You got to look for connections or ties between Trump and "them", and how strong the connections are, to understand why that's happening. There are direct and indirect ties, for example, the jailed Bitcoin guy was pardoned mainly because of the community helping Trump win, and the mother/family's interest, nothing seems to connect him directly to Trump. The stronger the connections and less likely the accused will commit serious crimes when pardoned/freed, the more likely they will be pardoned. We should however be careful of bribes or a person offering some kind of rewards in hopes that he get pardoned. The reward could be strong enough to form strong connection and becomes a bad string to move a leader to pardon a criminal. If the accused is not really guilty and yet gives rewards or favor (a deserved one) and gets pardoned, the reward won't be considered an issue especially if not done directly and for the purpose of avoiding justice. But this should be seriously frown at due to the tendency of being abused.
Justice has to be done, leaders are however urged to consider mercy, especially if a criminal is really willing to change and sincerely apologize to victims and judge, you can commute a sentence or grant full pardon. There are cases where accused is innocent, but still "pardoned", what are you pardoning him for if he didn't commit the crime he's accused of? The right thing to do here is to grant the innocent the best possible medium to prove his innocence, especially publicly. This can include granting a fair hearing where it becomes almost impossible to deny him the fair hearing. He logically and morally defends whatever question that's thrown at him. Law is law, it should be good or moral always. What a judge is trying to establish is whether a deed is right or wrong. If right, it can be logically and morally defended.
Notwistanding, public before personal interest has to be taken into consideration. Public interest means whatever decision is taken is right or good for the country.
