If you are into entertainment, once you lose your bet the best thing to do is to accept then move forward but similar to what you said, if you add more money to recover your loses it can be the beginning of becoming addicted, since you are now chasing for your quick recovery of your initial losses a usual reaction when a gambler don't set any limitation or if there's no discipline that they set up to practice, it's no longer entertaining when you keep losing as it a business designed by the house owner to keep you trying your luck and most of the time leads you to lose more and more an endless cycle that brings a gambler into deeper addiction.

Entertainment doesn't necessarily mean it always ends with a positive note, the expereince of high and low is what the fun part in it and it is okay if you don't see it as the kind of entertainment you want, that is why different people enjoy different things just like certain people consider gambling as an entertainment.

You are right, gambling is more exciting when it is profitable and when it is not it can be a bit boring. I'm the type of gambler that gambles for fun but I tend to enjoy it more when I make profit. See it as you wish. Some people see jumping off the bridge with nothing but a rope to save their lives. And they do that just for that dopamine rush. Same as with gambling except the risk is much different. In a casino you will be in financial risk.

The problem is that, not everyone knows exactly when it’s best to stop or walk away, that’s why they keep going on and on until they’re completely drained. Sometimes even folks who initially started off for the fun of it when they eventually encounter a winning streak will suddenly switch their mindset from fun to making more money, this switch changes the mindset and the goal almost immediately and even when it’s time to stop, the urge to continue going would overtake the need to stop.
