Visa just put out a survey (Dec. 2) showing that digital currency has basically become a mainstream gift for 2025. About 45% of Gen Z said they’d actually be excited to get crypto for Christmas.

Their parents? Not quite on the same page. Across all age groups, only 28% of people said they’d want crypto as a gift at all.

The survey was done in October by Morning Consult and included 1,000 adults.

Honestly, for me, I think it’s pretty cool that crypto is finally becoming a “normal” holiday gift. For years it felt super niche, and now younger people actually see it as something fun and meaningful to receive. Even if not everyone’s on board yet, the fact that almost half of Gen Z is excited about it shows how much the space has matured. Plus, gifting crypto is way easier (and way more interesting) than another pair of socks.

I’m not surprised Gen Z is leading the charge here. They grew up when almost everything had gone digital so seeing Bitcoin or crypto as a gift feels normal to them. What stands out to me is the gap between generations, 45% vs. 28% is huge. It shows that adoption isn’t just technological it’s psychological.

But either way, the trend is positive. A few years ago, mentioning Bitcoin as a Christmas gift would’ve sounded like a joke. Now it’s getting mainstream media coverage. That alone tells you how far the space has come.

For as long as you're giving it to somebody who's already aware of the dos and don'ts of keeping Bitcoin, it's indeed a good gift. But if you're introducing Bitcoin to a loved one this season by way of a gift, it should come with brief reminders. Otherwise, it might only be lost or get stolen.

Or if you're planning to give away Sats to loved ones who didn't show any interest at all, a nice pair of socks might be better. But if you insist on Bitcoin-themed gifts, a Bitcoin collectible loaded with Sats would be interesting.

This is all about a season of sharing in love and appreciating the gift of whatsoever acheivement made by us at the cause of the year, we can merry in celebration while we also introduced bitcoin to someone, gift them, teach them, engage them and at least help someone have a reason to own a fragments of what bitcoin is, since it's all about the season of giving, changing from the usual fiat currency as gift and using bitcoin to bless others could mean alot to them, who knows such could be the begining of their transformational journeywith Bitcoin from our special gift.

Of course everyone will be glad to be gifted Bitcoin as a Christmas holiday gift knowing how important it is. Years back when Bitcoin was less valuable, no one was moved by it price or even consider it Worthy of receiving as a gift but today it has turned out to be one of the best gift ever to receive. And one of the importance of receiving Bitcoin as gifts is that anyone sending you as gift will definitely send a reasonable amount that will be higher than socks and a Christmas tree that will end on the exmas, but you can receive and hold Bitcoin for a longer time and make profit from it in the nearest future than Christmas trees.

It is the worst idea to give someone "crypto" (altcoins) as a gift. It is going to be a nuisance and could lead to further losses for that person as well. They'll have to first figure out how to use that gift which is hard since altcoin communities is not that good and majority of altcoins don't even have a decent wallet software for them to use. And altcoins are generally useless and will continue to dump over long term.

Bitcoin on the other hand is the gift people should give. Newbies can find all kinds of information and helpful tutorials on the internet and there are lots of easy-to-use while secure wallet softwares out there for them to adopt. And of course the value appreciates over the long term and they can actually use bitcoin as a currency.

I have bought cold storage for my mom in the past, she has always had interest in bitcoin. Now she has an antiqued still in the box Denarium, and a graded satori. Also, I loaded up some ballet bitcoins for her one year too. Great gifts!

A gift is special if it is cherished by the receiver. If there is a relative or friend who desires to own Bitcoin, this idea is wonderful. They will end up appreciating the gifted Bitcoin because they have the desire to own it. It will be better to offer another gift if the person is not interested in Bitcoin and has no knowledge of how to keep it safe. Bitcoin is receiving massive adoption, yet some young people are not interested at all.

The beauty of this gift is that if the receiver keeps Bitcoin for a long time and make a good profit. Another benefit of such a gift is that it could ignite the person's interest in learning more about Bitcoin and accumulating the coin.

Gifting someone bitcoin this Christmas is pretty good because if it is the person's first bitcoin, your name will always be on his lips whenever, he's talking about bitcoin. You know that excitement that you feel for owning your first bitcoin.

However, you don't just gift them bitcoin but also teach them on how to keep the bitcoin safe so that, they can hodli for long. Who knows if your gift will motivate them to start buying bitcoin. If you gift bitcoin to someone that doesn't give a fuck about it, he will end up selling it immediately.

It is never good idea to gift bitcoins. Almost always those coins get tossed away and people regret doing it a few years later. Both parties do. The one who gave the gift regrets it because it is sad for him to see that the receiver of the gift tossed it away, lost his priv keys etc. The receiver also regrets it because he will find out in a few years that he could have been rich if he “hedl” properly.

