Gambling is a relatively young industry with the modern structure.
Most of the games and not only the plaftorms were completely impossible to have up to few years ago.
There are more people gambling because this is something easy to do for all players. Also funds required are very low (any amount could be gambled from everywhere, literally).

Welp, yeah for sure. I mean Covid brought a whole new scale of stress into this world. You still see people walking around with masks on. Some people are still even afraid to go to a real casino probably! lol. Honestly I gamble to gamble, this life itself is all about risks but I never let making money out of gambling a importance that's why you will never see me using big amount of money to gamble,  I can't use gambling to get rid of my anxiety because once the excitement is over I am back to where it all started.

Gambling should neither be used as a source of entertainment nor as a way out of depression; both scenarios will create more problems than solution to anything. If you gamble as a means of entertainment, in a matter of time you become addicted to what give you joy and that is similar to gambling as an escape of depression. Life has always been stressful. I don't think that life was less stressful 30 years ago. Some people develop some kind of nostalgia about their youth. We often think that "the glory days are gone" and the future is going to be dark and depressing.
Gambling has always been appealing, but what changed throughout the years was the social acceptance and the regulations regarding the gambling industry. I have the feeling that nowadays it is socially acceptable to be a gambler, in comparison to 20-30 years ago. No, what I think is that the gambling business is so big because it is so easily accessible compared to a few decades ago. That is the main factor. In daily life, people have to be under stress, be it at work or in family issues. If someone wants to be free from stress by using gambling for a temporary relief from that stress, it is certainly logical. When someone gambles, he can hide himself from family problems at least for some time. Which may not be possible through any other means.
