The ChatGPT post I quoted is objectively of much higher quality than those criticized by the OP, for starters because it replies on topic unlike the human replies. But you also have to know how to use it; a shitposter using ChatGPT will get lower quality responses than someone who knows how to use it.

I'm actually not sure what is worse - spammer who makes generic shitposts or someone who use AI to make him look smart. For me both is equally bad and it's like cancer of this forum. If typical spammers is something what we're facing since the early days of Bitcointalk. While AI spammers is more new thing that we see in recent few years. And I hate fact that AI gnerated stuff is taking over internet. It's good tool if you use it for right purposes. But what we have now - AI made texts, images, songs and etc.
Some things don't changer here - people always are looking for ways how to milk campaigns and reach biggest possible earnings with least effort. Still, I think that majority here is typical signature spammers rather than AI users. AI generated posts just looks different, while my eyes already learned how to skip shitposters gibberish.

That is not necessarily true. Just because some makes a post on the first page doesn’t mean they are good posters. Most of the time, it means that they are utilizing TryNinja’s bot so they get notifications on new topics. It is the assumption that posts written on the first page = quality posts, that drives some users to reserve posts on a topic and come back later to edit the posts to make it look like they were the post to respond to the OP’s question.

Luke is (probably) not getting paid to promote knots, it's his own project. He is making his BTC back from the 2% skim that ocean.xyz takes in fees

But, neither one posts here that much.

I was talking about all the new user pro knots posts here (and elsewhere). Had a bunch pop up on a semi-private hardware board I'm on saying how great knots is.
Or long dormant accounts that came back to life to say knots is great, when their last post was in 2019.

Unfortunately, a lot of forum members don't read anything except the title or the first post in the topic, so that results in completely meaningless posts, as is the case in the topic linked by the OP. In such cases, it is a pity that there is no possibility of negative merits, they definitely deserve it.

Negative merit could have been a thing, but then we might later need a Court section on the forum to review every negative merit complaint, because there would be tons of them in just a month as a result of Mr. A having some misunderstanding with Mr. B, leading to continuous negative merit on both sides.

They don’t get paid for reading so it’s like why bother. I think it’s even worse in the local boards, some people just string certain words together that don’t make sense or relate to the OP just to meet their signature quota. We can ban them but chances are people who make those kind of posts usually have multiple accounts.

It's quite common unfortunately. You know that the poster isn't interested in discussion when they just do that. As what others mentioned in here since there is no minus merits, we can just report it instead.

Sometimes when I don't know what to say in a thread or discussion, I tend to ask back then if the topic is interested and OP isn't attempting to just flood a board that. I haven't yet posted recently cause shit happens in life sometimes, but that's how I roll normally.

I did kinda of have the impression that AI would be better than this-- but some of them may also just be using smaller local models or just setup to respond reading the first post or first page.  Or as others have said-- perhaps just meatbots that are dumber than AI.

I would have expected the non-reads a little more if it were a current thread, but in this case I'd bumped a few weeks old one.  Clearly I should have just made a new thread for it.  Lesson learned, --- but yeah, it's still pretty sad.

I know the thread specifically talks about AI. I'll generalize it a little bit, but I'll try to stick to the main subject.

Who keeps using the forum in a legitimate way?

1. the one who gets paid.
2. the one who is passionate about bitcoin.
3. the one who still likes using old-styled forums.

The rest are trolls, professional attention-seekers, or AI-spammers and their goal is:

(a) to laugh at us, who take them seriously.
(b) to reach a point where they can join a campaign and get paid as well.
(c) to promote a scam website or service.

That would give legitimacy to the decision, and on the other hand, whoever gets -1 wouldn't even know which members are behind it.

One of the things that theymos did that I like is how he did not make negative or minus merit, I do not like how something like that is abused on the smaller forum. There should be other ways to deal with scammers, spammers, shit posters and other people that are contributing bad to this forum. AI users and those that spam up to 5 or 10 posts consecutively can be given 7 days ban, but continues use of AI and spamming should lead to 14 days ban and later permanent ban. Giving them negative merit will still make them to continue what they are doing as some people are having negative trust but still spamming with their scam threads and having more accounts to do their bad work like HomoHerectus that I mention before.

A good start would be if signature campaign managers actually began reading the posts they’re paying for, since mods are unwilling to be harsher when it comes to handling reported shitposts.

I'm not going to convince you, and already had 2 of the users that responded on Ignore. I've been "complaining" about the lack of punishment for plagiarism and AI for years now, and largely gave up reporting them. If it takes more effort to report a chatbot spammer than it takes for him to spam, it's a lost cause if they don't get banned on sight. If Mods just delete the reported posts but let the user continue, I just click Ignore and move on. This may very well destroy Bitcointalk as we know it.
