I Still Talk About Bitcoin (Even After Getting Blamed for the Crash)

I get why so many Bitcoiners have just shut up about it lately. You bring it up to your brother or your best friend, they get FOMO, throw in way too much money right at the peak, then the market gets absolutely wrecked 70-80 % down, like clockwork, and suddenly you’re the asshole who ruined their life. I’ve had people not talk to me for months after a crash. Christmas dinner gets awkward real quick when your cousin is down six figures and staring at you across the turkey . A lot of us have been there, and now half the community has this unspoken rule: never talk Bitcoin with people you actually care about. Safer that way.
I totally understand it. Hell, I’ve been tempted to zip my lips forever too.
But I still can’t do it. I still bring it up when it feels right. Not in a pushy way, just casually, like Hey, have you ever looked into this Bitcoin thing? And here’s why I haven’t gone quiet like everyone else:
At the end of the day, Bitcoin actually is money, better money than the stuff we’re all using right now. Harder, fairer, and nobody can print more of it when they feel like it. People already spend their whole lives chasing money so they can live a little better. I’m just pointing out there’s a newer, stronger version of it. Feels weird to know that and pretend I don’t.
Keeping quiet because the price might drop feels like knowing about the internet in 1995 and not mentioning it to anyone because yeah but Pets.com could go to zero. Sure, some stocks blew up, but the people who understood the technology early changed their families’ lives forever.
I’m super careful now, though. I don’t hype. I don’t say buy this much or it’s going to the moon. I just share what I’ve learned, tell them why I personally stack every month, and then shrug and say, Do whatever you want, man. Just read up on it if you’re curious. Ball’s in their court. No pressure, no guilt.
If they ape in at the absolute worst time and get rekt short term? That sucks, but that’s literally every market. I just refuse to act like this thing doesn’t exist because it might be inconvenient. If I genuinely believe it’s the best shot most of us have at real financial freedom in our lifetime, staying silent feels wrong.
So yeah, I’ll keep mentioning it when the moment feels natural. Calmly. No cheerleading. Just planting seeds. If they dig in and it changes their life for the better one day, cool. If they ignore it, also cool. If they buy the top and hate me for six months, I’ll survive, I’ve been there before.
Either way, I sleep just fine.

If the other Party you are speaking to does not seem to be receptive to your words at all then it does not make sense to talk to them about it.  This is how I see it.  If your relatives and friends do not seem to care then by bringing the subject up you are going to only annoy them.  A lot of people are very asleep and a lot of people believe they know best.  Let them be in their own mind and world.

Imagine they love Banks and told you every single time about how you should put your Money in the Bank too.  It would be a conversation first but it will become annoying after they tell you this a few times.  If any of them wants to put their Money in Bitcoin then put a lot of accent on telling them this means they may LOSE Money too.

If they put six figures in to Bitcoin and their life and future would change dramatically if they lost it then they are stupid.  They can look as awkward as they want at you, they were the ones to Gamble their future.

This is unless you were the one to convince them to do it.

Unless they ask first, I'll probably share my knowledge about Bitcoin with them, and I'll always emphasize the characteristics of Bitcoin itself, not the profits potential. If the person thinks they can get rich quick by investing in Bitcoin, I'll immediately withdraw and not explain it to them at length, because people like that will only blame you if their investment goes into a losing position.

Definitely when you convince anyone to buy Bitcoin overhypes without their minds being made up on their own with the awareness of the risks involved in the market and one of those psychological sentiments occurs where price falls against their expectations, it is sure that you will bear the consequences because you failed to tell them about the risk odds but rather, you were only focused to tell them that they will be rich in investing on Bitcoin in the quick time.

So when they have anticipated to explore and instead of the price to pump it keep to dump, you that initiated them on the investment will be blamed, no two ways about it.

To be genuine and stay free from those you introduces to Bitcoin investment, do not hype and don't make them promises of short terms.
Let them know about this risks involved and make it clear that Bitcoin investment is only profitable in the long term.
So whoever on the short term goal should be on their own risk.

Nothing wrong with talking about bitcoin, the price crash happens all the time and if people are pointing that one out then maybe you need to talk to other people because they are not interested and they do not have an open mind when it comes to this kind of thing. Every investment in bitcoin that led them to a mistake is always going to be blamed on you and not the natural movement of the market. I have no idea why people still get upset when the price of bitcoin crashes especially when it was peaking at some point, people were already calling the crash even before bitcoin hit it's all time high because that is a natural thing to do given that the market has volatility that cannot be predicted, people will say stuff and now that we are here, suddenly people get mad and shut up about bitcoin or get shunned for talking about bitcoin despite the market crash? That is just plain stupidity in my book to be honest.

Love the advocacy of talking about it no matter what, this is not the first time that bitcoin has been bashed because the market took a nosedive, bitcoin haters have always been slinging shit about bitcoin even when it was still at $1000 but the market has come so far that by now, people should have learned that people will say what they want to say and the market will not be affected and just go to the moon.

