Well what I know is that if someone admits guilt then he is now willing to make amends and regarding to gambling, it now gives room for third party or siblings and family members to look for help for such person. Another suggestion I will like to give if he has a good job is to make a deal with who he is working with, he should discuss his condition with them and iron things out. Tell them to help pay the debt and then he can be working for the rest of the time. If it's about the question if that person can still go back to his former life, of course there are always second chances and everyone can recover for as long as they're willing to do it.
