I am used to seeing that in this section we talk about sources of information such as news in the media or youtubers, but little is said about the books worth reading on probability that could help us better understand the mechanics of gambling and betting.

I don't know if this thread will have a long run, but at least I would like to give it a try. So, what popular books, essays, etc. have you read that you think are worthwhile in order to improve our knowledge on the subject?

My picks would be Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow, Taleb's The Black Swan, and I've started now reading Fooled by Randomness, by Taleb too.

Although these are essays, I think they are quite easy to read.

What about you? Time is scarce and precious, and reading is time consuming, so: Any book to recommend that is worth the effort of reading?

Although I don't have any book recommendations for you as of right now I will surely get back to you if I do find any worthy of quoting. One thing I will say is that I think it could perhaps be valuable for some skill based gambling games such as poker or blackjack but other probability games based on chance or luck entirely wouldn't really have much to offer anyone other than instructions on how the game is played exactly and the rules of the game etc. But I did suggest this a while back of having sort of an encyclopedia for gambling literature which was largely shot down by the community because they didn't quite feel there was much value in it if my memory serves me.

I often read books about structure, understanding the world of gambling, yes the book I read is not the book entitled (The Black Swan & Fast and Slow) but a gambling book written by a local professor, yes even though it is local it is enough to inspire me about understanding gambling.

But the top book for me that I have ever read is the work of Ian Fleming, I like reading stories about James Bond novels, where he defeats big-time gamblers and other books that are interesting to me include the works of Billy Walters, entitled (The Gambler's Secret of a Life at Risk) I have a special reason for liking reading for Billy's work there telling about professional sports bettors, This book amazed and inspired me to be successful in sports betting, yes, gambling books make me feel confident when we do gambling activities.

Honestly, I’m not really into reading books about gambling, especially those about “how to win” or “how to stay in control.” I prefer something more visual, like watching YouTube videos. For me, that’s already enough to understand basic risk management and how things work.

Of course, it’s very tempting to learn how to be profitable in sports betting. I’ve been there, tried that mindset many times.

Moreover, one of the epithets that characterize the modern financially oriented economy is the term "casino economy". I've also come across the term "monetary civilization." To be honest, reading big books about gambling is kind of boring (but gambling is more interesting). Instead of books, I prefer to read short articles on the specific features of specific gambling games. For example, there are such articles on livecasinogames.ru. There are many informative articles on sports betting on the websites of some bookmakers.

Had it been that it was possible that after reading any of those books or essay the gambler can become a professional and his winning remain consistent for him to become successful, then it would have been very comfortable for a lot of gamblers to read so many gambling books that helps sharpen one's gambling knowledge. If you are interested in sports betting, I can recommend sports betting for dummies by Swain and the logic of sports betting by Ed Miller, it can give knowledge of gambling but the possibility of winning is not dependent on it.

I have not read any books about gambling. All I did was read the experiences of different gamblers. I don't really care if they are real or not, as long as it's an inspiring story, and it gives a good lesson to the reader.
Books are good, I am a reader before, but only back whenI was still young. Now that the internet is providing everything, I always just prefer stories with videos, and it's easier that way.

Those books look like a wish to earn, nothing else. Most of the books are about how a person grew balls of steel, placed risky bet or was consistent in his betting behaviour, and by miracle that person has won. Then he describe how he has spend his money. Those books dont teach how to win, how to predict, how to increase win change, they teach money management and share life time stories. No wonder most of books have biography among genres list

I can tell you’re really a gambler and a risk taker. We like shortcuts, that’s just how it is.
Books are mostly theories anyway, there’s no guarantee that if we apply them in real life we’ll actually succeed.

But when we see someone who clearly has experience in gambling and is actually winning, that’s when we’re willing to listen. Especially if they can show proof. Of course, we can’t ignore the importance of being a responsible gambler, but let’s be honest, that part is pretty boring to read in books.

I think we need more of these books, some of them instill in you confidence to try again while the only book I have read from the ones you post here is Fooled by Randomness and this book is used more as a reference to make you smarter on the decisions you make. I think this is a great book for people who need to raise awareness for themselves before losing more money as they will not act as fast as they used to, it will help them be better in their decisions. Now I will go check some reviews for the other two books posted here and if I like the reviews I will definitely pick them up and read them, hoping to find some better resources in gambling management.