Your first mistake is talking about Bitcoin in those contexts. No wonder they blame you.

I'm one of those people who only talks about Bitcoin on this forum. Only a few people in my circle know that I've invested in Bitcoin, only those closest to me. Even then, I don't encourage them to become investors or advertise that Bitcoin is an asset that can make them rich. I let them see the changes in my life. If they become interested, I'll share what I know about Bitcoin and emphasize that there are significant risks behind the desire to invest successfully in Bitcoin.

I have experienced it but with the opposite story, my advice was not taken seriously when telling my brother to invest in bitcoin, now he regrets not following my advice first. Apart from all that I agree that it is better not to talk about Bitcoin in front of those closest to us because I now realize that the fact is bitcoin is not for everyone but bitcoin is for those who need and believe.

I know how it feels, right? We've been there, blamed, mocked and heard a lot of bad things not only about how terrible it went for them but even our personalities and by simply us have received with so many bad words. You can still tell it whenever you feel you want to, we're the same. I'm not closing my lips towards anyone who's interested in asking about it. Well, we all are entitled to our own opinion and decisions to do whatever we like, but I just feel that starting a random conversation about Bitcoin with someone, especially when they're not Bitcoin-inclined_{(if there is a word like that)}, sounds a bit weird. Even for those around me that don't know about Bitcoin, I don't just throw the discussion to their face whenever it's convenient for me. We all should know by now that a lot of people find it more convenient to put blame on those that introduces them to financial related matters, especially when things are not going as discussed or expected.

Me too. I hate it when they put the blame on me when I basically just told them the basics of it and answered their questions.

I always give disclaimer that it's not a financial advice and each decision they do as they invest, they should do it with a firm decision.

I don't see why we shouldn't continue talking about Bitcoin. Take the stock market as an example; there have been many crashes, and people continue to invest. Talking about the technology and usability of Bitcoin is great for promoting the project, just don't say it will be worth a million, that it's the safest investment, that it's guaranteed profit, this is your personal opinion. If you think this way, keep it to yourself, but don't stop talking about the essence of Bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies in general.

To me, it would better not to openly talk about Bitcoin, unless one's asked about it directly or people prove themselves to be genuinely interested in the technology and the deflationary nature of this asset, if someone just wants to make money as quickly as possible, then it is better not to talk about Bitcoin with them or try to convince them of anything.
Actually, there have been people I have told not to invest in Bitcoin because they didn't actually were in for money in the long term, rather they were interested in some kind of trading and speculation in the shirt term. I am not a trader nor have privileged information, so I would not be involved if there is the chance of people I know to lose their capital in the short term because of my advice.

Also, talking about Bitcoin implies a potential security risk if one lives in a dangerous country.

Talk about bitcoin when you see the needs for it, don't make fool of yourself in situations where you're telling others about Bitcoin when they are not convinced of it, not even being easy to convince others or even discuss with them at the bear market, when the market falls like this, you will see many people giving different controversial analysis and attacks on it price, calling all manners of names it is notz all because of the fall.

Just secure that talk that you don't promise anything. Tell things honestly and so these people you talk to won't have high expectations after investing a buck from their savings.

Because that what it seems to them, after investing a dollar, it will become a million overnight. Yes, I am overexaggerating because that's what they really think of investing in Bitcoin.

And that is because who have made profits with bitcoin are overly exagerrating as well when they share their profits.

If you invested way back, it was $300, and talked about it every day with your friends and co-workers, they will be the silent ones now. 

Yeah, sure, the market is volatile, and I always add that up whenever I talk to someone about Bitcoin. Even after the ETF, I still say it's volatile, although it's a much safer investment than it was back in the days when adoption seemed to be impossible.
Never stop. It's a good thing. Share your own experiences and advice, but never make them buy. Let the choice be for them. We only give them the right information.

Learn to say vey less about Bitcoin, let them do the talking and the asking, there are some Bitcoin investors who are asked a single question and they have answered 100s more that's not even part of the original question, learn to say less always, a question for an answer would do fine.

Families consists of different minded people, some will trust their guts instead of yours and while others are too scared of losing their money they will point fingers when things go horribly wrong, since you are part of this family I expect you to have known them very well.

I have had my blames and also my hails among friends and families so I know whom to call if any financial opportunity arises, I don't see any reason to stop talking about Bitcoin but make sure your aren't talking about your own portfolio, even families get jealous most of the time and they will pretend not to.

Don't talk about your balance and answer questions only asked of you, don't reply a question with many answers.

I will always be happy to discuss and discuss it at any time because it is like a pleasure for me. But, there is a but — as long as it was initiated by someone else and not me. That's also part of how I limit it.

When Bitcoin experiences a decline in market price, it is also interesting to discuss the ongoing decline that Bitcoin is not only thought about when the market price experiences a high increase until an ATH is created.
Bitcoin is also not because the price changes make people have to own it. When prices fall, I can explain more easily that it is not fixed or easy to change which requires people to look from the other side but not like the stock market.
