If something is going to take you years to achieve it is better to start with a solid foundation.
Christmas is around the corner and I believe that the best gift 🎁 that anyone can gift themselves this season is a crypto hardware wallet.

If you can make up your mind to start DCA into Bitcoin then you are also capable to buy Bitcoin hardware wallet, you have no excuse because the cheapest hardware wallet is Trezor one which is priced at $49 right now. Another budget option is the Safepal S1 which costs nothing more than $49.99 and uses air-gapped QR based signing mechanism.

Let's say you plan to start buying Bitcoin in January 2026, sacrifice the first month for getting these cheap hardware wallet, it is convenient and the only thing to worry about is keeping your recovery phrase safe, compare to running some software based or DIY stuff that actually works for some but could be complicated for a starter I think $50 is a good amount worth spending.

I gathered my Bitcoin mining rewards and added extra more from my salary, I ended up choosing Keystone, this doesn't rule out this Ledger one and the Safepal S1.

Linux OS is as a good if not the cheapest way to run a free and safe Bitcoin wallet via Electrum, I was excited to do this and Its been over a week already to figure out that it is not for me, I had to battle some issues here and there, couldn't even find answers online like how you would with windows11, as someone who is coming from windows 11 I have been warned that it could be this complicated but its true, if it can be this complicated for me it will be for some people too.

Age is also not a number, 😞 maybe the new millennium kids can do better than I can, too old for tweaking to no vail.

Maybe you could also take some time to read on this thread below to know more better on something related.

If the intention is to help someone understand how to HODL, then a hardware wallet makes more sense. It teaches them how to secure their Bitcoin properly. If you just give them Bitcoin directly, they might end up spending it since it feels like regular money. But with a hardware wallet, they actually have a tool to store their Bitcoin safely, especially if they really plan to hold long term.

Does it have to be like this? I don't think there are many wallets that can be used, and all this time I felt safe. Provided that you take good care of the keys and don't make any mistakes. When I started, I did that; we don't have to start with expensive costs. That $49.99 is quite a lot for me, I need some time to save up and buy it. Start with enthusiasm and safely according to what you can afford. If we have to do it like that, then it might feel burdensome. It may indeed be safer than a hot wallet, but we will need money if we have to start with a cold wallet.

Hard to agree more. You need a hardware wallet.

Really only way to go, in my opinion.

I do not mean to complicate issues and neither am I ruling out the importance of a hardware wallet, but still on still no every body can afford it as cheap as you described it to be. The $50 which sounds cheap to you could be the striving little beginning of another hodler reading this.

Which makes reason to me what Somegory puts together, it is not always about the hardware (still not ruling out it importance) but how the hodler manages those keys.

A reckless nonchalant user having his keys leaked can lead to the siphoning of his assets, and this is no ceiling to how self security conscious we have to be with the hay type of bitcoin wallet we can afford to use if we can not be responsible with the keys.

Buying Bitcoin is not easy as well, every $10 we DCA is blood and sweat for many people, which is why it has to be done right, and $10 in five places already turn to $50.

The thing is people would rather DCA into Bitcoin with every $10 they get than to pack the money and invest on a hardware wallet.

DCA into Bitcoin is one thing but spending money right is another.

From what I understand, he isn't buying it for someone else; he's buying it for himself. It's a gift for himself. If he is buying it for himself, it's assumed he already has Bitcoin and understands it.

But if it's for someone else, then it has to be for someone who already understands bitcoin and understands the concept of holding or else, the gift might be useless to them
If the person doesn't really understand bitcoin and doesn't understand the concept of holding, it doesn't matter where the bitcoin is; they will spend it if they want to.

Every bitcoin investor needs to prioritize the safety of their asset, so it is more like inappropriate for somebody to want to DCA despite the amounts your starting with without a proper hardware wallet that will secure your investments. The first line of management for every investor is how to safeguard your keys, so if anybody decides to be nonchalant with their keys, then that person should deal with it, as your keys should always be kept safe regardless.

Christmas is around the corner and I believe that the best gift 🎁 that anyone can gift themselves this season is a crypto hardware wallet.
It's not such a bad idea to gift someone a HW device for Christmas, but before you do this, you must be certain the person is into crypto. It will make no sense to gift someone such a gift who has zero interest in crypto because he will likely not use the HW device and may even sell it.

You might already be familiar with Windows, but Linux is still the best OS for running electrum wallet, especially if you want to run an air-gapped wallet. I don't know the kind of challenges you encountered while setting it up, but I believe if you had asked for help here, you would have gotten it.

