Bitcoin tx fee below 1 sat/vB

I can't remember that I've seen this before, that the transaction fee is way below than 1 sat/vB for low and medium priority and the high stays to 1-5 sat/vB.

While it's also moving a bit for the high ones, upon looking at the tx fee on mempool makes me wonder if this has ever happened before?

This is also a slap to the face of those bitcoin haters who keeps saying its tx fee is expensive.

We have been discussing about this since some weeks ago and many if us have been using less than 1 sat/vhyte. More wallets are also supporting it.

That might be the cheapest for the current times, but historically it’s not. Back in 2015 there were transactions with zero fees and they still confirmed.

I even found an old topic where a user was asking how long a no-fee transaction takes to confirm, and another user replied that it took around 1 day.

Confirming transactions without any fee depends on the Bitcoin miner's goodwill. Because miners won't get any compensation for confirming your transaction, it means they do not have incentive to put your transaction in the blocks they mine. Thus, if the Bitcoin blockchain is busy, transactions with a higher fee are more likely to be confirmed.

Its has been 0.2 sat/vB for a while. I was sceptical to make any transaction lower than 1 sat but it actually worked. One thing to keep in mind is that many pools refuse to broadcast any transactions less than 1, so it might take a while for it to confirm but it will confirm. I think the lowest is something like 0.18 sat/vbtye and I just used 0.20 sat just to be sure it would work. I had RBF enabled so I figured might as well try it, took a few hours but it confirmed.

Etherum is similar. Remember how it cost $50 to send USDT back in 2017, well now you can do it for pennies. I think everybody has moved on to L2 or Solana and nobody uses Ethereum anymore. People got tired of being robbed paying those huge fees and moved on the Arbitrium or Solana.

Right now even my Bank charges on transaction have exceeded Bitcoin transaction fee, but I understand that this won't be permanent because fluctuations will still keep happening when Bitcoin goes up and down but still Bitcoin is solid option for payment solutions.

This has been the case for the last month or so, the highest is 2 sat/vB and you can get your transaction on the next block. If you are not in a hurry, then less than that you will be fine. There were even instances that 0 sat/vB is the fee and one single miner was able to solved that block. As for those who said that fees are expensive, yes they are all wrong. But if you have to think about it, just about the same time last year, everyone was complaining about the fees, exchanges, gambling sites and crypto enthusiast. As we have to adjust or even uses altcoin or any other method to solved the issue. But it was short lived, the attack didn't last that long and now there's no more deliberately bloating the network fees and that project has died down, (it was called ordinals if my memory serves me right).

I think the key here has been that commercial wallets have added the ability to send transactions below 1 sat/vByte without complicating your life. In Trezor, this option is already enabled by default, as well as in others, as mentioned in the thread shared by Charles-Tim.

Although the difference between using 1 sat/vByte and using something like 0.3 can mean a confirmation time of a couple of hours for the former and a couple of days for the latter. If you're not in a hurry, that's fine.

Just a quick reminder: times like these are ideal for concatenating your unspent outputs... In case blocks fill up in the future and you'll have to outbit others to get your tx confirmed in a reasonable timeframe, it's much cheaper to create a one input => two output transaction than a 50 input => 2 output transaction  

To bad my electrum wallet is stubborn and only lets me create a 1 sat/vbyte fee tx...

I see some transactions with cheaper fees (0.15 sat/vB)^[1] and estimates they will be confirmed within ~19 minutes. If this trend continues we may see fees of 0.001 sat/vB. If it is confirmed within 20 minutes, it will be something special, but it is better to consider 1 sat/vB as the minimum fee for important transactions.

Yeah, when the price rolls back up, the fees will do the same, but it's still great to use the network on such conditions while it lasts.

When they are not using Bitcoin, some of them hardly look at the mempool before making some speech, they only talk based on some past record of when the Bitcoin network faced attacked by ordinals and then fee skyrocketed, but after then, fee normalized and has been extremely low, even before now that your transaction can be confirmed with 1 or 0.5 Sat, you can still do it then but it could take a longer time to confirm, therefore it was never mandated that you must pay high fee, but if you want a fast transaction and for miners to prioritize you transaction, then you can increase the fee, otherwise you can allow it take hours and it will still be successful but that is if you are not in a rush.

This was the commonest memepool viewer on this forum before aside memepool.space, but since the bitcoin transaction below 1 sat/vbyte is becoming common, some people that want to use lesser than 1 sat/vbyte will not make use of the site because the site lowest fee is 1 sat/vbyte. It would be good if it can also be updated to the lower fee.

If you kept this [Sep 2025]Mempool empty, Consolidate your small inputs @0.19 sat/vbyte thread in your watch list then you would know that bitcoin TXs went below 1sat/vb for months now.

Yet we don't have the wallets that is supporting this, I am still seeing 1sat is the lowest fee I can go using default settings on electrum and most other wallets, this need to change that can save few more bucks for the average users.
