Breaking Point in Gambling

 A breaking point is the point you'll get to and you call it a quite in what ever you are doing.  The point were you are stretched to your limit and the option you should opt for is just giving up.
SO AT WHAT POINT SHOULD YOU CALL IT A QUIT IN GAMBLING? What is the level you will get to and you another its your breaking point in gambling?

Here's the reasons why I asked the above question;
I have a colleague that is has been into dept for the past 6 months because of debts accrued due to gambling.  At the end of the month he pays debts from his little salary so he ends up owing colleagues to just manage by till the month ends . And he complains bitterly of how he has been paying this depth for over these months and how it has even mentally affected him which inturn is affecting his performance at work as well.
At this point my only advice to him is to stop anything gambling when he is finally out of this depth because he is at his breaking point already. So what is your take on this issues?
Do you think he should continue gambling or he should stop?

I agree with you that your friend is at his breaking point because he's addicted if not, why will he be borrowing money to gamble and pile up debts for himself. I don't need to reach my breaking point before I call it a day. I gamble responsible with self control and discipline to avoid addiction. Though, I was once an addict.

I haven’t reached that level yet, but based on your description, that already sounds like a serious kind of gambling addiction. The moment you start borrowing money just to gamble because you want to recover your losses, that’s a big warning sign and that’s the time you should quit.

But the problem is, people who are already doing that are addicted. They have no idea what they’re doing, and they don’t even see themselves as addicts. The only way for them to stop is if people around them stop tolerating it. They won’t gamble if they have no money, so they’ll be forced to quit.

There are 2 points when I have to take a break while gambling and I keep my best to stay on these 2 situations.
1st is when I have just lost my gambling budget. I have a gambling budget that I usually set for a month, if I lose it it too early or I lose the whole budget in the first week of the month then I have to stop for the rest of the month.
2nd is when I have just won some money. At this point, I have to take a break so I can enjoy the winning first for something that I can spend/buy IRL.
I know it is not that easy to stay on discipline but I have to try it hard to avoid something bad later.

Your friends definitely need to call it quit for the same reasons that excessive gambling has put him in debt ways to the extent that his salary is majorly servicing his gambling debts, it has become very necessary that he quits gambling for now so that he can find his feet financially.

This is a valid breaking point, it has started affecting him psychologically too and it is very bad for him, he is surely addicted and gambles even beyond his income, that is financial carelessness and irresponsible gambling. He needs to quit for his sanity's sake. I believe by now he might have even sold some belongings to satisfy his gambling desires or pay for his gambling debts

Well frankly speaking I haven't get to that stage before though I might get their unknowingly because sometimes I felt like quiting from gambling in that initial time that's when I tried several times without wining then this feeling of quiting usually come during that process, and whenever this happened I will just do exactly what my mind tells me to do then after few months I can decide to come back again.

At this point my only advice to him is to stop anything gambling when he is finally out of this depth because he is at his breaking point already. So what is your take on this issues?

It is obvious that he's a gambling addict so what he's supposed to do right now is to look for a way to come out from that hole he ran into, and surely asking him to stop when he finally clear those debt he's owing it's indeed a very good advice which if I happens to be his friend I would have also do the same.

I have a time I always call it a quit every week, a point that I will not gamble again that week until next week.

If I lose all my weekly percentages that I allocated to gambling, I will not think twice but to quit gambling immediately if the weekly budget on gambling has been exhausted.

The second reason I quit gambling that week is when I win already. I will prefer to withdraw the money than to continue gambling.

One should always refrain from gambling. Gambling is never good for one person. Your colleague should refrain from gambling as you mentioned. People who are new to gambling and who get addicted to something very easily, if they start gambling, they may become addicted very easily. The same thing happened to your colleague. He is very addicted now. If he cannot quit gambling at once, then he should quit it gradually.

If I advice him to continue to gamble wouldn't that make me look like an evil person? No one needs to advice him to stop, you said he is already at a breaking point then he should give up.

If he is already addicted to gambling he will find it hard to give up, any small money he can raised up he will run back to a betting den in a split second, an addicted gambling only pitied himself when he has no money, the money small money entered his hand he is going.

I hope this is not his case yet? If can stop and get the debt fixed if he wants, I hate anything debt and this fault is all his, a debt is already a heavy weight, you should avoid any extra debt when the first one isn't settled yet.

Always avoid debts at all cost especially when your life isn't balanced, imagine going to look for Job now just to settle some debt, it is going to be a very unpleasant experience.