I say don’t do it. Give them something else. A nice bottle of wine or maybe some other physical gift. Give them something which you won’t regret later. If your friend is interested in bitcoin he can always buy it from an exchange.

I personally talked to some young children about New Year’s gifts, and what I heard was that at least the kids I spoke to no longer want toys under the Christmas tree, they ask for bitcoin. They don’t fully understand what bitcoin is yet, but they know that it’s something good.

Not wrong, Maybe this is good, it could serve as an introduction tool for Generation Z. But this is only 1,000 people and I think it’s not valid. A 45% result also doesn’t really make the market fluctuate if they buy and then give it to someone else. From my experience knowing Bitcoin, the Christmas period is when Bitcoin holders hold onto fiat money to meet Christmas and New Year needs. So the market tends to stagnate or maybe even decline. A few years ago, I once gave a wedding gift, although it was just a voucher that I generated. Because the couple getting married were my friends who taught me about Bitcoin up to this day. Meanwhile, they did not continue in the crypto world. IMO

Crypto is basically money, so who wouldn't want money as a Christmas gift. Receiving money as a gift(it doesn't matter crypto or fiat) is a better option than getting something that you don't need. After the holiday season is over, the shops in the USA are full with people, who want to replace their Christmas gifts. Nobody would want to do such thing with crypto, they will just sell it for fiat and spend the money however they want. I don't receive Christmas gifts ever since I was 5 years old, so I don't expect anyone to send me crypto(or anything else) for Christmas. There are no crypto supporters in my social circle.

Giving Bitcoin as a Christmas gift can be a good idea if the person knows and understands Bitcoin well, but it can be risky if the person only knows about it but doesn't fully understand it. The recipient should understand how it works, know how to manage a wallet, and keep their Bitcoin private keys secure. If the person only knows Bitcoin is valuable, they're likely to sell it without thinking, and that could happen.
It's better to ask first, which I think is better because if the person receives a Christmas gift that meets their expectations, it will be a pleasant gift. If not, it will be a disappointing gift. While Bitcoin is very valuable, owning it requires some basic learning and understanding before proceeding.

Every era has its people, and every person has their time. That's a phrase that describes the changing times. While Christmas gifts given by people before us may have been given according to the times, now that we live in a generation of increasingly advanced technology, giving Bitcoin and crypto Christmas gifts feels more special than any other gift.

I don't think it's possible to expect everyone to agree on this. But as Generation Z, we certainly hope for gifts in the form of Bitcoin because it's more valuable than any other gift. If Bitcoin were the gift, we could use it for whatever we deem worthwhile, rather than being given fiat money in the form of red envelopes.

You can only gift someone Bitcoin if you know that they are into Bitcoin. For example in my family I can only gift two people Bitcoin as Christmas gift.

The others don't know anything about Bitcoin, and even few who knew about it can't handle a Bitcoin wallet successfully, they are the type that will take screenshots of their recovery seed, they lack the knowledge.

In the end, gifting Bitcoin is not a must, just like having to use Bitcoin as payment solutions or accepting in your business, it is a matter of choice and the choice will always be present only for people who seeks for it.

IMO, giving someone Bitcoin as a gift during any celebration is worth it, apart from the gen Z, some other persons don't also know Bitcoin very well so it's important to also encourage anyone you gift Bitcoin to patiently hold it a little longer so that they will appreciate the gift better when they see that the value has gone up in the future. The dea of giving someone Bitcoin as a gift did not start today, even on social media like x, formally called twitter, people talk about sharing Bitcoin as a gift, though some persons would say crypto, they are not specific which coin but preferably Bitcoin is best than any other coins.

Visa just put out a survey (Dec. 2) showing that digital currency has basically become a mainstream gift for 2025. About 45% of Gen Z said they’d actually be excited to get crypto for Christmas.

I do not believe this statement. There are only 1000+ participants in the survey, how could it represent Gen Z?  If the survey is conducted on non-crypto people, I doubt it will even get 10%.  So I believe this is an overstatement.

Anyway, I also think that gifting cryptocurrency is cool.  As an enthusiast, I would feel great if I had to give a gift of cryptocurrency to one of my friends or kin, and they are very fond of receiving it, or they requested cryptocurrency as my gift if I ever wanted to gift them.

About 45% of Gen Z said they’d actually be excited to get crypto for Christmas.
Well, I think for those results to be coherent with reality, the percentage of crypto adopters in the world should be much superior. As we know, only a minor percentage of global population is into crypto industry, so how could 45% of generation z be excited about getting something they aren't even into yet?

It's more like crypto is a trending word these days, so if you ask those youngs if they would like to be gifted with it, they will say they are excited, because it's part of the trend and makes them look smart. Not different from past generations and the previous trends from their youth.
