Apart from the advices given in order to recognize a fake website, we should also check the source. Because if that's in the first positions in Google, it doesn't apply, but if an Admin of a Telegram channel or in another social network reaches to you and shares a link with you, we sometimes forget to double-check that person's address, that can be identical to the real one, but with a slight difference.

I remember it because a few days ago someone contacted me and thanks that the website wasn't very well designed, because I forgot to check who was sending me the link. Fortunately I also double/triple check everything before connecting wallets or sending transactions anywhere, but for a moment he caught me off guard and managed to pretend to be who he claimed to be.

we need to verify every website before making use of them and you might even use them but when it comes to connecting your wallet you just have to be extra careful, and there is a lot of thing that needs to be taking seriously because how do you even handle losing your funds to some kind of a website how do you even explain that because it can be avoided, and website takes more than we can explain, and majority of this websites can be proper checked and we can actually do better because this is not the first times they have used peoples website to steal peoples funds so we need to be more careful when it comes to access.

from the quality of the website you can tell if they are legit or not, and from there demands you can tell if they are fake or not, and there are a lot of copyright websites out there we just need to be very careful and what i noticed that you don't have direct contact to does website they are always introduced and the moment your wallet is compromised the best thing you can do is not to make use of that wallet and any other thing you are doing any wallet you are holding should not be used for anything aside holding and this is one of the best ways you can play safe. so that you don't have to worry about anything else.

lol i almost fell for a fake uniswap last month stay sharp guys
Good for you, you could have compromise your wallet and lost everything in the future, some people really make mistake not because they want it but by accident, so for them to be able to avoid such things, OP list are one of them to be not to take for granted, sometimes we are in a wrong address, but since we are too confident we did not look properly in the address, and eventually click it, by the time we realize our mistake its already too late and our wallets are drained.

A lot of times what causes this is trying to finish fast or always being in a rush to do something online, some people when they are even sending some Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency to another person they rush a lot they don't calm down and do a proper check on the address, some people click on any site they see without properly going through it to see how real it is. This attitude of always being in a rush has really caused a lot of people to lose there money and there wallet.
And I will keep saying it have a different wallet that you can be using for other things let's your accumulation wallet be separate from your regular wallet to avoid losing more when you make mistake.

Thanks for sharing this secret here OP, I guess it will save many crypto users not to fall victim to those fake website to endanger their wallets. I don't know what some people will gain by hacking some people wallets, because such money you can't use them well since is not what you labour to achieve. Now that you have exposed this behavior of some scammers, if they discover that nobody is falling victim in this community they will start planning other strategy that will make some people not to notice the fake website on time.

We just have to be careful the type of wallet we download or connect to in the internet, because some website owners created some website for scam purpose, which we have to avoid such.

Scamming still actively exist in the crypto market and they've found immeasurable ways how they can lure these investors and traders. I tell you for free, scamming has never been an easy path for most of these traders not when scammers have upgraded and spot fake websites. I'm never going to be satisfied with few steps to spot a website, it doesn't mean you take your time to spot these website rather it means we should be knowledgeable to know the level of fraud these websites have and how they're able to eject in.

A really nice thread btw..basically I don’t link or connect my wallet to any website no matter the case but for people that do it, really needs to be more cautious when doing so..Confirming if it is  the original website should be a priority and to do so you should use your common sense and some of the tips in the OP and the others listed in this thread and I’d like to add some tips also.

•Be very careful if the website redirects you to another website…in most cases scammers do that. Not always but mostly when you click or enter scam website, it redirects you to another webpage or website. Be very cautious about this.

Atimes, scammers just happened to be the most intelligent people among us, they know how newbies think, they know the things you do, they how fast you react and also know what's trending so they can milk the opportunity around it. They know that newbies are desperate and know how fast they react to things that will give them money, these are the things they combine together to create websites and phishing links that can newbies lose all they have.

It's better be inform and know about the latest happening of crypto, some web designers are so professional that when they create a website, ti differentiate between original and fake will be very difficult to spot.

It's not hard to avoid fake websites and links today but that's if you are someone who is just browsing the internet using the right sources compared to someone who is looking for something else. We can't compare a normal internet user who is looking for information to someone who wants to make money.

When the mind is on the money you will easily overlook some traps and you will eventually get caught, airdrop is a good example, you want the free coins and you are going to do alot of stupid things, connecting to random websites to finish some tasks just to get some points increasing. It's better to use metamask for airdrop and the likes of it, but when it comes to your main portfolio it's better to use a open source airgapped wallet, so even if you click the wrong links on the internet it won't affect your hardware wallet, you will still be safe.

I love this breakdown.

One thing I’ll add from personal experience:
SSL + padlock fools a lot of people.

I’ve seen phishing sites with valid certificates issued the same day, so domain age matters more than people think.

Also, checking the exact contract address from an official GitHub or verified X account before interacting has been a life saver.

That doesn't add up either. A smart scammer/hacker knows his victim might try to check domain age(depending on the target ), so they can just buy an existing domain to make it look like it's been existing for a while.

The only state where they might not use that is when they need a brand name or probably if the existing domain closer to what they need to imitate a site or service is quite way to expensive for them to afford. Still, a planned one won't actually just do it anyhow, it has to be perfect to avoid every possibility of a victim suspecting easily.

It's left for the victim to do all their homework.

Good breakdown, a lot of newcomers still think HTTPS means safe which is no longer true, i like the idea of using a burner wallet because even careful people make mistakes, another thing I do is bookmark official sites from the start and never use search again, it sounds basic but it saves you from sponsored scam ads.

Yes, you are right, many people have this idea, but it is basically wrong, now fraudsters also create websites that look completely official. It is very good to use burner wallets, it will keep you alert and protect you from all the bad websites that are there. If official websites can be bookmarked, then there will be a lot less risk here, currently there are many types of advertisements that are sponsored by fraudsters. We have to be careful of all those advertisements so that we do not connect our wallet there, if we connect the wallet, there is a high chance of fraud, so it is important to know all these things.

Being safe in crypto is not only visiting link of website, since now hackers can use smart AI and make fake videos and voice copies that can easily trick even more expert users into trusting scam. Hand checks are very useful, but nowadays step by step safety of having your main savings in not connected offline safe, keeping normal wallet with safe sites, and test wallet with anything new or untested is needed.

To actually protect yourself against unlimited permission scams that can empty your wallet even without your secret words, you must install Web3 Antivirus add on that is copy test that acts as deal tester, which will show final result of your money as you click on confirm.

With all these tools along with regular checks of Revoke.cash to remove old access and simply ignoring the social media alarms that scream hurry, you can make your security automatic guard that protects your money in case of human mistake and smart scams.

This reminds me of when I first bought a Ledger wallet years ago. I had the habit of downloading the Ledger app via a search engine (Baidu). When I opened the app, it asked me to enter a mnemonic phrase. Something felt off, so I double-checked and found that the first result in the search was a fake official website, which was hard to spot just by looking at the URL. After that, I made it a habit to find the official account through X and then use the link from X's website to access the real site.
