There is a possibility that the dominance of BTC would be threatened but I still doubt if it would take precedence over it.

The beauty of altcoins is that every coin produced introduces a new innovation that improves on the aspect of BTC. For example, some altcoins may introduce a new type of transaction that works entirely outside the blockchain to make it more secure and private, provides a faster transaction speed, or even produce new smart contracts. It really varies on what type of innovation they introduce that will spark the interest of investors.
Altcoins have been most abundant as ever in this market cycle compares to past cycles but even so, they lost their prices and market caps too much and very quickly so that Bitcoin still maintains its high dominance.

The beauty of altcoins is in their white papers, roadmaps and promising game-changing technology and innovation but they mostly fail in developments and adoption. Most of altcoin projects are hyped, pump and dump, scam so they don't contribute too much solid market cap for altcoin market cap in order to take considerable part from Bitcoin and reduce Bitcoin dominance.

Bitcoin dominance in the market will have up and down, peak, sideway and bottom but it will maintain greatest dominance in cryptocurrency market in a long time.

Bitcoin dominance in the market will have up and down, peak, sideway and bottom but it will maintain greatest dominance in cryptocurrency market in a long time.
Even after more than 15 years, Bitcoin still reigns supreme in market dominance. While thousands of altcoins emerge each year, none have truly reached Bitcoin's dominance. One reason is that most altcoin projects are scams disguised as altcoins. Some sell impossible dreams, and others are simply projects to enrich developers. Only a few altcoins have gained significant public trust. Some, like ETH, BNB, ADA, XRP, and SOL, already have ETFs or are part of the foreign exchange reserves of countries or companies. I doubt any altcoin will ever surpass BTC's dominance. Although BTC's current market dominance is around 57%, it seems unlikely that BTC will reach 49% and altcoins 51%, at least in the near future.

Do you think there's possibility Bitcoin's market dominance will decline in the future? I'm not talking about another cryptocurrency taking Bitcoin's market share entirely, but rather reducing its dominance to a point where it's at the minimum (like declining from 50% all the way to 10% for example).
Yes, there will surely come such a time when majority of market share will be taken by other crypto currencies but that's not going to happen anytime soon. I don't think there's going to be any single crypto-currency that would be able to take Bitcoin's market dominance but there's chance that if multiple good alt coins get more liquidity then that might somehow reduce Bitcoin's dominance when it comes to overall market liquidity.

Surely anything can probably happen in the future because anything can be possible but currently we can't says they will have a coin that can dominate then bitcoin for now but he will be difficult because bitcoin is growing everyday and I don't really think bitcoin can make any other crypto overtake am, if you ask me I will definitely tell you no, know coin can dominate bitcoin and bitcoin will always dominate every coin, because I get the believe of bitcoin because is always different from other coin and to invest in it is also a different things, because bitcoin investment is always a long term process but other coin can give you profit in just a small time and you can lose everything in a short term too, but bitcoin will always make you get profit and you can't lose everything in bitcoin investment.

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
No, it could never drop to 10% because that's too low. Because that also mean 90% dominance belongs to alts and now people don't trust bitcoin anymore but there was a time when bitcoin dominance was 100% but with the emergence of new altcoins, that dominance started to decrease because the same pool of investors now began to invest that amount in alts or that same space was not being shared with alts before but then when they came it got occupied.

The same way if these alts keep coming then it is possible due to selling pressure in bitcoin, its dominance can decrease from the current range to even by 10% but to 10% is not possible.

Leading stablecoins may be competitive in the short term, given that many institutional players in the market use them, and governments (particularly the US) have high hopes for them. In the long term, with the right support, coins focused on anonymity and security could compete. Among the popular and well-known ones are Monero and ZEC, which has recently been very successful and is likely to have a say in the future. And when all bitcoins are mined, bitcoin will become even stronger and more valuable than it is now. It will be very difficult to compete with it.

Dear Abiky, even if new altcoins seems "diluite" the value of current bitcoin market, they have no effect at all...
There are (literally) MILLIONS of coins/tokens and any kind of similar digital product that has been launched, at this point bitcoin should be just a tiny fraction of the whole crypto space market cap.

Of course a part of money has been transfered also to these coins but because they can have a "function". Dogecoin and Litecoin have been used for a reason in early times...
However the main reason, about bitcoin, about the value of the integrity can't be "diluited" in any other way.
There are many reasons to be sure of this, at least after many years I would not see reasons to doubt.

Honestly i don't think Bitcoin can stay Top 1 forever....at same time,i feel it's gon be No1 way longer than we expected... somehow,if people were to have more faith in Bitcoin, seeing it as stable and safe...it might just stay Top 1 for a very long time...

Nevertheless..the total number of Bitcoin have ever been produced is something to put into consideration also... research shows me that the total number of Bitcoin that has ever been made is 21 million..and 19.9 has already been mined.....that's limited supply...such can make Bitcoin loose it's position in the crypto market 😔

I believe in the saying "There is no permanent in this world but change", Even the greatest empires crumbles down so I think Bitcoin will lose its dominance in the future,  it may not be in the near future but I think one day the Bitcoin market dominance will be greatly challenge leading to its decline.

Indeed scarcity when there is many demands can boost its dominance, but I believe the scarcity alone can't push the bitcoin market to new heights.

Maybe not forever, but I have the faith it stays like that so long…and it only happens when the entire crypto market is in a critical situation. But I don't think that's going to happen. It was too far…

Yeah, we have several altcoins created and popping up every day, but they are too far to compete with Bitcoin. It has already been proven that BTC is unique, and this is another shitcoin that has no way to replace it.