Naturally you would advise your colleague to stop gambling. A gambler who has faced a gambling breakdown should have quit gambling long ago. Without the need for advice from others that gambler should have given up the money losing activity.
Does that gambler think that he has become an experienced and will not lose? It is not possible that he will get jackpot overnight and pay off all his debts and he does not need to do the job he is doing. He is in a great confusion and he should quit gambling and focus on alternative income to prevent the breaking point.

Once you've gotten to that level where it appears you're just chasing after your loss, you should know better that calling it a stop is the best thing to do. The reason why we continue to see cases of gambling addiction on the rise is because the addicted gambler fail to know that at certain point, they are to walk away and for some, even though they know when to walk away, the ability to make that decision becomes the toughest thing to do.

If you're depending on yourself in terms of being disciplined enough to stop when you haven't set a modality in place then you're going to end up decieving yourself because failure to make proper plan for your exit strategy at the time you're a bit vulnerable will eventually lead to certainty in addiction.

Given his situation, the smartest move is to stop gambling entirely, because once it reaches the point of debt, stress, and declining performance at work, it’s no longer entertainment but a destructive cycle that will keep draining him until he chooses to break it sometimes stepping away is not just a choice, but the only path back to stability and peace of mind.

How can someone like that should continue in gambling, if he continues, he can't progress in life and it is the right time for him to just quit gambling before gambling quit him from the world. Tell him to stop now. Though his addiction is on the high side and it would be very difficult for him to leave gambling but he has to take drastic decision to leave gambling. There is no any other solution for him to leave gambling. If only he wants to do well in the society and in his family.

Let's be a responsible gambler and we don't have to wait till we get to such point of saying we are done to the brim and only have to quit, this many comes along with other characterizations like vexation, insatiable feelings, uncomfortability and the rest of them, but when we gamble the way we should, everything will have to work in place for us and we are going to enjoy playing as we may like it, it's also important that we planned out way in gambling, know the limits to everything we do and how we could manage ourselves for better experience in it.

It definitely means that he needs to stop gambling and I say this from my personal experience. I was never in debt to anyone except credit card companies and I managed to reach this breaking point not many days ago when I lost many deposits in a row. I decided that this is the turning point and no more I will ever gamble again. It takes a boiling point, a point you get mad with your life like your friend here being several months in a row in debt that is definitely a turning point for your friend. If he is unable to reach the status of quitting himself then he needs professional help as there is absolutely no other way for recovery.

I’ve tried it in the past,,  borrowing money just to finance my gambling and it doesn’t give you peace of mind at all. It’s very stressful because you keep thinking how you’re going to pay the loan if you lose. And even if there’s always some kind of solution, if you’re someone who works paycheck to paycheck, that becomes a huge problem.

And guess what? Because of the debt and the addiction, it affects your job performance. You become less effective, and that can lead to losing your job. If that happens, you won’t be able to pay your loan and that becomes a very serious problem.

As for quitting, we’re the only ones who can decide. But if we’re willing to listen to advice, we can act before things get out of control.

He should stop and focus on paying his debts. He needs to seriously searching for more opportunities to earn more money so he can pay all of his loans. It may be difficult for him but he must do that or he will end up frustrated and see his life ruined.

No need to reach the breaking point in gambling to stop. You must control yourself to avoid problems. If you can't treat gambling as entertainment and for fun, you don't have to play. Many people fall because of gambling and become addicted to gambling. You must remember this and suggest your friend to quit gambling forever and fix his life.

The rule that can be practiced by gamblers is to take a break. There is no other way than to practice rest carried out by the gambler himself. If a casino makes certain limits for gamblers to break in writing as a rule, I don't think that's what they built the casino for.

The case he experienced was personal because he was unable to be a wise gambler and the casino could not be blamed.
If he realizes that he is already showing signs of losing everything because everything is used as money to be able to play, then if he loses today, he should not continue and rest for tomorrow.

As for quitting, we’re the only ones who can decide. But if we’re willing to listen to advice, we can act before things get out of control.

He should know already that gambling is not what he think it is, if not done appropriately, it can lead to addiction and which is what that has happened to him. I hope he has quit gambling, he should not gamble again is my advice for him and he should pay back his loan. I do not know the reason some people will be losing in gambling and it will get to the point of borrowing money for gambling.

Your friend has crossed the Red line, at this point he has to quit totally, I can't imagine such a person at that stage still gambling, that's bad, it is obvious that gambling is not for him, for him to incure such volume of debt, it means he has not been a responsible gambler, when people say gambling is not not meant for everyone, some person misunderstand it, I think this is a clear case of if you can control your emotions and can't control your actions, don't join because it might ruin you, i believe what your friend is facing right now is as a result of chasing loss and refusing to accept the fact that loss chasing can be misleading and can lead gamblers to something regretful.
