Recently, I spoke to one of my elder brother and was talking to him about his personal life as usual. A few years ago he was in a good position and was studying in a good university but now his situation is not good. After listening to his details, he talked about gambling. He entered the casino with the help of a friend from his university. Initially, he was able to control himself fairly well, but eventually, he became addicted to the casino. He was a child of an ordinary middle-class family but now his education has ended and he is in a mentally disturbed state.

He is addicted to the casino and has a debt of about $19,000. His family has fallen into a difficult situation, and he has also lost his daily life, becoming like a madman. I don’t really get how a student could accumulate a loan that huge. Wouldn’t the lenders think twice, knowing the person has no solid source of income? And imagine this - after all that, the guy ends up working a job that pays only $230 a month. That’s basically minimum wage. It’s hard to imagine how he could ever pay off that loan, especially since he still has personal expenses coming out of that small salary.

And with the interest and penalties stacking on top of it, I can’t even imagine what the total amount would look like.

You're right, but only if he can straight things up, learn his mistake, and understand what his priorities, like finishing his college or finding a good job so that he can pay all the loans that he had and not bring any shame to his family. But it's going to be a long journey for him. However, this is not the first time that we have heard this kind of story and that someone was able to get back on his fight fighting it out and making his dreams fulfilled in the end. It's the mind shift that he needed to do, he should align everything in a positive way so that he will change his life for the better. If will take maybe months or year, but time could be in his side as he is very young and that everything can work it out for the better. Just be positive that he will be alright and just go with the flow.

I am also curious to know how he managed to accumulate such amount of debts and from where did he get those loans from.

He must come back from those worst situations and realize his dreams again. Maybe that is hard but that is what he must do if he really wants to give up from the bottom. At least, he does that for himself and not for others.

If he realizes he has a second chance, he will not waste it and will try again. No one knows what the future will be but if he can give up immediately and keep trying, who knows he will have a better future. Everyone can solve problems if they want to think.

This is absolutely possible, if only he can realize his mistake and come back to his senses. A failure is someone who has accepted defeat otherwise, how much one fail does not make you a failure, but the inability to rise again and work makes you a failure.I equally had someone very close to me who was an addicted gambler, he even sold properties just to gamble, this life style affected him and even recked him of some of his valuable properties. But by the grace of God, when he came back to his senses and stopped gambling, he was able to recover all that he lost while gambling, though it took him time, but he recovered.

So with proper admonission from parents and good friends, he will definitely recover from addicted gambling and still remain focused towards achieving his life goals and objectives

However, starting from the scratch without anyone to assist you will be very tough and difficult for him because initially, his parents were the ones taking care of him and his education. $19,000 in debt is a large figure for a young person who is still a student. I am also a student at one of the universities where I come from but don't have that amount of money. In the middle of college, I also worked.
Part of my tuition money was helped by my family, I thought of the rest myself.
I am also a gambler but I know that gambling is not a means for me to pay for college.

No matter how great a campaign is created, it will not make gamblers become the gamblers they want if the gamblers themselves cannot control themselves with their gambling patterns.
There is a message that I still remember that quite a few people fail because of gambling because they use gambling as a place to make money. Gambling is just to enjoy luck and skill. If it's not good that day, even if you continue it still won't change for the better. The solution is to go home and rest.

Your elder brother needs to change, and you can be of help. No one can make money from gambling if they are addicted, they will only gamble with more money and lose more money. If he is finding it difficult to stop gambling, you can let his family know about it with his consent and maybe go for rehab.

From the details of your story the victim is still young and that alone should give him hope that he can flip his distorted life to a better one, is not the end of life, all that is required is to be hardworking and resolute and purpose personified for a better life.

What traps is behind is how we continue to live in regret for things we did and did not do. Take that for a mistake of your life and not to dwell on it. Now he is working though a mini job but still can be paying his bad debts gradually from the salary he receives from the job, and get back to school from where he stopped.

This is another case of gambling addiction. It will always happen irrespective of what we do because addiction is like sickness that everyone can not escape no matter what we do. The people that get involved in gambling addiction are not ignorant of the rules and the effect of gambling addiction, they know everything yet still get addicted. I have temporarily assured him that. He will have to struggle a lot in his daily life and focus on how to repay the loan quickly. He is earning some extra money by working extra overtime after doing his proper duty of his job. He wants to return to his normal life and see a smile on his mother's face, this is his goal now. I have asked him to stay away from gambling for now and never indulge in such an addiction. One thing I really like about him is that he wants to see a smile on his mother's face by repaying this loan. For this, he is struggling a lot.

It depends on his current age, and if he's going to see a sponsor that is willing to stand by him to pursue his dream again. He is indebted and he needs to clear those debts so he can focus and have enough money to encourage him not to gamble for money again. Secondly does he still have the passion to chase his dream again, because there have to be a willing mind before dreams can be actualised. Your title speaks different of what your post contails. There has been so many similar stories of young people who got ruin because of gambling. Despite the fact that they know very well how risky gambling is, they still dive into it without proper risk management control. You imagine how he got ruined and now having dept to pay. Its just something many people keeps falling victims of. How would you be so blinded by greed and lose way up to $19k without knowing when to stop? Some people would start blaming the casino for this but honestly many people just don't know when to stop. We are told to gamble responsibly, and when gambling is becoming something that adds no value to your life, you should consider quitting..

Nothing is impossible in this world, everything can be done as long as someone has strong intention to do it. Based on his $19K debt, it would take him at least 7 years to pay it all off (if he only relied on his salary). 7 years is not a short time, but that doesn't mean he can't do it.

I've a distant friend who had about $25K in debt, his salary was only $190, he was in debt in 2023, do you know how he's now? he has paid it all off, OFC he didn't just hope for the salary, he did everything, 1 thing I remember, he informed me about $DOGS airdrop allocation he received, it was about $22K, he was really lucky because of his persistence.

The most important thing is for him to have realized his self (as in identifying his problems) and defeated gambling addiction, if this have  be achieved and don't think starting all over again  to rebuild his dreams or career will ever be a problem to him because what matters is that the root problem has be identified and resolved.

Furthermore, that while it is always important to identify and choose our choice of friends wisely because any wrong choice we make can ruin our entire life, always play safe in all you do not just only in gambling stuff but to every other aspect of life and make sure you aren't a victim of addiction because it is not that easy coming out the same.

Why not? The most important thing is that he started to pay his debts slowly and not gamble so that he can get back from his feet and maybe realized his dreams again. I have been in this situation before and I know it's tough. But you have to believed in yourself that you can make a U-turn and make your lives better for you and for your family.

Hard work pays off in the end, so just start small and then slowly putting all the actions by paying weekly or monthly until you settle the debts and then you can restart your life all over again.
