I have met a lot of football fans like this and I will say that they defend their favorite team even in defeat because they are loyal to the club, when they start coming up with excuses even when they are wrong there's no point in keeping the conversation going because you already know they are trying to defend their favourite club. I'm also a football fan and I have a favorite team,  I don't spot out dumb reasons why they lost or use previous Victories as a cover up, I always make sure I'm not being biased. People must accept the fact their club can lose at anytime even if they consider the team to be formidable. But in the end fans would always be fans regardless of what anyone says

I don't understand why some people (fans) are so fixated on their teams and can't even accept their defeat. It's not like your team can always win, eventually they'll be defeated. It's easier to accept the loss rather than make excuses; it's not like you're playing yourself, your team isn't you to defend them like a trophy. Some people are too annoying when such conversations start, which is why it's best to avoid getting into such discussions in the first place. I'm also a football fan but don't act like that.

Fans are always ready to do anything to cover up for their teams mistake, even if their team is performing poorly, they still going to be saying positive things about there team. Lolz that is football for you, I have known Chelsea and Manchester united club fan to have that characteristics, sometimes they even go as far as fighting each other. Sometimes I wonder the reason for all this drama, why can't fans accept the fact that their club has failed instead of picking up an unnecessary argument that will yield to nothing but fight. I have come across this type of argument in football viewing center, and for that reason I have decided not to watch football in public places because of this attitude.  Sometimes people stab themselves and get injured while the big boys play the game and received payment and even they don't have problem within themselves, but fans kill themselves for nothing.

Many things fans can do if they don't want to see their favorite team lose. They can vent their anger by destroying public facilities and don't even care if they endanger other people around them. They must aware that what they do can put their life at risk because if the police arrest them, they can get in trouble.

We have die hard fans who will support their clubs in any situation whether the team is doing well or not they stand by it and defend it anywhere, they will cover the mistakes and weaknesses of their supporting team. Example is Arsenal fans, despite many seasons of not lifting any major trophy they are still strongly behind the team and will readily give reasons why they are yet to lift a trophy. I have seen fans in my country jump into the field and beat up referees because they claim that the referee was biased. This is normal.  They give this reasons not because they wanted to explain to other people, but instead they wanted to convince themselves of that reason.  Speaking the reason in their head out is because they wanted other people to reaffirm what they think is true, this way, they can have peace of mind, giving reason to themselves why their favorite team lost. That, at least, is my opinion why fans automatically give reasons why their favorite team lost.

Sports fans behaves like religion fanatics at times, they take football too seriously like they can die for the sport, haven't any of you guys witnessed sport violence? I almost lost my neice when a fight broke out at a sport center in 2019.

Sport discussions brings out how people really are, their sense of understanding and reaction to things shows who they are, I don't like discussing football because of this, it turns ugly really fast, I choose my peace over such arguments.

This is sport game, you becoming a diehard fan doesn't make you a share holder of the team, you won't get a penny from how much they make all the time, watching sport is for excitement and it should stay that way.

That’s how football fans behave worldwide and you may only find few people that will spill the fact as it is, but most of them will always have a reason to justify their team’s win. So just because Chelsea fans are trying to not feel embarrassed for losing to Leeds United, getting a good evidence point to rely on is the best for them to get a reduced banter from their opponent fans.