People doubt written lessons because results are not guaranteed. Experience feels honest even when it hurts. Listening changes when someone has scars and stories. Proof matters because gambling punishes blind belief. When someone shows survival instead of perfection attention follows. Wins feel louder when paired with visible struggle. That reality builds trust faster than pages ever will.

I never thought of increasing my gambling related knowledge from books with actual information, it sounds good but I never tried it so I might look into the names and might give a try to see if I can really do it.

But I had seen movies and series that is about the maths and counting cards in poker which showed how rare it is for someone to count cards with accuracy and other surface level information, forgot the name of the movie, will edit if I can remember.

American mensa is my fav book. It covers everything related to the gambling even it's also telling us money management, and even mathematical approach that can be used for gambling. It's old but gold.

You guys are being unfair  .. I honestly had no idea there were even books about gambling. I thought this was more about learning through experience, like reading real stories from gamblers here, not studying it like a subject. To be honest, I’m not really into reading books. When I got into gambling, I just learned how to play the game and made a deposit. I never treated it that seriously to the point of reading books about it.

As a literary read, Taleb may be good, but in terms of rational use of time, he is terrible (maybe I’m wrong, this is just my opinion), since he repeats the same idea a hundred times in different ways.
As for what I can recommend, it's probably any beginner-level math textbook (probability theory). It's the foundation on which everything else should be built. The choice is very wide, but purely subjective. I remember starting to read scientific papers on betting, but I couldn’t get through the higher mathematics used there.

From the essay read, it is obvious this book is psychology read rather than a gambling subject, It is good to understand how the brain functions and events that catalyze certain thinking patterns, but still it is not really directly pointing towards gambling.

This is a good read for risk management and refraining from going all in or our gambling actions being catalyzed by success stories without accessing the  the overall risks involved in taking such steps.


Actually, few people see the importance of reading books on gambling since after the long reads, our activities is still decided by luck, safe for those who go for skill based games that can continuously upgrade their skills and understanding on the game until they become a pro. I think books on particular games in gambling would get more attention than random books about general knowledge of gambling.

I have not read a book relating to gambling before, I never felt the need and even if I want to start reading books relating to gambling now, I do not know what information I will be looking for and what aspect of my gambling I hope to improve with those knowledge. Maybe it could be because I see gambling as something for passive income and not as an occupation. But I do know that no knowledge is a waste so I might give these books a shot, maybe it will help with the phycological aspect of gambling.

reading a book about gambling is something that i haven't done because I don't think that it is needful. Even though reading might be helpful you can also learn how to gamble without it. I would also read some of these books but if they are sold at a highly ridiculous amount of money then I would not go for it. there's no need to pay high amounts on something I can learn by myself

In contrast, this makes it an interesting decision that when we gamble and have the opportunity of coming across books in relation to gambling, some will learn something from such if they can take their time to read.

But how interested are gamblers really in reading any books about gambling? I think not many gamblers would be interested in something like that, except for those who are obsessed with gambling or those who actually enjoy reading books on certain topics. 
I have never read gambling-related books; most of the knowledge comes from the stories of those who have actually experienced gambling. They are the friends from my hangout group.

I have not heard of reading for gambling, I mean a literar book reading for gambling, the beat of my experience has been with going to sites to gather statistics and to look at form and other factors we believe will affect the performance of teams and individuals for sport games that requires an individual performance, and for the casino game, we just try to looking back and getting to see the former result and th chances of repetition or something close so we get to have a chance at making predictions that could get us a win. Apart from all of this, I have not gotten to read for gambling but then this is an opportunity I will look at the recommendations I see in this thread.

Never read books about gambling because I used to think it was not important, basically gambling is just playing about luck so there is no need to read any books.

Yeap maybe I was wrong where I underestimated the gambling book that discusses probability even though there are positive values in the book that must be read and known, I might read the book that is shared in the link.

Because what I have read from the book is usually about investment and trading, before that I never thought of a book about gambling.
