My main problem with being too hasty in distributing merits is this practice is literally responsible for the creation of criminal enterprises that currently operate on the forum.

Aside from this, every other account is somebody's alt account (who, most of the time, is not saying much in particular to anybody BTW -- unless they're specifically fishing for merits, of course), and since there's a good chance you wouldn't be responding to a person* conversing in good faith, why bother engage them in the first place. Let alone give them merits.

Here's an idea: instead of buying Merit, write about a topic you're passionate about and know more about than the average reader!

You mean they should actually use their brain instead of ''wonderfull'' AI tools that generate everything in few seconds?

 - copy/pasting translations of online text
 - text spinning

The default trust system.  Look at all the threads asking for DT attention for merit abuse.   Current merit sources are assigned when they should be voted on.  Don't even need a separate merit source system - default trust can handle it.

Ah OK that makes sense. I agree with you, but we have specific instruction from the top not to issue red tags over merits, unless if its an obvious merit sales.

There's a flaw in your reasoning: users need to have earned Merit to be eligible to vote for DT1. If the same system would be used to vote for Merit sources, then only people who earned Merit already can vote for Merit sources. That doesn't sound right.

A much bigger problem is with DT itself: many people include others on their Trust list for the wrong reasons. If that would happen to Merit sources, spammers could get easy access to more Merit to rank up.
The current Merit system isn't perfect, but it did reduce spam from account farms.

If merit buying isn't allowed, the merit requirement for very low ranks should also be removed

merit system is game, i will agree with such principles, because of the numbers of merit sources we have now, still merit is not circulating.

But account selling is also still un stoppable

It's clear that selling of is not prohibited, but people who is buying is facing challenges, i think that rules that stipulate of selling of account need to be revise and be amended...because selling of account as you said is unstoppable.