This seems clearer to me. It's actually a perfect gift for yourself, or for anyone who is enthusiastic about bitcoin and would want to start storing bitcoin most especially that bitcoin price has not completely recover. New year is fast approaching, and it creates a very positive feeling knowing that you will start the year with a huge purpose, that is to gradually maximize your bitcoin storage until it hits a very massive amount.

Now if you want to gift it to others, at least make sure that he's a bitcoiner or he has plans to be a future bitcoiner so that your gift will not go into waste or getting valueless.

When a person purchases bitcoin to oneself, it is a cost towards the self, even when received as a gift. This implies they have already heard about Bitcoin, have the idea behind holding value and have the desire to slowly accrue their savings. Particularly when the market is not fully rebound yet, goal-setting on their part at the beginning of the new year can establish a fairly sturdy base in the long run. However, it is not that easy when it comes to transferring Bitcoin to another person. Unless the individual can comprehend the functionality of Bitcoin or the reasons why they should not sell it, your present will not really be valuable to them. They may use it immediately or not mind at all. A gift is therefore meaningful only when the recipient you are giving it to already knows about Bitcoin, or wants to begin saving Bitcoin someday.

With Bitcoin and cryptocurrency holders, it's safest to use cold wallets like hardware wallets for storage of their cryptocurrency funds.

As same as other wallet types, with hardware wallets, there are close-source hardware wallets and open-source hardware wallets. The recommendation as we all know, is open-source wallets are most recommended as they can be reproducible and community can test and be sure that there is no back doors from hardware wallet companies.

Some persons will be wondering, why a hardware wallet and not bitcoins instead? With all that is happening on the internet, you all will agree with me that a hardware wallet is a necessity for long term hodling. Op knows what he is saying, he already has bitcoins which he has been saving in a way which is not too secure. The gift is indeed worth it, those who are hodling bitcoins in exchanges and hot wallets should consider gifting themselves something like this too to keep  their investments  safe from malwares and phishing attacks. Security should be the top priority.

Christmas is around the corner and I believe that the best gift 🎁 that anyone can gift themselves this season is a crypto hardware wallet.

Why must it be hardare wallet, why not the bitcoin itself, giving someone a hardware wallet as gift when he don't need it or knows it value is not idea enough, besides, some are very poor when it comes to managing things with them and these could be a serious challenge for them to maintain it for safety us without getting damaged or lost.

Maybe you could also take some time to read on this thread below to know more better on something related.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5567378.0
The first part of the post which you omitted specify that those who plan to start buying Bitcoin from next year's January are those he recommend they gift themselves hardware wallet. If you want to gift someone Bitcoin, it doesn't stop you from gifting yourself hardware wallet. It is very important we think about self custody which is the right way to go about storing your coins. So OP is correct about hardware wallet to self being a worthy gift. I'll have to consider buying one for myself because I don't have it for now.

It's actually a good idea to buy a hardware wallet as a gift to yourself. While you're making all of those purchases through DCA. If your plan is to stay long term and holding the bitcoin's that you've bought, it's best to own a hardware wallet. And that amount you're paying for one is an investment, you should consider it like that so that there won't be any feeling of regret upon purchase. That security and peace of mind is nothing compared to the amount you're putting in it. Well done OP.

It's a gift that will keep on giving and ensure that the rest of your funds are safe, so it's a truly good thing to have, instead of just accumulating more without a tool like that.

Others might justify that it's okay not to own a hardware wallet and they can keep their bitcoins on electrum and from a laptop that's disconnected to the internet where that electrum is installed. I think that's just fine but it's still a different setting when you own a hardware wallet. But with those justifications and reasonings, to each their own and whichever is going to work for us better. Because I own a hardware wallet and I've got a peace of mind where my funds are kept.

Because I own a hardware wallet and I've got a peace of mind where my funds are kept.
That peace of mind is relatable. No worries of any form of cyber threats and attacks. I prefer hardware wallets for large and reasonable amount of bitcoin storage and utilize devices disconnected from internet access to store amounts that aren't that large enough to afford buying a hardware wallets, wallets like electrum and blue wallets.

If you have a 100 bucks to spend on bitcoin you can also have another 100 bucks to spend on bitcoin hardware wallet, it's a basic necessity but not everyone like the idea for starters, right it's true that for starters you may not need all the gadgets or hardware to start to keep your bitcoin however, you can be saving the bitcoin if it less then 500$ in an exchange and once it gets to 500 or above you can then maybe take a break or figure out a way to get your hardware wallets and then you can go for a higher one that is more safer than the cheap ones.