Why should we ask this when we believe that BTC is the king of crypto?

If we have the faith, doubts should never exist.

Snip

The Bitcoin does have fluctuation but when it happens, it's only by some few changes, it doesn't stay like that. One thing about Bitcoin is that even though everything the market change, Bitcoin will still manage to be among the best performing and nobody can make it under perform. There is something better about Bitcoin that it does get swallow by any alt that want to make attempt to make Bitcoin not useful, the Bitcoin always looks better than any other coin.

Bitcoin has managed to be the best for people, it has been declare dead many times but it find a way to communicate to sellers. It has never in the history of Bitcoin that it goes down and never goes up again. Everything you can think of Bitcoin always comes first before any other Altcoins will come back. This is why some people will rather keep and hold Bitcoin for long term than chase after coin that may never recover from any loss.
Sometimes the flunctuations might go deeper than expected but doesn't stay that way for long. Bitcoin resilience allow it to bounce back as soon as possible. Bitcoin as proven doubters wrong long ago and it has managed to be among the best assets over the years.

When it dips many seem to lose faith in Bitcoin claiming it is dead and cannot survive the fall but numerous times it has proved people wrong.
Bitcoin is volatile and flunctuations are normal so  expect it to move in both directions, it can't always move positively so why are people bothered when there is a dip?

In my opinion, to answer your question, we need to clarify: "When you talk about cryptocurrencies, do you include stablecoins (USDT, USDC, etc.) or not?" 🙋

The US government has abandoned the idea of introducing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Instead, they have decided to create and popularize stablecoins. In fact, in my opinion, there is little difference between CBDCs and stablecoins. CBDCs are issued by central banks or the Federal Reserve. Stablecoins are issued by other centralized financial institutions (which seems a little more democratic, but in my opinion, fundamentally changes nothing).

Stablecoins require reserves in the form of US Treasury bonds, US dollars, or money in deposit accounts. Thus, they are essentially identical to fiat money. They are programmable fiat money with the ability to increase regulation and reduce privacy (even to the point of zero). Overall, this is all very sad.  🤷 Stablecoins are fundamentally different from decentralized cryptocurrencies like Monero, Bitcoin, Litecoin, etc.

Personally, I'm absolutely confident that, over time, the market capitalization of stablecoins will exceed that of Bitcoin. That's my answer to your question. 🙂

market dominance is around 60% right now in late 2025 and people are still waiting for that "altseason" that never quite stays for long, to be honest btc has basically become the digital gold reserve for the whole world while most alts are just tech startups that might not exist in five years

It will change every cycle albeit in smaller percentages each time it happens.. Because the bigger BTC gets, the bigger the push needed to make its cap even bigger / push it into the different direction.

I'm not very biased in terms of viewing the future; bitcoin dominating now does not mean there won't be any altcoins which can take its place in the future. If the developer is good enough to give the community what they will value and cherish, then there will be hope for such and not just for the developers we have out there who are more focused on profit than just solving a problem.

I don't think such case will happen during our lifetime, and more so after that.. All the devs and newly created coins, even having the utility under their belt, still lack what BTC has and keeps to itself.

That would certainly be very difficult. I’m sure the Bitcoin market won’t stay at the top forever—even a company like MicroStrategy still needs to wait for price pullbacks for certain strategies. However, for Bitcoin to experience a truly drastic market crash right now seems very unlikely. At this point, it feels like only those who don’t believe in Bitcoin are the ones missing out on the opportunity.

Altcoin season hasn't happened yet, because all eyes are on Bitcoin right now. Especially with "Wall Street" proclaiming it as "Digital Gold". The hype will persist for a while. Once institutional investors get "bored" of BTC, they will switch to alts. Several spot ETFs tied to major altcoins have been submitted for the SEC's approval.

With renewed interest in altcoins, Bitcoin's market dominance will surely decline. Going down to $10 is a far stretch, but anything's possible. I think 30% market dominance is a more realistic outcome. ETH needs to turn "bullish" again for alts to follow. You can diversify between Bitcoin and top-ranked altcoins in market cap for peace of mind. Who knows what lies ahead in the future?

Every day, we see new altcoins pop up in the market. Some existing altcoins rise in price at a faster pace in Bitcoin, taking a significant portion of its market share. ETH is a good example of this. Despite all of the buzz surrounding altcoins, Bitcoin's market dominance is still high (for obvious reasons). However, some believe that could change in the future as more liquidity enters the crypto market.

Do you think there's possibility Bitcoin's market dominance will decline in the future? I'm not talking about another cryptocurrency taking Bitcoin's market share entirely, but rather reducing its dominance to a point where it's at the minimum (like declining from 50% all the way to 10% for example).

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
honestly i do not think there is any alt coin that can rise to the level of bitcoin in the nearest future, as of this late 2025 bitcoin still holds about 57-59% of the total crypto market cap that around $1.77 trillion out of the $3 trillion plus global market which is very far from the next largest alt (ethereum  which is like between 3-5 times smaller.

it has been like this for years and and the dominance continues to grow as the crypto world grows. even the fact that some alt coin came with some more advance features like smart contract faster transaction, still it doesn't defeat the bitcoin dominance and i don't see that happening in the nearest future.

bitcoin position in the crypto world is unique and its clear  that it is the driver of all other coins so if you still want to make investment in the cryptocurrency then bitcoin is the best option for you
