A bug of temporary ban

Why does a user have 3 different types in the signature space when temporary banned?
1. In DM, the signature is displayed.
2. In post, nothing is displayed.
3. In the profile page, a message with the ban duration is displayed.

Is this an error?

I published the DM since it doesn't contain any sensitive info.

That's a long ish ban - I'm surprised they start at two months.

I think it might be by design that signature appear in DMs and not on posts because you can still block individual users in your DMs anyway. I'm assuming posting bans don't always ban sending messages but I could be wrong on that one.

2. This is the case of banning of signature.
3. Since the ban is personal then a note is pretty normal on the profile page.

But yeah, that's a 3 long month ban, what's the issue of this.

Theymos just needs to have the PM ad space and the post ad space follow the same logic - on 15 year old php code.

No bug I guess ser, but the access.

I think theymos only allows moderators to disable signatures in posts, not in PM's-- only admin/theymos can do that himself.

And it doesn't makes no sense at all to disable the signatures in PM's fur such lighter punishment, when the users only get paid for advertising the business thru displaying signatures in posts not via PM's..

I guess it lets mods and users to keep track of the ban and others knows how long the signature is disabled for, from that account ...  and I think this is the only easy way a user can know when they'll be able to wear their sig back again without asking mods or without creating a post for that reason...

and, of course it's helpful for the managers too, it let them know when they're coming back to the business again.

I also think so, as the subject of this type of punishment is usually based on user's posts in public spaces. PM is a private space where more substantial rules and penalties might apply.

So your concern is displaying the signature in PM when a user gets a temp signature ban. Most probably this isn't a bug at all. The user won't advertise through the signature space, which means the signature won't be visible below his post. That means any manager won't accept that user for any signature campaign. So the goal of the ban does work properly, and there is no chance of evading the ban.

I think Theymos hasn't included in the code regarding PM messages; hence, it's visible to the PM. It doesn't work much; just adding a code line to the existing code is enough. But I believe theymos is aware of it, and it's not a serious issue or bug at all.

Not a bug — it’s just how the forum logic works. DMs show the user’s saved signature, posts hide it during a temp ban, and profiles show the ban message. All three use different rendering rules.

Since it's a temporary ban, I don't think there's a need to express the whole ban features on the user account, while displaying of signature could be allowed only on PM which is private and not openly as to other's views, so I see no reason for a complete ban package when he was only on a light one, the signature exposure was only limited to making post, that of pm wasn't included and that's why this could be different from someone having a permanent ban, just my view.

Nobody actually pays attention to any of those signature spaces except for number 2. Certainly not any prospective customers that the brands running the signature campaigns would care about. So I'd say the signature ban is working as designed.

Note: this is not a temporary ban (in which case the user can't post or PM), it's called a signature ban.

I didn't know this. I guess it's oversight and PMs are forgotten. I also didn't realize signature bans aren't shown under posts, it would be a good deterrent for others to see signature bans out in the wild.
