the casinos. Personally I am developing a project how I have overcome gambling and living relatively free from it yet it is still early to post results here, once it is done I will post an extensive thread sharing my experience, it needs a minimum of few weeks to few months to finish it if I can.

Yeah, that is true. And one of the main reason people cannot even accept the losses is because they are gambling with money that was not meant for gambling in the first place. Money like Rent money, people’s money, borrowed funds and so on. once that money is lost, they will start panicking. Instead of accepting the loss, they will then be trying to recover it, and that is where chasing starts. At that point it’s no longer fun again, it will now get to gambling, and like you said, it just keeps taking more and more from them.

There could be more than enough reasons why gamblers are chasing after losses best known to themselves, however, this is not what should be found with us, if others are not getting it right, then we must not also join them constituting the same approach in a wrong manner, some gamblers easily lose focus in gambling, after making huge mistakes, then they start to run after the losses in other to recover.
