Honestly, this seems more like punishment than a solution. Forcing someone to be imprisoned is unlikely to solve this type of problem and may even worsen the situation, creating trauma, resentment, and estrangement from the family. Being forced to stop gambling doesn't mean the person has learned to cope with the problem.

Addiction is something that needs conversation, support, and professional help, not harsh punishment (though that also depends). The most effective approach is usually dialogue, clear boundaries, and, if possible, psychological counseling. Forcing someone in this way can cause far more harm than good.

For anyone to stop gambling addiction there must be a level of willingness and effort to do it, after all that brute force don't be surprised if he doesn't quit gambling or maybe relapsing back into it. for progress to be made it is important to follow a process that involves therapy and ways that can help the psychology of the person being affected instead of putting him under a jail sentence for 2 years
I agree about having the willingness and the need to cooperate. If the gambling addict doesn't cooperate, no one is going to help him.
Even if tough love is applied to that, if they don't have the willingness and they are not cooperating with it.
That's just a useless help that they're doing and just like that dad, he's doing it with force and that could lead to no chance of success.

Indirectly it has to come from ourselves as gamblers if we really want to quit because determination will definitely make this easier. As long as we still have the determination to stop gambling that we do then it is still possible to be forced, different when we do not have the determination to stop and try to be forced by the closest person or family.

Maybe this is effective for a while but not for the long term because usually this only delays it instead of stopping permanently because they still have hopes to play and it could be that at one time they will play and the addiction will get worse because they stopped gambling because of the coercion of the closest person before.

I support your opinion bud, putting someone in jail for 2 year or even for 6 months I personally think will not change the person and stop him from gambling, I've meet people who quit addiction in some habit for a year, two years or more but eventually fell back in to it after some time again.

So there is every possibility that a person who is put in jail for 2 years to help me quit gambling may actually stay there for the 2 years, then come out and surprisenly continue to gamble, and let's not also forget that there are alot of gamblers in prison places as well, prisoners play different games and use anything available for betting, so there is every indication this strategy may not actually be the best solution to helping someone quit gambling.

he said he will use his military influence to get his own son arrested and locked up for at least 2 years if he stays without any means of gambling his brain will adjust by itself.

Do you guys think such method will be effective or cause more harm to the person itself.
6 months to 1 year is enough to treat gambling addict, it must not be by locking such person up but by giving the user a gambling free environment for at least 1 year. If such user could stay without it for such longer period of time and get involved with other activities, the brain will certainly reset to normalcy. And again, the most important, such person should stay far away from his gambling friends during that period of time and even after the time onward.

That would be my advise if i have a son who cant control the behavior, using military force wont solve the problem.

I don’t know if someone has already posted something like this here, but this is based on my personal experience. In my opinion, the only one who can truly help them overcome gambling addiction is themselves. They are fighting their own mindset, because gambling addiction is a mental battle. You start believing that gambling is the way to escape poverty.

Financial help is not really a solution, because instead of using the money to pay bills, there is a high chance it will just be used for gambling again.

It is really funny to think that it is possible to help someone to quit gambling addiction. This is really a funny thing because it won't be possible for someone that is not determined to quit gambling to help them to.  Even if they are kept in an environment where by they are not allowed to gamble for years once they have that access to a casino the possibility of going back to there previous habits is also there.

Many gamblers often say they will quit, but as soon as they have money, they return to betting. Any gambling advice seems unable to make a gambling addict stop, in my opinion, only their own self-awareness can put an end to it. Sometimes a person only realizes their mistakes after experiencing hardship, and then acts more responsibly going forward. I think the best way to shift focus and forget about gambling for a while is by working or keeping busy with other activities.

The motivation towards the change should be of a deep inner motivation of the outcomes to be permanent, despite the continued environmental temptations. I have noted that the easy access to gambling places will be a hard challenge to any person who has not fully decided to quit. Forcing help into someone who does not want to get disappointed is usually the outcome of such a situation. We must appreciate that an increase in behavioural recovery needs the maximum consciousness of the perpetrator.

For anyone to stop gambling addiction there must be a level of willingness and effort to do it, after all that brute force don't be surprised if he doesn't quit gambling or maybe relapsing back into it. for progress to be made it is important to follow a process that involves therapy and ways that can help the psychology of the person being affected instead of putting him under a jail sentence for 2 years
Willingness is the first attempt to make to get rid of gambling addiction.  One who is not willing to start gambling is not even ready to stop gambling and the addiction will be get stronger day by day. Getting rid of addiction may not just happened immediately but so far as you are willing to stop gambling,  with the little struggle you put in to stop it will be a problem to overcome  in a short time. Getting rid over gambling addiction begins with making a decision.

I'm happy that everyone can now see the possibilities of helping someone suffering from addiction to change....even with the fact that I first came up with the idea but everyone ignored.. probably because I'm a newbie😊

But i ain't bothered by that...I'm just happy that everyone can see the possibility... locking up someone suffering from an addiction is never the solution...it will only make things worse with time...that's why it's advised to treat such people with love despite whatever addiction...as it might not necessarily be gambling..but something else
