I am not sure how this is at another countries, but here in Brazil we have a "salary bonus" for all formally employed workers... it is a national law that tells employers to pay an extra salary to all their employees at the end of the year.
So, just having an extra money could be a big reason to gamble more on the weekend, then there are also the vacations that many people take during this period, consequently spend more time at home with nothing to do. The Christmas atmosphere and the end of year festivities also create that "desire" to bet more.

So... if you add all these factors together, I would say yes! Here in Brazil we gamble more at the end of the year.

However, in my case... the style of play changes a bit, because at this time most sports games are in hiatus and I need to diversify... I confess that non-sports games are not something that appeals to me very much.

No I don't,  not because I take gambling too seriously during other times of the year but there are times when you need to take.a break especially during the holidays when you are with your family, I need all i can get to cover lots of expenses, staying away from gambling for a month is not really going to cause any harm, taking a break from gambling is very necessary even if you gamble for fun

I would definitely avoid gambling during the Christmas Holidays so that I could fully enjoy the spirit of it without feeling regretful at the end.

The spirit of Christmas is all about spending the entire week with your family and friends; to give gifts to one another and to feel overall happy about the situation. I don't have a holiday season since I am not on 9 to 5 job but in the general scale, yes the Christmas season is where most of the gambling activities are recorded across the globe. This is a logical thing. On a special day, people spend time with their family and give time to their family or spend time with friends, so no one thinks much about gambling at that time.
